Which one is better: Anchor, DMC or Valdani ( i think it is this last one, but it is too expensive)... Is Anchor good enough? What is the difference beetween Valdani and Anchor brands??
Hi Monica: This is a tough one! I find the Valdani to be a better quality and I lie the variegated threads and the different thread weights that I can get in Valdani. They are hand dyed and colourfast and I just like the richness of the colours. I also like to work with perle cottons most of the time so Valdani works for me. I find the DMC and Anchor to be okay as well - I usually find their threads in 6-ply skeins that I need to unwind and separate to use. Really just a personal preference and the type of project I am doing.
Where do you buy the tencel thread?
Hi @Kara Jane. I bought it at a local store just outside Calgary and I think it's used for embroidery or maybe weaving. There wasn't any manufacturer or company name on the spool, so I don't have much info on it. You might find it in stores that sell similar supplies. Good luck in your search :)
I use tencel for weaving and get it from The Woolery online. Great price and they ship fast. I will now use it for embroidery...didn't think of that. Thanks!

I don't have any specific information on this thread - there is nothing on the cone itself and it wasn't wrapped or packaged when I bought it. The brandname of the fibre is "tencel" and it's a manmade fibre. I believe that this is made for knitting or crochet, rather than hand embroidery.
@@Chatterboxquilts I use it a lot for weaving scarves it has a nice drape and is soft. I’ll give it a try in my embroidery projects!
Hello! I was wondering if I would be able to embroider with heavy yarn? I am making a crib blanket from 2 pieces of fleece and I would like to embroider the babes first name, only 4 letters, with the same yarn I am using for the fringe. I wanted to use yarn so I would be able to make the name in a large, heavy block style across one whole side of the blanket. Is this possible? Thanks for any insight, I appreciate it! Hi Debbie: You could try to embroider with the yarn, just use a large chenille needle. You are talking about hand embroideyr, right? I would use a backstitch or running stitch - you'll have to make the stitch length at least 1/4" or maybe longer to make it work. An alternative is to couch the thread using your sewing machine, if you have one. You'll need a special foot to do this.
