As a proud Canadian of Jamaican parentage, I love, love, love akee & salt fish! It’s my FAVOURITE dish besides Oxtail, rice & peas!😋 My gosh if I don’t stop I’ll hop on a plane & go there RIGHT NOW for de food & etc! One more thing hearing a Jamaican man talk is so nice! BIG UP JAMAICA! 🇨🇦🇯🇲

Thanks for showing authentic Jamaican cuisine! The Portuguese have also contributed to Jamaican food culture. Some Portuguese Jews fled to Jamaica during the Spanish inquisition and others had been on the island since the Spanish occupation. They introduced saltfish (bacaulhau), Gizzada (guisada in Portuguese) and canned sardines.

Not true. Salted cod came from an exchange with Canadians. I can't remember what the exchange was, but it came from them even to this day.
@@missdorr4947 the Canadians use a different process. The Portuguese introduced bacala to the carribean and Brazil.
Not sure how true that is though. What you're referring to is actually the Queijada which is a lot different to the Jamaican Gizzada. So I wouldn't say they introduced us to it.
@@gbrown9694 Canadians trade in salted cod with Jamaica to this day. Go read up on the history of saltfish in Jamaica. We have never called it bacalau.

great show, this is the kind of jamaican experience people should always get. Good circumstance, nice people, high quality. it’s horrible when people experience bad circumstances like scams, over charging, and worse, which is how it is for a lot when they go to different places, but that makes people not want to go back or recommend. This was really cool, and the host was knowledgeable and over all seemed like a great experience.

I am glad you got to experience these dishes! I am Canadian of Jamaican descent and I will really unashamedly state here that I love some of the other Caribbean cuisines almost as much. A part from Caribbean cuisines, there are few other cuisines that successfully integrate multiple cuisines together the way we do.

Escabeche is one of my favorite dish, growing up here in 🇵🇭 my late grandmother always cook us a fish escabeche. Now I'm in my early 20's I can say it's my specialty, my family and friends love my cooking "Grandma's Recipe". 🤣 I always love watching about 🇯🇲 specially their food really wanted to try them and the Ganja.😁

I love this content but I was wondering why in the intro that you said the food was influenced by the Chinese when ackee and salt fish, cassava and jerk are all Taino/Arawak/Maroon dishes? What makes Jamaican and most other Caribbean food so delicious is the use of local foods in native dishes. I was waiting so see the classic shot of Drew drinking from a coconut the whole time too. ackee is directly from Africa. It wasn't native to Jamaica so Taino didn't create it.
Jerk is Arawak influenced, them and the Africans who were never enslaved, called "maroons".
