    Remember the music demos are recorded sped up x6, then slowed down in editing - in real life it sounds like beebooobebebeeee 😂 irl speed is briefly shown at 12:10. No extra EQ or boost is added, the mic on my phone used to record slowmo naturally distorts like mad with 200hz at 140db lol. The camera shake is real as well since my phone usually rests on the roof or the seats a bit and it vibrates. 😎

      Build it you will enjoy it. Very musical and loud. The parameters for these series are very specific. Power, size of vessel, and frequency response testing. If you want lows at the sacrifice of other freqs. Then recommend a different design.

  • @Grommet2007
    @Grommet2007 Před rokem +3

    It's a "Bass Whistle". Basically a 1/4 resonator tuned to the frequency you want to get a peak at. The length of the path determines the resonance frequency, and the size of the enclosure determines how much gain you get at that frequency (larger enclosure = more gain). They work well.
    Their "achilles heel" is that first harmonic resonance that shows up at 3*Fb, and you can see that here in this video (it shows up at 600 Hz). More advanced TL design involves various tricks to deal with that first order resonance, including offsetting the driver down the line a bit (usually about 1/3rd of the way) to null it out. A few dB of overall output can be lost in the process however, so whether or not you should do it is basically down to what you're trying to accomplish with your design.

    Nice. I built a t line once using an mtx9500. That thing was frickin loud. Not the best sounding box i ever built. Had a little to much roll off. But it was in the trunk so not to bad. I think i still have the rf1692 6x9 i had in back deck. I gave the t line and sub to my son years later. He's still got it in his mustang. It's still impressive all these years later. I still have the rf500a.2 that I ran it on. As I've gotten older I've seem to like deeper bass. I tune most of my boxes 30hz and below now. Throw some 10hz on and get a nice back massage. I really don't care about being to load anymore. Just low deep clear shaking bass with very crisp highs.

  • @musicquestinc

    If the T-Line has the same bore dimensions from behind the driver to the opening then it will act like a cylinder with one closed end. In other words it’s acoustically the same as a clarinet, which also only plays every other harmonic. This because instead of a quarter wave it acts like a half wave due to the wave needing to travel the entire distance of the T-line and back before unloading. This a tube with one closed end will play twice as low as the same length tube with two open ends. This only happens if the dimensions are the same all of the way through the tube or t-line.

    1:14 I dont understand how 180cm wave (190Hz) translates to 30Hz due to "scaling". Doesnt sound of speed remain constnant 180cm wave is always gonna be 190Hz no matter how you scale your box?

    • @barevids
      @barevids  Před rokem

      Think about how the note on a wind instrument gets lower the longer the tube is made. Same situation here. We are scaling every thing by a factor of 6, so to play 190hz we only need 45cm line, as opposed to needing 285cm line for 30hz. Acoustics is just fluid dynamics and scales perfectly, but you have to scale EVERYTHING, frequency, dimensions, volumes, etc. You can't scale down a 30hz tuned subwoofer and expect it to still play 30hz when a 6th of the original size, which is where your speed of sound statement comes in.

    loose uncontrolled sound from an open cabinet does no favours for sound quality. Drive units are not tightly controlled been driven in an open cabinet when it is been driven by the amplifier. Distortion gets higher with uncontrolled driver extension while not been able to play cleanly at higher sound levels. There will also be issues with cabinet resonances with a cabinet not treated by appropriate bracing and damping to stop those sound distortion resonances made from the uncontrolled drive unit distortions resulting also in sound distortions and vibration noise coming from of the cabinet .

      Loudness is usually associated with amplifier power. So if you test maximum amplifier power at 2 ohm and 3 ohm, you almost always get more power at 2 ohm.

    I have a crazy hybrid design. Problem is in order to submit it, it would be showing everyone else a design that could then be copied. My design is so unique I would actually like it patented. But with a series like this; it basically puts people's good designs on display which as stated, may result in someone copying it. So please anyone if you have interest in your intellectual property; patent or substantiate proof for your designs before sending them in. Who knows if one of you guys will come up with something groundbreaking and then someone else grabs that design and makes a profit.

      If you wanted to submit it for private testing you're welcome to! There would naturally be a charge, and you would have to trust me to keep the design completely to myself, perhaps I can sign an nda or similar. Would be a good way for you to prove a concept in a controlled testing environment though which would be hard to replicate in full scale ☺

      @@barevids I've actually already built a full-scale version and it is currently operating in my living room at the surround sound subwoofer. It is literally the best subwoofer I have ever heard or used in home. I always turn my in-home subwoofers even lower than I would in a car so I have that rumbling bass for movie tracks. And it handles everything Clean. It's only 2- 8" inch subwoofers and it's maybe 100 w total being pushed to them at max volume but with my hybrid design; I have bass that literally rumbles all the way to my third floor in the attic; rumbles my windows; and rumbles my doors to where I had to put thin foam strips in the door frame like you would for an exterior door, in order to keep my door from rattling. And it handles the higher frequencies tight, punchy, and clean as well. I won't go into the details of how but it it has three different frequencies at a ratio harmonic tuning. The harmonic tuning actually increases the output on all Chambers when an individual chamber reaches resonant frequency. I've already done what's known as the poor man's copyright on the design. But would rather wait until I actually go through the proper names for filing a patent before submitting it for testing. I can only go by my math and what I hear with my ears though since I don't have the equipment necessary to test it properly. But I can say that these two little eights on that little of power is actually just as loud to my ear as a 12-inch woofer that I had built for my car once on a 600 w.
      By-the-way; if I wanted to send the design to you for private testing; what would the charge be.

    Bro, this little speaker sounds nowhere near this. Why are you adding so much bass to the recording to make this little speaker sound like it's 2-12" competition subwoofers?. It's barely moving the paper towel hanging. Bass this deep would eat the paper towel. Your also testing the little driver inside of a box like people are going to listen to this speaker with their head inside of a box. Pull the speaker out into the open in the room and test it. You know, actual normal testing peramiters. I can test a pair of earbuds inside of a box and get better readouts.

      So, you edited your comment drastically, with new issues - you completely misunderstand this whole series. Go back and watch the pilot episode. This series simulates a car audio environment at a 1:6 scale. Yes, people DO sit inside boxes and listen to speakers, aka vehicle cabin and subwoofer. This is not simulating hifi, home theatre, or anything like that. I guess it pays to understand the content you are criticizing before making yourself look silly.

      I guess the whole “scale” thing went over your head along with the testing frequency.
      Many people start with small driver (normally like a 8”) and experiment with tuning and different enclosures/ size and port volume and when they find something that’s works well they then Scale it up larger and see if the results translate over.
      This is exactly what this serise is about see which works the best and then scale it up and see if the results are the same.
      BUT If you can do a better job go ahead and show us how it’s done, we are all waiting
