Elena X Elijah. I feel like Elena started to break through Elijah’s guard while Elijah helped Elena find that middle ground she was always struggling with between Stefan & Damon. I also don’t believe Elijah sees Elena’s face so much as her soul when he looks at her (something neither Stefan nor Damon really accomplished), so there’s not as much of that do-over/trauma healing toxic awkwardness as there is with him & Katherine. Elena outgrowing both the Salvatore’s and into Elijah would have been amazing to watch; I feel that both Stefan & Damon were too immature in general so had a tendency to hold her back. (Klaus said it best in S3 TVD; the worst thing for Elena was those 2 and their fighting over her.) Plus, Elena outgrowing Damon would have been a brilliant segue to Bamon. I’ll always appreciate & respect Delena as cannon, but Elejah (much like Klaroline (even with their faults)) is top tier MF/TO crossover mains pair up. Elijah just brings something out in Elena that Damon & Stefan don’t, something that feels so essential to who Elena is & because those boys don’t see it they tarnished it (heck, destroyed it even). Maybe it’s just that I see them as two sides of the same coin, or Elijah as the grown up & perfectly balanced for Elena combination of Stefan & Damon with something that is uniquely Elijah alternative (for lack of a better word). Maybe it’s because I would have loved Elijah to have the chance to come full circle & find a hea with a Petrova that would likely keep him grounded in regards to Klaus & being his own worst enemy. Maybe, it’s because he’s the only one who actually puts Elena first by walking away, who doesn’t strip her of her personhood or agency once he actually knows her so I feel like he’s the only one who truly deserves her to-a-fault-level loyalty & forgiveness. Just, all-in-all, they wasted the potential with the Elena & Elijah duo even if they’d never been a romantic pairing there was potential there for an amazing duo, independent character growth, and all round story development.

It’s hard to pick just one because Kat Graham had chemistry with almost every actor on TVD, but I always liked Bonnie and Stefan (probably why I hated Caroline and Stefan). When Bonnie and Damon became friends, it was kinda perfect because it meant that if Stefan and Bonnie ever got together, Damon would never try to sabotage the relationship - because of how he goes after everyone Stefan is close to when he gets mad (RIP Lexi). But even if he did, Bonnie is the one person who’s able to stop him. It’s tragic that Stefan was responsible for killing Enzo, but it’s also poetic because Enzo ends up comparing himself to Stefan, and that’s who he was filling in for from his first appearance, since it should’ve been Stefan, not Enzo
bonnie and kai (toxic ik but the chemistry they had, we just CAN'T ignore that). stefan will forever be elena's best boyfriend. i actually don't ship elena and elijah cuz elijah just felt too old for elena and i'm not talking about the age here cuz then everyone is too old for everyone. i mean elijah just gave very old soul vibes and i think elijah and elena would've never vibed. i love steroline as a friendship, caroline was one of the few people that brought out stefan's fun side after lexi's death. klaroline is the ultimate ship for me overall (like not just the tvdu). the insane chemistry, they were literally fire on fire. and when u think about it they actually did have a lot in common, growing up both felt like they weren't loved by the people around them, both had fathers who tortured them for something that was out of their control, both of them were neurotic control freaks, they both loved to gossip and loved dresses and jewelry and just so many other tiny things. also, in a world of vampires and witches and werewolves and klaus being the 'big bad' their convos were so normal and intimate and sweet. so yea i love them u get the idea.

I don't believe kai having a redemption arc would ruin him alot of credit to his character is thanks to Chris woods acting kai would have been awesome still regardless if he was a anti hero or not he would still be loveable and funny as he ever was they just never wanted to do anything with him and wasted his potential him and bonnie dynamic was awesome if they was enemies or lovers them taking that away is what started to ruin his character tbh
