  • Fitting drawers for my bandsaw stand, with recessed drawer pulls. Also some optimization to the passive dust collection
    woodgears.ca/tool_stand/bandsa...
    Yes, these drawers are in no way like a "bandsaw box", but I picked that title quite deliberately :)

    I've subscribed to lots of woodworking channels in order to learn more but really this is the only one I watch because of your ways of teaching. it's like watching woodwork and science together. You really explains the concepts without even trying and make it easy to understand the basic principles and nature of wood and the engineering of it. Thank you Mathias

    Convenient timing on the upload, Matthias. I have a similar project of making drawers where I intend to make them with wood sliders, rather than store-bought metal ones, for cost's sake. I was having a hard time working it out mentally, and your video goes a lot way to give me a plan of attack. Thanks.

      @ludwigtheurer Před 7 lety +5

      Antique scroll saws used to be made of wood, and ran on pedal power and flywheels, and they work very well. I recommend watching PhilipStephens007 videos, he does a lot of incredibly simple improvised machinery.

    • @gatekeeper84
      @gatekeeper84 Před 7 lety +2

      Where would you say the difficulties arise? There are dozens of homemade scroll saws builds to be found, most out of wood. I especially like the pedal driven ones but I don't think Matthias would agree on that :)

    • @red13emerald
      @red13emerald Před 7 lety +1

      Oh, I didn't know that scroll-saws were built from wood in the past, but I guess that makes sense. Maybe I just think it's hard because I have no idea how I would make one. It seems like a challenging process, especially considering the >1m long arm that needs to move at quite a high frequency. I don't know how much tension you usually put on a scroll-saw blade, though, so it might not really be much a challenge at all, especially for an experienced woodworker.

    • @jvmiller1995
      @jvmiller1995 Před 7 lety +4

      I made one from wood It has a 20 in throat and i use it a lot. Not hard I even mad the air pump to clear the dust from wood. It powered by a varible speed jigsaw. most scroll saws are 1.5amps 2 at most the jig saw i am using right now is 7 amps.

    A cheap deck of cards is super handy as a shim set when trying to center drawer faces. Just push in whatever cards fit into the gap, count, divide in two, and you have two perfect shims to center your drawer. Drilling a 5/8ths hole through a cheap deck is also a nice source of dado blade shims .
