- Recordings taken place at night at Station Square - Mount Washington Tunnel portal approach and others the next day in the downtown subway stations; along the Beechview Line corridor (Red Line), and the Overbrook Line corridor (Blue Line) -- both in the South Hills of Pittsburgh.
BONUS VIDEO: I drove my truck along the defunct Allentown Line (Brown Line) approach between South Hills Junction and Station Square. This corridor has been closed to revenue service since March 2011 but is used as a temporary bypass during any scheduled or unscheduled maintenance done in the Mount Washington Tunnel. This section weaves along the hillside along Arlington and Warrington Avenues through the neighborhood of Allentown. The line merges with other lines at the Panhandle Bridge approach to cross the Monongahela River into downtown. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
On August 5, 2018 a Norfolk Southern freight train double-stacked with containers derailed on a hillside above and adjacent to Station Square. Hundreds of tons of containers, one of them loaded with Listerine Fresh Mint mouthwash, rolled down the hill and crashed into the Light Rail line just seconds after a Downtown-bound LRV departed from the area. It is interesting that the defunct line through Allentown was used for several days as a detour during the rebuilding of the damaged tracks. So the end of your video has the route taken to bypass the location at the beginning of your video.
joe stewart: It's. good they kept these unused tracks for emergency re-routings. The tracks could one day again be re-activated for future service. Oftentimes trackage removal turns out to be a big mistake.
