The Farlands But in ROBLOX

- The Farlands was a notorious terrain generation bug in Minecraft that created huge walls of terrain with strange shapes when you got really far away from the origin of the game. Well, there's also technically a Farlands in Roblox, where you can get so far away from the origin, things begin to distort!

Roblox’s engine is terrible at this. Making massive maps is absolutely hell and you have to scale everything down. They need to upgrade their game engine
@@RyanZ225_PC Yeah, for some reason in minecraft you can go much further out than 20 million studs, you can go up to 30 million+ blocks, and 1 stud is 0.2 blocks! Even though minecraft and roblox are both 32/64 bit. Idk why roblox has this issue worse for some reason.
there’s actually a unique name for it, and when I started to learn coding, the name made a lot more sense to me. it’s been named “The Nil Zone” by other Roblox players.
yeah i learnt that name without coding but its cool it has a name
I thought it was the nul zone
not to be that annoying guy but it’s “the null zone”
Its the null zone not nil zone
@@yoimbeamedthey mean the same thing. Null means nothing and Nil means nothing
there is actually multiple Nil Zones, one of them is where you go so high up in the roblox game that everything becomes flat, how to get there I have no idea, a hacker touched me after going super fast and I just became a pancake, funniest thing to happen to me in a while.
same happen to me but i got straigth up CRUSHED by a downslam in the strongest battle grounds
Play plane crazy and build a rocket and you can go to the Null Zones easy. Or play any flying game really
Actually it's pretty easy but usually it's just lagging while your character's Y axis changes and it gets confused whether your y position is decreasong, increasing, or is still.
@@daftcheese3329 just use hundreds of helium blocks
There is this game on roblox that's called build a boat for treasure and if you get items that are called thrusters (about 20 should do) can launch you so fast and so high every thing gets super destorited and you slowly squish into a atom.
Fun fact: If you go even further out, and I mean wayyyyy further out, the game will eventually fully break down to just black. No movement, no visual, nothing. You can achieve this by leaving the the actual confines of the roblox workspace (which is very hard to do). Sometimes you can glitch a part accidentally in roblox studio seemingly out of existence but when you teleport to it its in a black void which means it literally LEFT roblox itself!
edit: Just so you guys know you can get into the same limbo state by deleting yourself from the game while you are playing it
Also when this event happens an explosion sound happens from the rocket launcher, like the delete tool.
Spooki
The part exited to menu
That happened to me in a game i just watched how i flinged away and eventually my screen turned black
you know this sometimes just happens to me randomly in roblox studio, i move a part and it just goes ..somewhere.. i press F to go to the part and it is all just black
The reason this happens is because floating point (decimal) numbers are limited and are more compact around 0 (more decimals), and less compact the further out you go, eventually it starts skipping whole numbers so that's why your movement on the X axis stops.

Floating point numbers are made of two parts:
- 1-bit Sign (1 is minus, 0 is plus, marked as 's').
- 8-bit Exponent (marked as 'n').
- 23-bit Mantissa (marked as 'k').
When we convert those integers to decimal, the algebraic operation looks like this:
(2(s - ½) (k * 2 ^ (n - 127))
When you're far away from 5 million studs, the float looks like this:
0 10010101 00110001001011010000000
In the algebraic operation:
(2(s - ½) = 1) (2 ^ (149 - 127 = 22) × 1,611,392)
Where is the problem? - you may ask.
In the mantissa's precision. When we increment the mantissa - make it 1,611,393 - and do the operation, it results in the value being 5,000,000.5, so the precision is half a stud. When we increase the exponent instead, it becomes 10,000,000, so there's no room for more precision. Then, when the number exceeds 8,388,607 (the exponent is 150 now), the precision is exactly 1. So there are no fractions now.
After exceeding 16,777,215 - the exponent is 151 - precision is exactly 2. Etcetera, etcetera. It reaches up to the exponent being 254, then the number is around 3.4028235e38 if the mantissa is at its maximum.
When we set the exponent to 255, the number becomes infinity if the mantissa is exactly 0 - otherwise - it's just NaN standing for Not a Number, in Roblox terms it's the ACTUAL Nil zone, in other languages than Lua, and other engines not based on it it's the Null, Inf or the NaN zone.
CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG
You're almost right, but the 8 most significant bits preceding the sign are actually the *exponent* of the float.
The last 23 bits make up the mantissa (though it's technically *24* bits; 23 bits are stored, with an implicit leading 1 bit)
@@Yoshi128k Okay I corrected it and explained it more
Farlands give me that vibe you get when looking at liminal spaces
I genuinely love this I like to imagine if you go far enough you will disconnect and suddenly join a other game like going from 1 universe to other universe
my video actually broke when he said “that cause things to break”
I get this all the time. I thought it was just a size issue because sometimes when I get to max size in a game I play, I get flung so far that I start glitching like this. I started to realize that it happens at all sizes and figured that it was a distance issue. Very cool video and gave me a lot of answers.
I've been playing roblox for almost 10 years and never knew why this would happen if lets say I got flung out of the map somehow. The explanation was REALLY awesome! Thank you, and nice video!
If you could've played sandbox games like BaBfT you could've knew about it as you might fly away on something so fast that you'll reach it.
in my speed simulator game i had so much speed that when climbing i just disappeared due to how fast i was going (it was actually very funny just despawning)

I remember when as a kid, I had a obsession over this. Early early roblox, like when comic sans was still the main font and everyone had these dinky little green bars above their health, or when every 'morph' was named 'Dalek' I think? I don't remember--
It was like a boogieman style obsession, 'Nil' terrified me when I was really young, thinking it was some different dimension that hid within every Roblox game, and the only way to get there was to break the game and fling yourself far enough. I actually managed to do it a few times, rather consistently, I think I did it the most in this zombie survival DayZ clone *and* some random obscure obby that nobody could ever remember the name of at this point.
Now, as an adult, I know that it's math getting real freaky when the numbers get big enough. It's fun seeing it in all sorts of games. Honestly, it's as cool as little kid me thought it was, an alternate dimension in the game where everything's ceasing to function and the world around you is starting to collapse. Actually pretty easy to find this in EVE Online if you look at someone's ship a couple hundred KM away from you. It's basically the same effect the playstation had with its polygons I think?
It's cool. Nil is cool, You should make a followup video of going even *further* out showing the black screen @Tangled_Goo talks about. Would be pretty cool!
It's actually very common. it happens a lot to me when i get flinged by exploiters.
ive been in the nil zone before. Way past 20 million, it's because i have a history of being flung far out. Happens to me in games with prop physics

I played this game called "Sandbox 2", where people have had a sort of competition. Many players have created builds to see how high up they can build. The Sandbox Space Race to build to the Null Zone has been ongoing.
I knew about this for years, in games like build a boat you can fly up there, also games with flying bugs also send you there, rip galleons
I noticed in Minecraft with mods like effortless building the floating point precision glitch/error can happen a lot sooner, only around 1 million to 100,000 blocks where the voxels get very jittery in previewing placements.
I just bought your course on udemy. It's going pretty well :)
I love how the shirt on his avatar looks like it’s screaming louder the farther he goes, really nice detail
this has been around for a really long time. It also can affect data saving I remember when I used to play whatever floats ur boat I got glichted outside the map and I had balloons so I couldnt fall into the void so I waited and saved my boat. but when I loaded it in the boat was all messed up and janky it was really cool.
i could actually see this being used in a 2d-esc horror platformer game where everything would just glitch out
2,000,000 studs away from spawn is enough for it I guess, but there is gonna be so many glitches with it so I suggest building the game in an area where the game slightly glitches
@@gneu1527 i was thinking something like having the map be in the center, then when the player gets to a certian point in the map, they get teleported to a duplicated version of the map, and obviously, the duped map is 2,000,000 studs away, and probably kick the player idk

Going WAY far enough outside the barriers of roblox being stable your camera can only move in one axis (only x axis, y axis, or z axis depending what axis your breaking), and a few more billion studs (or something) the skybox will start to flash back, then when your somehow going beyond that the roblox classic rocket launcher explosion sound would play and you would die, not being able to respawn.
I used to reach it because subatomic tripmine had completely insane knockback in ripull minigames, and since it also did no damage, I'd use it to fly into space. Sometimes I reach super far distances unintentionally. I think the farthest I got before I was bored was when I was legit 5 triangles.
whhhhhh what’s a triangle
yes I know, but as you’re referring it
This actually happened to me recently in eat the world I got launched up so far away from the map a went from a cool avatar to 5 blue and brown pixels
This just happens in every game. The "farlands" isn't a really special place.
Its just you're so far from the center, reality in the game engine just starts breaking down. Due to you being so far from the reference point (that being the center)
This can be mitigated, and outright fixed with some solutions.
There was a glitch in jailbreak where if you clicked the enter on a car too fast repeatedly, on mobile, it’ll send you in and out of the car super fast and it will sometimes try to put you inside objects repeatedly, when you are going in and out of an object, it will keep trying to move you outside that object and eventually, it’ll panic and when you get in the car the next time during the glitch it’ll send you in a direction so fast that you can end up accidentally going to the part of roblox where your avatar becomes invisible. Another less effective way is to use the parachute and click the enter button a few times, you get sent not as fast, but you NEVER stop.
Then if you go further everything becomes invisible
Ah the “Null Zone,” I heard this many years ago lol.
There’s an easy way to this vertically in the game Plane Crazy. Just build a massive rocket (ensuring it is symmetrical and has a sensible centre of mass) and send yourself upwards.
The furthest I went was about 2.7 million studs before my internet went out
I remember old admin games having a command callld ;badlands player that would basically fling you millions of studs and you had to reset or else youd just be stuck flying
you can go even farther where you clip past the skybox which is supposedly infinite itself and its just black with the sun and moon but there is a way to even get to sun or moon but you need spectator mode in your game
The sun/moon are actually images along with the skybox.
The skybox is one of the most interesting things in Roblox.
I remember playing those old building games, I would have two rotators spin in different directions while connected to the same brick. Then I would jump on the brick and It would send me straight up so far into the far lands that I couldn’t see my character anymore. 11 year old me found this hilarious
the floating point, nil zone, null zone, both names go hard for this behavior honestly
@@disrespecc9678 There's 3 names that roblox players gave it, "Null zone" is one of them. "Nil zone" is basically the same, "Floating point" is literally just the floating point, the thing that kinda causes the distortion, "floating point precision error".
there is no true name.
@@ia_e_realnull zone or nil zone is literally just calling it “nothing zone.” i don’t know who gave it that name but it’s really not descriptive and doesn’t seem to have any relation to the actual floating point rendering error. floating point zone is just a better name for it
This is exactly what sebee experienced in his roblox space experience video when he was in the ship as it left orbit.
Fun Fact:You can see this effect in Pilot Training Flight Simulator (PTFS),specialy from Greater Rockford to Orenji.
The game I really enjoy playing on Roblox, called Project Smash ever so often occured when I got hit ot just flang, I would go from spawn either upwards or sideways, more than 3,000,000 studs. I probably was more further though. Still don’t know how and why.
A lot of people call it the nil zone in this common section, but it’s actually referred to as the null zone
except it’s really called the floating point zone because there’s literally no reason to call it either the null zone or the nil zone
This happend to me in plane crazy (roblox game), I had helium blocks and they were infinite-ly accelerating blocks and if you put a chair on it, you can go up to REALLY high heights at REALLY high speeds. And it would just be the equivalent to minecraft pixels.
Sí.
The furtherest distance you can go is 2147483648.00 or -2147483648.00 studs, after that it just stops and doesn’t go up
i love it when i get flung by a part and my character looks like a pixelmon
Dusty trip 10000> kilometers be like
I didnt even know roblox had farlands
But it makes sense that the space cant be infinite
0:36 I’ve had this happen before when my character flies thousands of miles outside of the map
I see this pretty often, whenever I get flung into the sky this happens
If you go too far you will explode
Really?
I've been to around 20m studs and I'm just saying. Blocks weren't blocks anymore. Nothing was literally not itself anymore. Everything was pixelated and so distored the blocks would look like random things. My character would look like a little white man, I really couldn't tell what was what. I was just flying off into space and still going with no end in sight.
I've been here before as in wizard tycoon I have a gamepass that lets me fly and sometimes it glitches and launches me 20M studs away or farther which causes me to be 1 or 2 pixels
i used to get these all the time in admin games when people flinged eachother
based on your description of the RBLX Farlands. I’ve definitely ended up there on multiple occasions
Y'know, when I was playing find the little guys, I actually found this out. I touch the "cube of death" and flung me millions of studs in the air. And I started to look like a bunch of triangles after a minute
This feels extremely similar to the Minecraft Bedrock Edition Farlands, where the textures mess up and you can only move on certain axis.
nice explanation :D
in royale high, it’s actually possible to fling yourself something like 5 million studs out by using something as simple as a shark floatie in the ocean. the devs know about this bug, they just find the glitch hilarious so it got to stay!
the triangle held up shockingly well
It’s a wedge
That happens in many games in different ways because of the integer limits
There is one thing that could happen where if you go too far then all you would see is the sky while your screen is flashing between the sky and a black screen
Also if you go really far then you could die, and it looks like your character has glitched out of existence
We love floating point errors
This gave me goosebumps
i have some screenshots of playing a game and being around 50 million studs away from spawn, and my character just being a LINE
Yeah, I remember this I used to do it in 2020 a lot and found it funny
I once did a glitch in build a boat for treasure and my body looked like a shape that was kind of a triangle + square + rectangle all messed up in different places. I was like 10000000 studs away from spawn lol. It was like 10 seconds into the 20 million studs.
this would be a cool feature for a horror game ngl
I call "The High Zone" everytime I get there.
it's same thing happened with space sailor when you try to 3 days moon challenge also it occurs on roblox fastest vehicle.
For those who wonder what happends if you go further let me tell ya.
Nothing. There is nothing anymore. Its just the void.
What if i told you theres somthing worse than 20 mil? I remember a gravity game where i then fell out of the map and DOWN to the sky. After bieng there fir a few hours my avatar at the end was just a triangle or 2 appearing every few seconds. Beyond that point tho.. idk what there. Its too far out.
Yeah i see this in a dusty trip
I think i have seen a video of someone going farther than that, and at a certain point the persons game "crashed" but not actually crashed
I wonder if any roblox games have utilized these Zones, perhaps as a way to add a glitchy effect to the game or make movement a bit challenging at certain points
Too risky honestly
Also would cause glitches
But making some sort of effect that mimics it is a good idea
this is a great video you are underrated lol
every build a boat for treasure player know what this is like when using the angel wings jetpack and eating a small candy then holding space
dude i joined the game and went to the max distance and the music gave me an extremely sad vibe 😭
Yes I did know about the far lands in Roblox. I like to call it the “glitch zone”
hacking and flying to the null zone was when i first found this out in like 2018-2019
It’s crazy that in every single 3D game in existence has a null zone? even shit like ultrakill
Welcome to the world of floating point numbers
once I got flinged so high up my character was only 2 triangles.
Some facts the nil zone this glitch is a case of your avatar breaking due to being to far the null zone is just the kill point in a certain location often -35 studs
@@disrespecc9678 it’s the same thing
nil zone and null zone refer to the same thing (the floating point rendering error) and neither of them should be used to refer to the kill point (FallenPartsDestroyHeight) which is actually at -500 on the y-axis unless changed in properties. idk where you got these supposed facts from but they’re incorrect
Once I managed to get to 100,000 speed going up with a glitch in one of my favourite roblox games. The speech was distorted, and I could barely see anything. I believe i was atleast 100,000,000 studs up.
Legend said this slope is still the same to this day
I remember finding this out in plane crazy after using helium balloon spam, but I thought it was due to the extreme speed and height
That one slope be like nothing can’t change me
