Can you name the PCC Streetcar routes in Pittsburgh. Amateur footage from Pittsburgh in 1961. So much of the found film we come across from Pittsburgh have some trolley content. In fact, we would venture to say that streetcar enthusiasts have done more to document the city during this time than anyone. This is PART 1 of streetcar routes, more to follow throughout the remainder of 2023.

I've never been in Pittsburgh but if that past fascinates some of you who grew up in that city but never saw one, i can identify. We had that streetcar system too in LA til the 60's. The red car and the yellow car.
I am not from Pittsburgh, but do love love streetcars and this clip is great!!!
Thank you, make sure to check out ALL the streetcar videos on this channel.
Pittsburgh- that's insane . till next time- 🎥
Nice!
Pittsburgh's trolley system was being dismantled from the late 1950s to the mid 1960s. This is why there is so much footage from that time, People were documenting them before they were gone.
You have to remember the history. None of the privately owned public transportation companies in Pittsburgh ever made money. The company that ran these streetcars, Pittsburgh Railways Company, went bankrupt and the county government decided that the taxpayers would support the public transit system. The Port Authority was created, and gradually replaced the streetcars with buses that allowed more flexibility.
It also killed at least one urban legend. The 56C streetcars ran through several heavily wooded areas between Lincoln Place and McKeesport. Legend had it that rogue Indians periodically shot arrows at the streetcars so if you didn't want to get an arrow you didn't sit by the windows.
I love the soundtrack! Great! PWG
Nice video except for the background music. I especially liked the light blue trolley that was seen briefly. It was a nice change.
1:38 one can see the WTAE tower looking as I remember it. It looked that way into the 1970s.
I was thinking that looked like the Ardmore Blvd/Parkway interchange. That median still exists today, but has trees instead of trolleys.
That's exactly it! 😊@@thebestbaseballguy
Wow what software is used for this? Beautiful restore!
Gee, just look at how filthy the air is NOT!
Looks like it take them awhile to figure out buses were the way to go.
