- From his small stature to his awkward, wide stance, Randall McDaniel was a very unorthodox player. Physical at the point of attack and unrelenting on the field, the converted tight end brought an unparalleled level of athleticism to the position, perhaps rivaled only by John Hannah in that regard. He led the Minnesota Vikings of the 1990 to eight playoff appearances and four playoff victories in his tenure, accruing 7 First-Team All-Pro selections, and blocking for one of the most prolific offenses of all time, the 1998 Vikings.

Hey man, this video rules. It might not get a million views because it’s about an OL who played a few decades ago but I just want you to know I really appreciate the effort you put in to make a highlight of a dude who truly deserves one like Randall. Super enjoyable to watch, keep doing you
I met Mr. McDaniel when he came to Minnesota as a rookie and I was a skycap for Northwest Airlines. I was a gym guy, but I had never seen a man that big with a "V" taper like that. It got to be that he was my favorite player to watch when the Vikings were on offense. I got to know him better over the years, and told him how much I enjoyed watching him play and that he was the best linemen that I had ever seen. He was really a humble man. My favorite Viking.

His pregame ritual was to wake up at 4:00
AM and consume grocery bags full of Reece's cups and other candy while drinking an entire pot of coffee until the game started. Right before kickoff he would put in 14 sticks of gum in his mouth and use that as his mouthpiece. He would consume more candy at halftime and throughout the game.
He did that ritual for his entire 14 year career.
Jesus Christ
Amen brotha amen! I felt sorry for them defenders, now I know why illegal defense exist in the NFL I would just line up my whole d on the other side of the center and gone on
He was the best offense lineman.
One of the greats. I grew up watching at a time when linemen like this guy, Larry allen, and will shields played
Met him today while he was golfing. What a funny guy
He was a workhorse, even when the play failed he always did his job and man handled people.
The guy who started the wearing of the visor💪🏾
The best left guard vikings ever had! Skol

Who's the best out of Randall McDaniel Steve Hutchinson Alan Faneca Will Shields Bruce Mathews and Larry Allen
Larry Allen was a different kind of monster man, McDaniel was #2
I say close call between Mcdaniel and Matthees
for pure strength, nobody is really close to larry allen. at any position in nfl history. faneca, though very good, is not at the level of the rest of these elite modern guards. mattews was the most versatile, and most durable. he played all 5 positions on offensive line, and was a starting all pro at center, guard, and tackle. hutchinson is very strong and a great run-blocker. he's half way between faneca and allen. mcdaniel has the best technique of this group, and is the lightest of them at 268, with faneca next smallest at 290-95. will shields is not up to the larry allen strength-beast run-blocking level, but he's at least a smidge better than hutchinson, clearly better than faneca, he never missed a game , and is the best pure right-guard of the superbowl era. larry allen played 4 of the 5 positions, never center. he was all pro at left tackle, and played both guard positions. nobody in the world could run-block like allen, its very strength oriented, shoving people out of the way. of the 5 most highly ranked guards in nfl history, larry allen and mcdaniel were mentioned by you. the other 3 are john hannah, jim parker, and gene upshaw. if youre wondering if they could compete in the modern era, there is only 1 of them in any doubt, and thats upshaw, who played around 260, practically as big as mcdaniel. hannah and parker, and probobly upshaw as well, are far better than faneca, and better than hutchinson. hannah was a ripped 265, stronger than most 300 pounders, and very quick. jim parker weighed 273, was immensely strong, and was the fastest guard of anybody above 250 lbs, and had better technique than even mcdaniel. parker also played a lot of tackle.
Not Hutch
@@carlschinkel lol Hutchinson was good
