- Hey! I'm Lenny & I own 8 dogs... 6 Mini Dachshunds & 2 Mini Pinschers.
In this video I'm chatting about learning two commands which will help you be able to go to public places with you miniature dachshund such as a pub or cafe.
Some Extra Notes:
1. Take your time between each stage. Don't rush to the pub!
2. Change treats often so they don't become low value to them
3. This is just my way of doing things! There's so many training tips out there. Do your own research and make your own decisions.
Thanks so much for watching. And if you don't mind subscribing and taking a minute to LIKE this video. We'd appreciate it!

Always grateful to have you here!
love this lady and her pooches
My doxie had surgery and will need socialising again after he gets his strength and fitness back following IVDD. Nemo is such a handsome lad.. lovely video thank you. I will try this at home. X
Thanks so much for sharing! 😊
Love this! Going to try this on my 6 month old dachshund puppy
Great video! We will be working on this. Our 8 month old has been with us a month and we had thought he was reactive but the article you linked on fear stages is really helpful and reassuring!
I just love your chanel, thanks for your experience and knowledge I think what you doing is amazing
Hi Lenny, you have so much practical advices
Thank you
Dunja Schipperus Thanks Dunja x
Thank you! This video couldn’t have come at a better time for us. Took my 4 month puppy to a cafe and he barked a lot and the experience ended up feeling stressful. Will give this a go 🙂
Honestly we were in the same position with Nemo. He was fab before lockdown and then we took him out and all hell broke loose. So we’ve gone right back to basics with this and already seeing improvements. No more screaming like a absolutely nutcase the second we leave the house and see a stranger person or dog 🤣 we are still in training with this but we actually have been to a pub three times and managed it 🙌🏻 a few little barks when I’ve not spotted something soon enough. But so grateful he can at least sit and not be so alert and worried and I can eat // drink. X
Same here.
Thank you Lenny. Romeo is only 4 weeks old and not with me yet. I am loving your approach of training and your delivery style. I have so much to learn so I will keep watching and re watching....... I am so excited
Thank you...My 8 month old dachshund has been so stressed when taking her to meet friends in cafés or pubs
Nemo’s teeth are so clean! What do you use?
Can you make a video on what human foods dachshunds can eat? I just got mine 2 weeks ago and she’s finally 9 weeks and still figuring out what she likes! Thank you 🐾❤️
Thanks- great video! One thing i didn’t really understand was why you need the mat for ‚settle‘ and not just the command? Thanks!
Good question. The mat is an association place so after a while you don’t have to say anything when they’re put on the mat they associate settle. Additionally if you need them to get away from something it becomes a target point so settle means go to your mat. So it works both ways. :)
yea this will definetly help with my one and a half year old dachshund lucy shes very loud and barks at litterally nothing the second she goes out the door and she continues to bark repeatedly even when shes told to be quiet until she is brought back inside even the breeder we got her from says her mother barks at ant farts from a mile away so pretty much nothing
Hi Lenny, does this technique work with a 6 year old min pin? Olive is very reactive to everything!. Many thanks
Absolutely! It works the same for all dogs all ages if done slowly and consistently :) xx
Hi Lenny, we’re getting a new dachshund pup next month (already had one for 12 years before). What do you think should be the first things to teach/train them?
Good question! I think the basic commands are great for immediate praise and bonding. Sit, stay, wait, watch. And then you can increase the use of these so using wait to leave the room for a second and come back and using watch to gain attention on nerve wrecking situations. All those commands have multi use and can be as simple or as advanced as you like so come in super handy :) x
My dog is super, super reactive to everything. I'm going to try this. Just hope it's not too late as she is 4 now. What treats do you suggest?
Anything super high value. Chicken, cheese, soft cheese, ham etc x
Hi Lenny! Thanks for the video. Would you say the watch command is the same as look at me? Should I stick with look at me?
Yes it’s the same so basically if they make eye contact they get a treat :) x
@@lennysixdachshunds1069 thanks so much!! Really struggling with barking with my 6 month old doxie, hoping these methods will help ☺️ x
Best of luck!! X
Have you got the link about phantom pregnancy, I couldn’t find it xx
I don't have a backyard area... there is an empty parking lot a few buildings down from my apartment... would it be a good idea to try "settle" there?
What age do u start do sit/lie down and this kind of training? How do you establish what is high value etc?
Hi Jack,
I start this from a few days in once they’ve got over the initial settling :)
And you’ll know which is highest value by how they react to them.
Some dogs are super excited by toys whilst others are not. X
What long lasting treats do your daxies like? Everything I give Buster disappears in a matter of seconds
Hey Sam! Rabbit ears, Paddywack, Chicken Legs, Duck Necks, Yak are the ones that come to mind!
Mine hides treats?
I’m planning on getting a dachshund which do you recommend more a male or female? I hear that males are more cuddly
I think it’s definitely personal preference there are positives and negatives to both.
Hi Lenny can you tell me how I tell if a dachshund is a long haired or smooth from about 2 weeks of age .
Also if one has his tongue out slightly is this a worry ?
Hey! Tongue out slightly doesn’t sound not right at 2 weeks and you can tell by brushing your finger against the hair grain. Longs have much longer hair by 2 weeks if you do this. Was this a cross coat breeding? X
Hi! My dog just can’t settle, he is constantly looking around for noises or staring at me for treats. How do I make him relax and just lay around? Thank you!
Try doing some mind games and training first and then when he is settled sit by him and throw treats down but only when he doesn’t look at you x
Hi, how do you do this if your dog is not interested in treats?
Hi Sharon, Have you tried a variety of rewards to see if anything interests them? For example cheese or squirty tube cheese? Usually every dog has something completely irresistible to them. Alternatively are they interested in a particular toy? X
@@lennysixdachshunds1069 Hi yes I have tried a whole manner of treats and he is just not food orientated. His favourite toy is anything that squeaks! (Not very appropriate for a pub or cafe) 😊
You can however use squeaky toy for all the other stages of this and then at the pub / cafe use a normal toy and have the squeaky toy on hand for ‘watch’ if needing to distract xx
@@lennysixdachshunds1069 Unfortunately he aassociates his squeaky toys with play time so I dont think they will be any good to help him settle.
Got my pup yesterday and I'll tell you she is crazy . I didn't sleep this night cuz she was screaming now i sleep with her on balcony cuz she wont let anyone be without her (balcony is closed). She sleeps all day and goes crazy in the night . Do you have any tips?
Where is she sleeping? When you say ‘screaming’ are you attempting to leave her from day one? X
@@lennysixdachshunds1069 she is sleeping in her bed with stuffed toys in other room its perfect temperature here and she has water , blanket and pee pad. She is okay when she falls a sleep but then like every hour she wakes up and starts crying until we come and then she goes to her bed on her own and we pet her until she falls a sleep again and it happens every one or two hours
@@lennysixdachshunds1069 yes we left her every night in her bed after she fell asleep
Have you watched my separation anxiety or crate training video? That’ll give you the answers you need. How terrifying it is for a baby to leave her mum then be put in a room alone. They don’t care about temperature or water etc. They care about bonding and being safe xx
@@lennysixdachshunds1069 okay I will watch the video , thank you a lot😌💓
How can I reach you on Instagram - can't find you? Thanks
@nemoandcrew :)
Fantastic vid. My boy is reactive. So this is very useful:) thanks so much xxx
Thanks for watching as always x
