Same with Andrew Lincoln. His performance as Rick throughout the seasons is just phenomenal. He is very much an underrated actor. Wish he was in more movies instead of the most obscure indie movies.

Up till season 4 Rick tried to hold onto the standards of the old world. It was until season 5 after Rick lost, his home (the prison), his family (Hershel and Judith whom he assumed died to the govenors attack) that he realized that humans are more dangerous than the walkers themselves. This was the season (5) where he became the popular Savage Rick. A Rick that easily resembled Shane, a Rick who was ruthless and meticulous. You see Shane was already that, but was wildly denied because it seemed crazy ATM. Shane was ostracized because of his behaviors that season 5+ Rick has shown. Difference is we've seen the worst of the worst from the lens of Rick so his actions seemed reasonable. Whereas Shane had a good point just that at the time it seemed evil, but in reality it was logical.
Shane is right though. As a cop, he knows what's what and that's just in a normal world. In the zombie apocalypse? Man she's dead and everyone but Carol knew it
