I would add items purchased on vacation. They usually suit the place you're visiting but not real life at home.

So many good things here. I think the more in touch we are with our authentic style plus our realistic lifestyle the more successful we are in avoiding fashion mistakes. Over the years I have learned what looks great on someone else will not look great on me.

Good tips. Re late night Instagram buys...I've stopped taking phone to bed. Leave it on charge out of reach. Read a book. Much better bedtime on several levels!

Strongly disagree about not buying multiples in multiple colors. Even buying theee of the same top in white makes sense when you work a lot of hours and travel.
When a top is basic, fits well, practical to machine wash and will go with every suit, multiples make sense. I may even want to keep a white and two colors packed in a travel bag with a extra pair of trousers and all my toiletries either in my office or in a "ready to go" bag at home. Also good to keep an emergency top that goes with everything in the office to change into if I spill something or just want to freshen up before a meeting.
Multiples purchasing also assures a good fit every time, assures appropriate quality if i am buying on line and saves all kinds of time otherwise spent on searching, transacting, shipping, returning nit to mention all that emotional energy. I also like the idea of wearing one, one in the laundering flow and one on rederve in the closet. I also like to closet whole outfits together so pieces will be available when I pick my outfit for the day based on weather changes.
Shoes are such a time investment in finding size, width, arch support, quality, comfort and appearance that multiples make total sense. Time wasted in shoe returns is higher than tops and bottoms returns because of fit. And searching time for shoes can be much higher because of size availability. Cost per wear goes down when you can wear them often because the fit is right. Basic shoe styles are worth having an extra pair in reserve if you don't have time to polish or repair s hoes before you need them again. Also keeping one pair in the office and a duplicate at home for travel and events saves on having to commute with them. Or depending on circumstances, a duplicate pair in the trunk of the car could be helpful.
The key to all this is making choices that can be worn with most of your wardrobe.
Circumstances and life stage play a big role too. The last two years of my mother's life, I kept a packed overnight bag in the trunk of my car so that i did not have to waste an hour plus driving home and packing, another hour driving back past the office then another hour driving off to a hospital somewhere. I learned real fast when i wasted money buying overnight clothes and toiletries local to the hospital.
And you've probably guessed that I needed to do laundry once every 2 to 3 weeks. Two pairs of black pants would have been grossly inadequate.
I am sure everyone has their own unique set of life circumstances and values. I don't think we can make a "rule" against duplicates when there are so many potential advantages and savings.

I agree with everything you wrote! I am in the same stage of life. Ready-to-go bag packed because it’s either my mom or my dad heading to the hospital and I’ll be going to work after 8 hours in the ER. There is precious time left with my loved ones and I can’t spend it shopping & caring for basics I could have stocked up on in one buying session.

I made a mistake of buying tons of cheap trousers and blazers when I could’ve had that $200 pair that fits and drapes beautifully on my body. I’ve finally invested in more quality pieces and ditching SOME of my cheaper ones. I do have some cheaper pieces that work! It’s amazing how differently a pair of Fashion Nova trousers fit compared to a pair from the Madewell brand. I mean the differences are astonishing. Invest. And I will always have multiple white tees multiple black tees multiple navy tees alllll tees and alllllcolors. Crew and V-neck. Stacks of them will always be clean fresh and available in my collection.

I think wether investing in jewelry or not makes sense, depends a lot on your style.
I have three 18k rings that I wear every day, and I LOVE THEM.
Same goes for earrings, I switch between 2 or 3 pairs, and it is only on rare occasions that I change them.

I live overseas in Kenya and my weakness is late night online shopping - for spendy items that must be shipped from the USA and UK. I do use a customs friendly courier. But the endeavor is otherwise a complete full time job nightmare when it comes to returning said items especially shoes and denim. 🙄 It would be great if you could do an episode on the pitfalls of (long distance) online shopping.

When I make a purchase, I think about how much wear I can get out of it: Can I dress it up? Can I dress it down?
As far as black trousers, I have at least a dozen of them in mostly different styles. I love them. They make getting dressed quickly for work easy and almost mindless, because just about anything will match.
I've never really been a follower in fashion. I'll buy it only if I like it, not because everyone else has it, and especially because everyone else has it. Even pieces that fashion influencers say are out of style, if it fits me well and if I feel beautiful in it, I will still wear it! Be comfortable in your own skin -- and clothes! And just be happy.

I don't agree with only two pairs of black pants needed. There are crops, there are wide leg, narrow leg, drawstring, different fabrications (i.e, wool for winter, cotton and linen for spring and summer), casual, dressy, pants for flats, pants for heels, etc. Right now I have 5 pairs of black pants and they are all different and create different outfits.

I was thinking, what was wrong with the unedited version, and then I realized it didn't have any examples. The video wording was good enough that it didn't actually need any visuals! That said, I will watch again to get the examples. Maybe put the original unedited version back up and re-title this one "with examples" and that one " unedited version without examples" so there is no confusion. You might just get more views that way as well.

I love your striped top but I think the chain and watch are a little too much. The stripes, ring, bangle, earrings, even your tattoo are enough decoration. Why do you even need a watch and such a big one too? Less is more imo
