Hawke nowadays produces Endurance ED 7x42 Marine monocular with or without an internal superimposed compass with ranging reticle for about half the price of full-size Hawke marine ED binoculars. 7x42 monocular may be a more suitable compact solution for small boats considering that not everybody had large enough eyes to utilize a 7mm exit pupil size in the first place, and even when they were able to utilize it at a young age, they may not be able to expand eyes fully in the dark later in life as aging impairing eye muscle performance. There is also a 7x50 Marine 3 porro prism marine monocular from Opticron which is also an option for size reduction from full-size marine binos.
Hello Jason. I've been in love with your content lately and the depth of your content. Your website is a fountain of optic knowledge and your videos are so upbeat. It's been a huge help to me as I familiarize myself with the world of optics. It's also really cool to see the passion you have for binoculars. I do however have one long-ish question. Below is only context, and my question is at the very end. I'm been looking to get a binocular for the past two weeks with with a $100-250 budget. I've always been an outdoor person and lately I've wanted to step my game up. My hikes are usually through my backwood forest and the usual camping trip, though if I do get a binocular I'd probably use it around my neighborhood since there's a good amount of wildlife just outside my window. Weight is not a concern to me (my set up is already on the heavy side and I don't mind). I was wondering if you still thought the Bresser Pirsch Compact Binoculars (8x34) were a good option at $139.99. They would be this variant from Costco that to my knowledge only has changed the accessories slightly: www.costco.com/bresser-pirsch-compact-binoculars.product.100488043.html I'd be picking this option because it's only a few bucks more than the Savanna WP and it comes with Costco's excellent return policy. Plus, it's still cheaper than the other options (like the Condor 10x42 or the Carson 8x42). Now to my question: Given a $100-250 budget, portability not being a factor, do you still recommend the Bresser compact binoculars (8x34) at $139.99 as a beginners first binocular? Or would you recommend opting for a full size binocular given the smaller capabilities of the 8x34?
I don't know if I should feel special or not being one of three I appreciate your videos and all the time you put in to bring us this information. I will be checking out the other videos you have pointed out to us. I'm set for binoculars for as much as I need them I have two pair or 12x50 old Pentax and the 8x 42 Celestron Ed's. Again thank you for your time and work I appreciate it take care.
Do you have any idea what kind of glass is used in ED binoculars? I understand they claim it’s ED but I haven’t found a single manufacturer that lists the type of glass used!
Hello Jason, your channel is great - I've learned a lot from watching. I'd like to understand why the image in my binoculars looks so "flat". What I mean by this is that depth of field seems oddly compressed, so that objects seem to be closer to each other than they do to the naked eye. Is this a characteristic of all binoculars and what causes it? Maybe you could make a video about this.
Hi Jason, have you ever considered reviewing viking binoculars. I purchased viking peregrine ED 10x42. I really like them. I think a comparison between them and the hawke endurance 10x42 ed would be cool.
HI TB - yes, in fact I have just received a pair of Viking Osprey 8x42's to test a few days ago and will be working on them in the coming weeks - so look out for it.
Hi - thought you many be interested to know that my review of the Viking Osprey 8x42 Binoculars has recently gone live www.bestbinocularsreviews.com/Viking-Osprey-8x42-Binoculars-Review-297.htm
Hi Justino, please accept my apology for the delayed response. Take a look at my guide to long range binoculars, which has a lot of info and options for you to look at: www.bestbinocularsreviews.com/high-powered-long-distance-viewing-binoculars.php
I wonder if you have access to Decathlon shops. They have some interesting Solognac binoculars lineup. They seem inexpensive and good quality but like almost everything from Decathlon, they're made in China. Maybe you could review them if you ever have the chance. It would be interesting to see how they stack up against more established brands.
Hi, thanks for the question - I have an in-depth guide to the ones I feel are best here: www.bestbinocularsreviews.com/compact-binoculars/ also take a look at my awards pages where I have a section on the best compact binoculars: www.bestbinocularsreviews.com/compact-binoculars/best-compact-binoculars-2022.php
Hello, thank you! I've watched many of your videos (because I love optics too) and your opinion means a lot to me, because you know your stuff! I live in Tampa Bay area Florida, and I'm on a tight, tight budget (no more than $250). I've bought used binoculars online before, and with effort and patience and knowledge... it can become a good deal; yet I've pawned away (sold for cheap) some nice glass...that still stings a bit. I won't do that again, because I now want one pair for my area and needs. I'd like to see if you agree with my choice, or can offer any suggestions. I think the BluHorizon by Steiner in 10x26 is my choice. I'll tell you why. 1.) Because you seem to really like these, and that means something! 2.) My location is SUN and WATER and many interesting, beautiful birds (such as the Osprey!) 3.) The binoculars HAVE to easily fit in my pocket, so that I actually have them with me often. 4.) Ten Power because I have a steady hand, and with 8 power, I always want more POWER! 5.) I LOVE that crystal clear glass effect, that has that WoW! factor. I LOVE that "expensive" glass. 6.) Having tried a variety of binoculars in stores, certain popular brands don't impress me much. (Vortex). 7.) I like Nikon, Leupold, Steiner...they have that 'crystal' effect...on me. 8.) Product Warranty and Support needs to be Lifetime and easy. No questions asked policy. Fix it! 9.) Durable and waterproof is important....#8 above is even more important. 10.) Steiner Amazon has this available (7/25/2022) for $215 free shipping. Finally...the famous online auction site with used glass...for about $300 I'll see an older Zeiss or Leica mini-binocular (I learned from you compact is actually a size up, too big for pocket carry usually, or uncomfortable if it can be squeezed into a pocket.) Buying used, is it worth the risk/reward? You gave these an award a few years ago, given what I've just written, any thoughts? -Peace! Thank You
Hi Mad Sam, sorry for the delayed reply - take a look at the BBR Awards for the past few years there are some great options: www.bestbinocularsreviews.com/binocular-awards-2022.php (just remember the 10x42 version will be similar in many ways to the 8x42, so those reviews and awards will apply). I also have a feature search that can help you narrow down some options www.bestbinocularsreviews.com/binoculars-features-search.php
Hey Jason, aren't you worried exposing yourself to the plenty of seriously harmful plasticizers almost all outdoor brands are intentionally contaminzing their gear with? And why hasnt it been discussed on this channel up to now ? As someone who has in-depth information about binoculars you must have come access this topic and surely have a responsibilty towards your viewers imho.
Your binocular information is unparalleled! 😃 Thank you so much!
Hi Loz - you are too kind, but thanks very much! :-)
Thank you for both entertaining and educating at the same time
Hi Max - may thanks for the kind words, and glad I was able to be of help. All the best.

Hi man, which binacular has better image quality? Celestron nature DX ED 10x50 or Nikon moarch 5 or 7 10x40 or Steiner predator 10x42.
I see only a great allrounder or "Bug out Bag" binocular 😊
Hi, yes, you are right, these would be a good choice for an all-round and survival type bino.

Interesting configuration. This or Pentax 7x32 ED AD? Anyone compared these two?
Hi yes, I like the 7x32 configuration and no unfortunately, I have not yet tried the Pentax version, sorry.
