Remember the Phoenix Cyclone.
YES!!!!!! I always wanted one back in 2002 and they were rare back then lol
i always wanted to hear one...
Thanks for reminding us about that.
Seen one on eBay in parts few months ago sold for like 3k. And a complete one around the same time went for 8 or 9k
I absolutely love this series, I really hope it grows the channel.
I have never felt more forced to 3D print my next subwoofer enclosure for my 10 inch one. so much fun to try i seriously love these series
Try some 3/4 birch plywood.... easier...more cost effective..probably louder.
Ive been using printers as part of my building process for several years now. Totally possible to do what youre talking about just takes a big printer or a lot of parts. I make ports, tweeter pods, horns, waveguides, speaker adapters, full enclosures, etc etc with mine. Also lots of 2a stuff.
Depending on your application it might not be worth doing an entirely printed enclosure. Im currently printing some custom underseat enclosures for mid bass drivers.
@@dage5129
Try some round 1/2 cardboard. Cheaper and stronger.
I'm sad i didn't find this on season 9, it's always best to binge stuff like this. Thank you for your service to the basshead community dude 💪🏻🔊💨
lol. Imagine that, in few years from now, this series has become one of the most popular on CZcams with millions of people regularly tuning in. This has caused enclosure design to become an advanced field of scientific research, and Sam (and his team) are 3D printing designs submitted by everyone from Professors of Cymatics and Audio Research Engineers to SPL World Record Holders and Sub-Bass Savants.
Then some dude stumbles onto the tail end of Season 9 and gets to binge-watch the whole thing 😂
@@ScramTek Honestly, i believe that day is fast approaching, and i'm kind of surprised that it's not more common to find absolute established EXPERTS in this field. Though if that were to happen, i wonder if people could patent designs 🤔
You can save impedance sweeps in memory in the dats software and show multiple graphs at the same time. Might help with showing the differences

This is currently favorite series on CZcams. It’s the best content I’ve watched in a while. One thing I’m slightly hoping for at the end of the season would be to hear how each box actually sounds, and maybe give the box with the flattest response an extra award, even if it’s a “bust” in the loudness category.
Really neat idea. That box tunning box in a box is simular to the decware death box.
I find it really interesting that for both this and the last box there have been scores where the cone was very loaded and extremely efficient, but didn't gain much in score at all when increasing power
Dude this is the best series on CZcams regarding audio, nobody else makes videos like this comparing enclosures
Best channel to watch right now!
I have been professionally installing high end car audio since 1993 and started competing in 1995. You are the first person i have encountered that posses the knowledge of amplifier components and architecture as well as the science of installations. You are one in a million brov.
Seriously, from the audio scene you should have over one million subs. Best channel in this industry across the board. You do an outstanding job throughout the videos and solid coverage of all info.
One thing I think that would help you is to start doing dyno runs on new amps.
This is my favorite series to watch! Helps me know which designs to look out for to print
Looks exactly like the fatory bose subwoofer in my wifes car that uses 2 4" drivers and has pretty surprising output for what it is
I spy with my little eye....a half decware design....now I'm going to have to crawl through your content to see how it did! :) thanks!
Looks like a bathroom fan housing.
Call it the fart fan.
What's funny is my bathroom fan housing is made out of a skar audio 8-in subwoofer box Don't worry I'm an HVAC professional as well😅😂😂
Hahaha! It does
Yes, you are correct in assuming that having the port that close does extend the port to help out. When I was doing research about the LAB horn-loaded subwoofer, corner loading was talked about a whole lot! It really does help.
Hitting the like button will open him up to a wider audience, please do this if you want to see more from the channel!
Due to your new series... I have learned a lot about box design... Now I am preeti confident about my own box design.... Thanks for this effort... ❤
That design is really kool. Moving the driver or being able to move the driver farther from the horn area is awsome
Love this series and channel. Brilliant
It's only a matter of time before @Hexibase catches wind of this and designs something that hits 150db.
I think the enclosures with a widemouth are directing the sound waves better towards the meter than the other ones that are more directional giving a higher score. But bass being omnidirectional I don’t think that’s the case although the test is being done with 6x the speed so the sound waves become more directional Vs testing with actual low frequencies. Many variables Bass is not a pretty little business.
I love watching this very interesting, keep doing it man
This is my most looked forward to series watching on CZcams now 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Glad to see amazing content again mate been watching since the pioneers, well done fella
The best car audio series on CZcams
Another crazy design.. another good video. Keep up the good work.
Most awesome series
This is awsome. liked the snail design and how it is tunable.
Really digging this design!
New class of competition
Very cool. You have some very bright and creative viewers!
Twice a week, awesome!!
Very interesting enclosure design
A true folded horn design would be an interesting test, something like a BFM tuba
I've already submitted a Tuba style design but with rounded corners. I think it should be coming in the near future.
How’s about that there devastater
padding might help with the harmonics, these boxes are tuned for such high frequencies that you are getting reflections inside the box
from egypt with love
great video as usual. i sent in a few designs using the snail shell progression with a rectangle port. i'm curious to see how that would compare to this design. there is even one with a triangle dual reflex in it ;).
Your knowledge of all of these audio products is off the charts! I think a great idea for a future series would be if you were to show the insides of and rate the build/design quality of car amplifiers. Or even if you just had a rating scale and rated them on the side while you were doing repairs would be so helpful. I'm in the market for a good qualtiy full range amp, but also would like to know what the best value amps are from the brands often overlooked. I respect your opinion and would love to hear your input on the quality of amps currently being sold while being able to see them with the cover off.
If I do a search all I see is top 5 and top 10 rankings from sites that I've never heard of which means they're likely paid ads in disguise. Some people would likely take those sites at face value and end up with that Rockville rated at number 1. If I search other YT vids I get a bunch of dyno ratings which logically doesn't make sense to me as a true gauge of a good amp. So the only thing left is to search forums where, when people ask, everyone wants to answer it in an off hand and diluted way, so as not to risk getting lambasted by other members. "It depends" is a worthless answer. Therefore, even if you stopped short of stating which one you think is best, a rating scale for build and design, based on your knowledge, would likely net you a lot of additional and happy viewers!
Thanks! Can you tell me more specifics, what are you wanting to run the amplifier on? Power, number of drivers, make and model drivers, etc?
Love this series. You should collab with Hexibase.
Bowers & Wilkins has a really cool speaker shaped like as snail.
I've seen something similar in a factory unit in a bmw that was the style the used for bass in the rear something very similar and used a very long throw like 4 or 5 inch driver and sounded much bigger than it was it had a lot of thump that u could feel u could unload the sub very easy when turned up hi
it would be quite interesting if you put the frequency response curve of each one.
I wish i knew how to draw one. Oh well. Good watch sam!
Same here I've had to have a friend help me...
With some polyfill in the line, those phase distortions above 200hz will diminish substantially! Transmission lines and other similar horns almost always need some form of stuffing to reduce the resonances. It's a "make or break" kind of situation with these designs. Regardless- these designs are SICK. Love the videos brotha!!! Keep it up!
we need passive radiator enclosure! :D
Passive radiators are effectively the same as ports. So if you want you could just replace the ports with prs
@@blakebrockhaus347 yes but they play low in really small enclosures and have no port noise. so there are some advantages over port.. for me only downside is often price
@@DavidCakl1 I agree. But I think for the purposes of this there wouldn't be much difference. And there's also the consideration that it's more difficult to print a passive radiator than a port
@@blakebrockhaus347 i dont think you can print a passive radiator.. printed piece will be just closed enclosure for 2 speakers
I suppose the TOP three designs could use a REAL WORLD scaled up construct. Install a 12 inch woofer in them and see what they do in a real world car setting. See if your readings at 4 inch woofer matches them anticipated at 12 inches. Cool Series. Keep up the great work! BDBD/2023
Yo Sam! Some dope ass jamz!! Did you mix that?
Question for you does it matter what type of material you use in building an enclosure? Reflection of soundwave and back pressures of different materials. How would it affect the previous enclosures if they were made out more dense or less materials?
As long as the material is sufficiently rigid it doesn't have much effect
Bass!
Hope Sesh submitted his box and it shows up soon if he made it in. 😁
Well we know it will smash the lows lol.
Where’s Henry when you need him to build a bad ass box!
you should use a plexi side for the 4ths and 6th orders where the speakers aren't in view
This look's like my horn car ! Same shape
When you wrap this series up do you plan to build a full size version of the winner?
Its like a car hooter ...horn type
Will the author be willing to share the design? Its awesome!
I feel like someone is just going to make the box so big it becomes a walled build.
Anyone know if a vintage JBL 4530 had good low end? If so try to scale it down and match it to the driver used here.
The highest frequency of the driver emits from opposite the terminals. Rotate the driver will change everything.
sorry i dont understand what you mean.
Front load the driver?
Where's Danley at?!? Tapped Horn action?
That's where they came up with the idea for the Death Box
Make folded horn like cerwinvega 21"
Did I miss it in the video but where can we find more info on this box? I'm wondering if it can be scaled to at least an 8 inch sub?
This is a scaled box for a 12in. If you made it the same for 8" it wouldn't work the same due to the quarter wave horn section then being much smaller and shorter than intended.
If you were able to only measure the dB of the primary frequency, how much would that affect the score? In other words, how much does the distortion/harmonics contribute to the score? If it's significant, that would encourage bad sounding boxes, which I don't think is in the spirit of this competition.
In general, added distortion comes at the cost of true efficiency. Many big spl builds are actually quite low in thd
Actually it fits the old school car audio spl competition spirit pretty well
Rhe box modifying rhe sound seems kinda normal i know some boxes i make have huge gains nat specific tines and thats why i nake them like that
Correct me if I'm wrong but, I think this design seems to work like the "Deathbox" design from Decware just in a different form/shape.
Agree. But its a neat idea. Tunable horn/4th order? A better design with newer technologies. However the distortion 🤔. Enjoy the ideas. And seeing how they perform.
@Anthony Burton could you please explain the front loaded vs the rear loaded? 🤔 very interesting... yes I would like to see more of these enclosures designs. And see how flat & Loud they can be...
@@nnperformance76 it's not based on the direction of the cone. I believe front firing horns are band passes with a box on one side and a horn on the other. A rear loaded horn allows the driver to fire into the surroundings
@Blake Brockhaus interesting 🤔? How can a woofer be loaded semtricaly? Normal ports will not do that. Very Interested in learning. Actually u are correct until someone can prove u wrong. From my experience. But its limited... but I believe u are correct...its actually the port design that loads the woofer?😮
Can I have a copy of this stl please I would like to make a Bluetooth speaker out of one of these
what is that meter display on the camber?
real time Watts to the driver
@@barevids Oh nice, is it possible to get this installed in your car setup, to see the rms power?
@@realfakepro3706 yep. Quite slow refresh rate tho. Not good on transient music. But fine for tones or long notes.
Almost looks like Bose
Bose uses the same style enclosure
The waveform on the laptop at 360hz was strange. Looks like a sunrise. 🤔
How do I send my design?
Well that is very similar to the Decware Deathbox that I submitted . . .
I thought the same!
@@barevids Makes me even more curious about how the Deathbox will perform. Any idea how long before we get to see it? :)
@@nathanjames4242 not sure! I have over 25 submissions to go through, two a week.. Well, as soon as I get the DATs and laptop fixed 😔
Do you know how the death box works? Simiitry loading? If so can u please explain?
Turbo charger? Whoever designed this- your BrillenT
Why don't you play some songs in open without putting it inside chamber just like Bluetooth speakers. ? You have tested 3-4 enclosure but i don't have any idea how it really sounds in open. 🤔
you completely misunderstand the whole point of this series. go and watch the pilot episode lol
I woulda raised tested wnd lowewd down and tested and see wich was the best then let that be the test runs
He did.
I really love this series but i do think you should put the bass demos after the door open and door closed tests. Keep the results at the end though. I think it might be a better formula for watch time, I know it would be for me.
Do a Jbl flip 5
It has nothing to do with this contest
Bro 💀
@@barevids yo ya should try do something like that with JBL BoomBox or Xtreme 2 driver, they’re pretty well built and has lots of excursion
Needs an Fs of around 180 to scale well I suspect those are much too low since they're trying to produce real low frequencies rather than scaled up
Moist
All of this series was pointless when you can't hear the beuty of the music. Yes they are loud but distorted, for me i can measure the loudness in the boundary of clean and unclean. Loudness was useless when you can't Heard the cleanliness of the sound,
You don't understand what's going on here at all buddy.
@@barevids is that so? So why i can only here in my headset was fart frat fart. How can we appreciate the sound of a different box if you are the only one who can hear it, every box has a different harmonic sound, so how can we relate to what you said. Just saying.., 🙂
@Gregorio Mandigma Old saying. It's best to keep your mouth shut & people will think ur dumb or you can open or post & prove them correct....
Hexibass 3d prints big boxes fyi but he has nothing on MR. BAREVIDS. MUCH LOVE FROM ACCROSS THE POND! 🇺🇸 🇺🇲
