Risespray 35mm f1.6 lens review for Fujifilm X Mount

- I bought a cheap Risespray 35mm 1.6 lens to use on my Fujifilm bodies.
I could coudn't find any reviews online about this lens, so had to make my own!
The lens cost me a low A$50 and it's a lot of fun.
All manual controls, clickless aperture from f1.6 to f16, a quarter turn focus throw, metal construction and 8 aperture blades.
The image quality is good in the centre, and a hot mess at the edges.
A no-go for paid work, but a lot of fun for your own images.
I have no affiliate links or sponsors, and the gear I use is paid for in full by myself.

Agree, a very fun lens! I will bring it on vacay just for the heck of it
Looks like a good deal if you shot square format. Issues get cropped out, but you still get to have bokeh with it wide open. I'd add an extension tube for closeup on top of square format. I don't see you looking for bokeh balls though.
Thank you for the review. It is indeed fun to use this lens. I bought it in China for 27 Euros and love the soft somewhat old fashioned feel of the photos.
From portraits of my animals, flowers to sunsets. Particularly the monochromes. Definitely worth the money to play with it!
Yes, it's cheap enough to have fun with
I bought one of these for my Sony NEX-5, I use it almost exclusively for video. It is a very nice lens for the money. I do wish the focus ring was a bit longer throw though and the minimum focus distance was a bit shorter for close ups.
i know this is off topic mr greg, but i really like your red background tone. and im not fan of the red by the way.
in any case thanks for the review seems to be very good for the price doesnt hurt to have it around.
Who can tell. But I doubt TT or 7 Artisans will be very bothered at the moment.
Fantastic lens for vlogging and streaming on a budget, though, especially with cheap-as-chips cameras like the GH2.
Think I'll get this and 'go for a walk and have some fun'. Thanks😊
Looks like a neat little lens. Cheap and cheerful, I don't know if I've got a massive meed for it though.. Im pretty happy with my fujifilm 35mm f2, a beautiful little lens!
you saved me 50$ thanks mate
yeah me to ! Thx
I’m wondering if you realize the edges of a flat surface are further away from the lens than the center. That has impact at f/1.6.
Of course that matters more the closer you focus.
Another issue is that usually, the lenses themselves don't have a flat field of focus.
So the centre tends to be sharpest with any lens, and a manual lens like this doesn't have any optical correction for this, nor correction-profiles that can be applied in-camera or in post production.
Hi Greg, I just watched this video than jumped straight on to eBay. There are five listings ranging in price from AUD177 to AUD186. Where did you get yours for AUD50? I would buy one for $50, but not $177.
I got mine through Aliexpress. They come with various mounts.. Sony, FX etc alitools.io/en/showcase/risespray-mini-35mm-f1-6-camera-lens-aps-c-manual-fixed-lens-for-sony-e-mount-camera-hot-sale-4001224145079
It's a bit like those Lomography lenses you can buy but at a fraction of their costs... Get similar results for less.
It's prewtty much a CCTV lens that covers an APSC sensor
That's a tiny lens... But I'll stay with my 7Artisans 35mm f/0.95. :-)
Nice one
Blimey there’s more ads on your videos now than you get on a Super Bowl match 🤦♂️
If only they paid me that much....
