Thanks for having an AMAZING channel Brady!
We come in peace ✌️ back where we are from, there's a bastardised relationship 🤭
and I can say the same for YOU! Cheers to a new friendship!
soon 100.000 I see it coming
it's amazing how many videos there are on the internet with a click bait title like how to shoot "Cinematic" footage. Then they ramble on about lenses and cameras and gimbals etc etc etc. When really it's about the appropriate tools for that specific job at the time. I love this because although he uses pretty expensive lights in this tutorial, in truth all you need is a bed sheet and some cheap lights to get a decent rendition of this technique. Couple this with a great acting performance and the right choices in camera movement and set dressing and sound design, and you will get pretty close to "Cinematic".
thank you for your insight !!!
I run across a lot of people who misunderstand cove lighting in that they will light each “segment” of the cove at the same brightness, so this is a perfect explanation.
And the LitePanels Gemini is a BADASS light. I’ll be putting mine to use in a few videos soon.
hey brother!! Its a sick light, can't wait to see what you do with it!
I recently stumbled across your channel and absolutely love your videos. I'm getting into filming as a hobby and you not only have the "look" that I'm trying to achieve, but also break things down so well and clearly. Thank you for creating this content.
Awesome! Thank you! I'm glad I can help!
My constant search for excellent content and I keep coming back to your channel - thanks for making these.
This was very interesting, you’re actually the first video I’ve found on this technique. Actually quite simple to achieve as well when you think about it. Will definitely be utilising this in future shorts!
Oh really ?? I’m flattered! Thank you so much
Wish I had a teacher like you during my school days. Clean , crisp show and tell method works best for me. Thanks mate. Love your classroom.
sorry I am late but better late than never!
Thankyou for sharing all your amazing techniques Brady...
I came after watching your more recent video on bouncing light. I can see you’ve learned a lot. Thanks.
Thank You so so so much Brady For this amazing Video. Every video of your's improves my skills in many different ways especially in lighting.
You're so welcome! that means a lot thank you
Fantastic! I will definitely try to use this in my shorts this year! Thanks a lot!
Heck yeah good luck!
Very good explanation one small tip, choose a lower F-Stop to let more of that light in and blur the background a bit, Deakins likes to keep the clarity on the faces but let the light truly overtake the face. He likes to adjust between f2.8 and 4 but it does vary.
I actually always wait for your content.... thanku soo much ♥️
Makes me so happy thank you
This is definitely helpful, thanks for all the amazing videos!
Glad you like them!
Thanks for the gold information your channel produces Brady.
I am grateful you appreciate it!!
PSA: don't use gaff or duct tape on walls, it'll take off paint. Use paper tape.
hey you're 100% right, just had gaff on hand
I found this out the hard way the other day with gaff tape 😥
NO GAFF ON WALLS. The big boys use ProTape 306P743160MSW Tape. It also goes by ShureTape Photo Black or Permacel Photo Tape. Take it off same day and you can basically guarantee you won't take paint off the wall. Good 'ol Blue Masking Tape works too in a pinch.
@@BradyBessette My gaff tape is special kind... meant to save the tape :-). Y'all should get one of those.
Happy new year Brady!! Best wishes for this 2021. I like this kind of videos, is always great to learn from the masters! :)
More to come! HNY!!
YESSSS super excited for show and tell!!!
Would really love seeing you talk about amateur or semi pro projects and giving feedback, it’s a lot more relatable and relevant
ok ok ok!
Great video! You always make the steps super easy to understand. I would really love to see a lesson on a compact / portable lighting setup for people that have to shoot on the go and can't carry too much gear.
I could attack that!
Great video Brady, great way to start the year. Love cove lighting. For ultimate Deakins lighting I wanted to see one of those bright practical sources off her camera right shoulder to get that Deakins 0101 shadow highlight pattern.
thank you so much for this!!
LOVE THIS SETUP!
Amazing tutorial. As usual.
You, Rob Ellis, and wandering DP are CZcams goats when it comes to this stuff. Thank you

Epic light brady 💪🏻💪🏻💥💥
funny funny!! nowhere close!
The way you explained fanstatic
Thank you!!
Hi Brady, thanks for a great walkthrough of cove lighting. Here's a newbie question: Would this scene be lit sufficiently, even when shooting with a Sony A7iii in Slog2? Or should the light panels be cranked up?
So my answer to your Instagram story was correct, that was indeed a huge af cove lighting😏
Ahahah yes!!!
Great content man, keep it up!
Thanks, you too!
Show and tell 🙌🏻
You got it!
Sir Roger Alexander Deakins is a legend, great tutorial!
I agree! Thank you!
Hey man, great video! I have a suggestion for a video. Could you do a video about different type of lighting to invest in when on a budget. If you did this it would, personally, be the icing on the cake. Such an awesome channel!!!
I think I could do that!!
I think show and tell would be great. Critiquing each others work is one of the best ways to improve.
you got it!
Awesome brother
Didn’t know this lighting technique was called that way... so learned something new, thanks!
Happy to help!
thank you so much
A channel called Epic Light Media - which I am not subscribed to, sent me here.

almost there and it's almost out!
I was wondering when you would talk about cove lighting 💪🏽, great vid Brady
Today’s the day!
@@BradyBessette 😎 💪🏽
it's beautiful! thanks! Brady, may I ask a question, how can we achieve Cove light effects with cheap photography light bulb? coz this kind of light source doesn't really have that brightness like LED panel
Very good explanation as always c:
Glad you think so!
Thanks!!!
Awesome video!
Thanks for the visit
Well done 🤟
thank you!
This one was so interesting! this is my new favorite lighting trick! great job babe!! ❤️
Thank you hunni !

Thank you!!
I'm late but show and tell sounds fun man
Still I have to do it!!
Let's take a moment to appreciate all the girlfriends/boyfriends who patiently go through our filmmaking experiments! What would we do without you? 😆Nice video Brady. Keep it up!
I couldn't agree more!! thank you
Hahaha 6:12 Brady Bessette breaking character for a short sec. Awesome Video dude!
I am human!!
Show n tell yes!
you got it!
This Video was awesome, it would be awesome if you can go over camera exposure setting for when you are lighting your subject and making sure your final footage is not under or over exposed. How would you check for that in camera before realizing your lighting setup was shot too soft where the footage is overall too dark and grainy or shot too hot. I think that would be a good tip. Hopefully I didnt over look it on your channel
I often use false color when exposing!
Flexing the creative muscle unlike Epic Light Media... although they don't want subscribers they turn us on to great channels like yours, Brady.
why can't we share the love!
Yeah I would only suggest using fresnels or spot lights instead for sheer output. Deakins himself would use cheap open face tungstens when bouncing simply because they had more output which is always the main "issue" when using bounced sources, you lose a lot softening the light so you need more output.
Fresnels or par lights for bouncing and soft panels or kinos (horizontal) are better for diffusing.
Great my guy
thank you so much!
Proud student from Kenya, marking the register
hello and welcome!!
A good example of the cove light setup but one thing I would like to mention is moonlight is naturally a hard source of light (and not a soft diffused source as you mentioned here). It's a common misconception that moonlight is a soft source but it's not. Since moonlight is essentially sunlight reflected from the surface of the moon, the light travels farther than direct sunlight hitting the earth surface and is naturally a hard source of light.
Nothing wrong with using a diffused source of ambient light in the background here though.
Well I do appreciate your CC, thank you!
This -- more vids like this. But most ppl dont have the 1x1 LED. Would love to see more of what you can do with garbage lights - neewar, godox etc.
You rock dude
thank you Luke!
Nice video 📹👍👌
@Brady Bessette Great video!! I have a question; what is the application, that you're using, to create a lighting diagram for the film set? Is it available on MacBook?
also lol at me stirring brown sugar for 20 mins hahaha
It was so tasty
Dude are you kidding me!?!?! 56k! Insane. 100k incoming 🚀
duuuuuude. eventually !!! catch up to me hop on the gain train north to Gainesville!
