    I suddenly started having vertigo a week ago. Just tried this yesterday and after the first time I was about 80% better. Did a second round right before bed and woke up without any dizziness. I’m well into my day and have not had any issues. Thank you!!

    I have horizon left bppv. My symptoms getting worse last 2 weeks. I searched around and I found I have left bppv. I discovered that Epley maneuver get rid of vertigo. So I brace myself doing it alone by myself. And let me tell you, I was vomiting three times while doing the first round. I could not compete the routine at all. I was empty on my stomach so that help little with vomiting. I have bags by my bed for vomiting. It sooo awful feeling.
    But I managed to complete the Epley maneuver routine as I keep telling myself that I needed to do this. And it did get rid my lef bppv. I was 80% felt better. No more violently head spinning for me. I do feel slightly dizzy when looking down and up. I needed to do this Epley excerise twice daily for 7-10 days.
    There 3 more others maneuver. I will need to take a look as I still feel dizzy by looking up and down. I think one of other maneuver will cure vertical vertigo.

    Very nicely done explanation of the theory. The line drawing of the semicircular canals with the debris / otolith illustrated in purple was helpful. 💜
    I think it important you mentioned that the procedure has a small percentage of converting the posterior canal problem into a lateral semicircular canal problem and that you pointed to the assessment for the lateral semicircular canal problem.

    Thank you so much, I did this and my symptoms seem to have disappeared completely, fantastic. I was able to do it completely by myself, too.
    Edit: so my symptoms came back and I had to do the maneuver again this morning, but so far today I've had no episodes. I believe that looking down, or lying back, caused my symptoms to reappear, maybe.

      I get this every now and then. I wear one or two warm hats in the winter all the time because I get a very painful condition called neuralgia if I don't. I have to be very careful to keep my ears clean, outer, inner and behind, with soap and water and then vinegar and dried. I believe that if you don't and you're wearing a hat all the time, it can cause an infection in your ears which will cause this vertigo. Vertigo is the most distressing thing because you feel so helpless. If I even feel the tiniest twinge now I will do the epley maneuver and ensure my ears are clean and are getting air.

    Is the order - first ext then rot of the head important to move the crystals or can you do rot before extension?

    why is that called the modified epley maneuver? its just the epley maneuver. or did i miss something?

    • @CrossCultural-c7f
      @CrossCultural-c7f Před měsícem

      I believe the original Epley maneuver had the patient’s head completely off the table such that the clinician had to completely support the weight of the patient’s head while both extending neck so that the head was in that 10-20 degrees below the horizontal *and* turned at 45 degrees.
      With this modified Epley maneuver, the pillow is placed to assist with the head extension 10-20 degrees below the horizontal - also, the bed would alway be present below the patient’s head. This way, the clinician can focus mostly on positioning the head to the 45 degree turn.
      Here is a link to a demonstration of the original Epley maneuver:

    What if the BPPV is bilateral? Should the focus be on the worst side? Is the benefit of the Epley for one ear reduced by doing maneuvers for the other ear in this circumstances?

    • @Physiotutors

      Would suspect other reasons for dizziness. If it's really bppv, the epley test can be safely performed in both sides

      There's an 80% success rate with doing the maneuver once. If the symptoms are not completely resolved you can do another session. Be aware that the ear cristal might fall into the lateral canal, so it might be that you have to do the BBQ roll maneuver which we will publish a video for in the coming days!
