HI Andrew firstly love your video and the production style. I am thinking about the 600 because of the room size but was also just going to get a polk sub. However my denon x3600 support 2 subs. Would you get like 2x 8" or 10" or 1x 10 or 12 with these. Do you not like the polk subs?

Interesting. I own both the R700 and R600, and I'd agree with the assessment. The R600 isn't quite as cohesive as the R700. But actually it can be a bit more enjoyable to listen to sometimes because it has a little more presence to it. Neither of them are fatiguing to listen to, which is exactly what I wanted in a speaker. And they still maintain a great sound-stage without needing to emphasize the highs to achieve that. I've had them for a year, and still am loving them.
I find I don't need a sub at all for the R600. I have them in a living room/kitchen area with a more reflections (not fully carpeted), and I found positioning them well produces a fantastic low end; it is so enjoyable to listed to music with weight to it in the lows, because it does such a great job. A subwoofer does a better job of distributing the bass around the room better, but if you don't have the space in a room, you may find the room doesn't need it with the R600s.

When I was making my purchase, I really wanted the 700s but the price was just out of my range and I thought "meh, the 600s couldn't be THAT different, could they?", so I ordered the 600s... had them in my room for about a week and the 700s went on sale to within $200 of what I paid for the 600s. I called Crutchfield and they were amazing and letting me send the 600s back and shipped out the 700s when they came back in stock (even let me use your link to re-order them!). I couldn't be any happier with them and am glad I made the switch.... not because I didn't like the 600s, just that the 700s offered "more" of almost everything. I love them and can't see myself wanting anything different for a LONG LONG time. Thank you for your review in helping me make that choice! Still need to get a matching center and possibly the atmos speakers to sit on top, but I sure love them!

Thanks for the amazing review. It made me feel good about my recent purchase. I purchased the R-600's vs the R-700's based on the smaller size of my room. I purchased directly from Polk and received 10% off and a free PSW10 subwoofer. Still getting things adjusted, but the early results are amazing. Thanks for the reviews!

  • @obrien_murphy

Thanks for the review. We shouldn’t forget the around 2000 €/$ cost that r700 brings because of the required amplification. I own r700 and paired them with my denon x3700h and audiolab 8300a, but the sound wasn’t satisfying. So I tried 3 amplifiers, namely Cambridge Audio Azur 851A, Rotel RA-1592 MKII and audiolab 8300MB(monoblocks). At the end, I chose audiolab 8300MB. But with the right amplification, r700 is THE pair of speakers that I always wanted.

I've had my Polk R700's ( in walnut ) for a couple months now and I was lucky to get them, I was on a waiting list and was fortunate enough to get the 1st call when a pair came in.
Mine are powered by an NAD power amp ( 272 ) for the bass driver and an NAD integrated amp ( 372 ) for the mid range/tweeters.
You don't need a sub, when people listen to them the first thing they ask me is my sub on.
These are impressive speakers when you drive them with lots of power.

Great review. I made the mistake of getting the Klipsch RP 6000F instead of the 8000F. I think one should save up and get the larger speaker in this case the Polk R700. Lesson learned. In your space, white finishes are beautiful. Thanks Kristi. Sorry Andrew that one goes to the Mrs. I always factor in the price of a sub because a sub not only expands the bass frequencies but also helps open up the mid range as well. Happy Sunday. Cheers

As an old Polkie the Reserve series is Polks first offering in many years that have them returning to their roots of the 70’s &80”s where their Monitor Series were great sounding at affordable prices. I still have several pairs of vintage polks in my home and enjoy them. The R700 and the reserve series are hopefully a sign of things to come from Polk moving forward. Cheers from Perth Australia. 👍

I have R200's up front, R350 center, R100's in the rear, and a big fat Monolith Monolith M-12 V2 12in Subwoofer to bring home the base. I am happy with the Polk's, I believe they are very accurate, neutral, and a pleasure to listen to. My only complaint is that they seem too quiet at lower volumes. They seem to come alive as I turn the volume up, and for music, they sound really good all the way up at 92! There seems to be a little sweet spot up there. I'm powering them with an RZ50.
    Great review as always!
    Cheers!

As someone who has a pair of R600s mated to 4 R900 Atmos and R300 center and an SVS sub I can not recommend this speaker line enough (adding 2 pairs of Polk in walls with the ring tweeter soon). And R600 at its often on sale price of $650/each is a steal

Hi Andrew! Excellent review and comparison, as always 👌
I was using the B&W 603's and HTM6 (just before the anniversary edition but similar looks) for the last 3yrs+
Bought with a lot of enthusiasm but never could loved it's sound! Please dont judge me - I tried to love them but just couldn't. Then I saw various reviews of the Polk reserve series and ofcourse your review on the R700. I immediately fell in love with the looks and all the various options for other models in this series and especially the downward firing port.
I am a fan of wood/walnut fijish and the reserve series has that too! Then I started looking for places where I can audition them and found one dealer in my city with the R500 pair and the R300 centre! Well I immediately loved the sound signature and the fit and finsh is so so much better than my B&W 603's.
Then auditioned the R700 with the R400 centre in another city - WOW!! What a sound - absolutely non fatiguing but crystal clear, such punchy and so much body in the overall sound!! And the R400 center is just just mind-blowing!!
I immediately placed an order for the R400 - center, R100 (as surrounds) and a pair of R600 - yes, not R700 as I thought I already have two QAqiastics QB-12 subwoofers and the R600's driver size matches exactly with the R400.
Then they came - and after setting them up with my Denon 8500H - I just listened and listened and listened!! This is probably one of my best decision I have ever made.
Many thanks to you and Kristi for your fantastic work and in-detailed reviews, as always 🙏

I am truly a Polk fan now. After owning the "budget" R200 for almost a year I was kinda blown away by them. I love them. I upgraded to the R700 about a month ago. Using them for 2ch. with an Arcam PA240 amp I am very happy. They are indeed huge but I can put them much closer to the wall than the R200 with no ill effects. It was Andrew's review on the R700's that peaked my interest and I'm glad I purchased them. The R200 (with proper sub integration) can get one pretty close to the R700 sound, maybe even better midrange..but the R700 definitely gives one the better overall experience. They are pretty good for the money.

Don't you feel you need a sub with R700? Have an R200 and thinking of going the sub way or change to R700

    • @NosEL34
      @NosEL34 Před 6 měsíci +2

@@eugene9000pro No I don't think one necessarily needs a sub with the R700. For most I think the speakers will be enough. I will say the R700's bass improved after a few hundred hours. My REW measurements can back that up. Bass improved over time. Adding a sub to the R200 will definitely make the sound & presentation better in my opinion. There is a big difference between the R200 & R700 but the comparison is much much smaller if you have an R200 and sub..as long as the sub is integrated properly. The mids and highs are almost the same. R700 just throws a bigger fuller sound. I initially bought the 700's so I could get rid of my living room sub..but using the sub just made it better so I ended up keeping it. To me subs make a difference if implemented well. Do you use crossovers or DSP, EQ? How much were you planning to spend on a sub? You could sell your R200 for like $400 or more, put that with whatever you were going to spend on a sub and you might be kinda close to the R700 price. Here's my opinion. If you are totally satisfied with your Source (streamer/CD/or turntable) Dac or Preamp, and amplifier I would say go for the R700. If you feel you want to or maybe need to upgrade any of those I'd say get a subwoofer and keep the R200. You can build around the R200 & Subwoofer and be happy with the sound, and notice improvements with new pieces of gear. If you buy a sub make sure it's a good one and has everything you need..one that you can use in the future with any speakers or system. Get a good one the 1st time... unless you find a decent, budget priced one to get by with. Sorry I babbled on and maybe didn't give you a good answer but I don't know a lot about the rest of your system or room size. Good luck and if you have any other questions I'll try to help.

@@eugene9000pro I have the R200s on stands with the R400 center and HTS 12 run by my Yamaha RX-A3080 and the sound stage is incredible. I'm getting the R700s delivered next week to complete my surround setup, and I can't imagine how much the towers will add.
BUT... if I wasn't getting the R700s, I would be totally happy with what I have now. You could totally get a center and sub for the price of 1 R700, or by "change" I suspect you would sell your R200s for the R700s? You wouldn't be wrong either but would just be more cost. It maybe the better long term investment as I imagine these R700s will be speakers folks will hold onto for a long time, and you could build around them.

R200 with them sound amazing, except when turning up the volume the room (4.5*5 m) start singing. I'm living in a rented place, so sub would be easier to move in case I need to compared to r700, which look like real estate.

Andrew, thanks for another take on some products!
I was wondering about something that might spark a thought or two for you. I’ve been watching your channel for a few years now. There have been products that you love and some that you don’t. Some of the “loved” ones have made it into your reference collection; however, several obviously didn't for the obvious $$ and space reasons. I also know that each year you’ve had your best of the year show. Have you thought about an ongoing list that compares your favorites from this year to last year to the year before? For example, you loved the Musical Fidelity M5SI if I remember correctly. Where does that sit on the list of Integrated Amps for example?
Obviously, this could get large and maybe out of hand, but even a top 5 or 10 could be most helpful to those of us without your background or resources.

Another excellent review. Question, or scenario: You already have a great sub(s), and a decent A/V amp(Marantz 125watts@8ohms and 4 ohm stable) which may be borderline for the R700s. Will the R600s be a good enough value compromise, vs getting the R700s, and upgrading amplification?

I might suggest the R400 for you unless you're looking to put the R200s behind you and add 2 new front speakers. And I totally agree with you, I'm upgrading from the Polk's S series from 2020 and these reserves are killer.

Great video again Andrew, and Christy! have been watching your videos for a long time. Regarding small speakers, I was wondering if you could do a test on a pair of B&O Beosound Balance, and a pair of Beosound 2, the latest generation that comes with room compensation. These 2 Beosound models sounds nice and powerful. Both models are omni directional speaker, which doesn't give you that stereo image. What if we try the pairing mode setup? i.e. having a pair of each model and connect them as a stereo speakers. Would they perform as good as the others? Which model will work better? I am very curious to know your opinion... And big thanks again for creating so many interesting videos.

    Hello Andrew & Kristi,,,
Thanks a Ton for this review of Polk R700 & R600's I was waiting for this review from so long time, I'm using R600 for more than one year, Bcoz of unavailability of R700's here in India I bought R600's & almost happy with it, It's good neutral speakers. Klipsch rp-8000f first generation was in my list Bcoz of Klipsch more forward & horn like waveguide I went with Polk Reserve R600, as I have seen your R200's video & I made my mind to go with R600 instead of Klipsch rp-8000f.
    Using R600 + R400 Center + R100 as Surrounds. With Emotiva XPA 3 gen3 & BasX A2. Sub's - SVS SB 1000 PRO + Polk DSW 550 PRO.

@@qasimal-hadidi4800 You don't need an external amp like the Parasound. In fact I wouldn't have bought it if I didn't buy the Cinema 50 after I already have the 2125 amp. To my ears the amp make the speakers in certain situations sound bigger and smoother. Like for music with more delicate vocals and jazz music. I think the special effects sound more energetic while playing movies in a 5.1 configuration. Its only 5-10% better. I would not have bought the amp after I got the Cinema 50 if that makes sense.

A pair of 600’s and a pair of 100’s were sitting in my Best Buy cart during their sale last week - a whopping $850 off all four (black only). In hindsight, I wish I pulled the trigger (if anything just to have them). Currently running a Polk Signature Elite system and couldn’t justify the (still) substantial price difference for an apartment environment. Are the Reserve’s THAT much better than the ES’?

A bit late today to the parade, but I believe there should be maybe one less option within the line, with slightly bigger price gap. I don’t think it’s worth getting R600 with a sub, instead of an R700. Great speaker and all, but it kind of defeats the purpose, besides the fact you have to fit a big sub box somewhere as well. So, I’d always go with a slightly more expensive do it all speaker, rather then a combo. But Polk is absolutely on a roll. I thought they’re going out of business a few years back, I’m glad they’re not and kicking butt as well. Kudos to them. And to you guys for an awesome video!

The L600's sound like they wouldn't add much low end, which my SVS PB-1000 sub takes care of. Seems like they would be a tall bookshelf speaker with that in mind.

The R200 went back b/c the L200 was a noticeable improvement. Not drastic but certainly better & you can get the L200s for $1k. As for power the 4-ohm L200s max out at 200watts so my Carver M1090 w/150 @ 4-ohms powers them well.
