- After picking up some racing games on sale, I decided that a steering wheel would make a great addition to my controller collection. Looking for the best budget options I found the HORI Racing Wheel Apex. Being a relatively cheap racing wheel (about $90 - $99) my expectation were low, but I was actually quite impressed by its performance!

Update: There are reports that the rumble pack vibration isn't working in S mode for some games. If you are having this issue, you may want to experiment with different combinations of settings both on the wheel and in game. The wheel seems to not be fully supported in some cases, and may be reason to consider finding an alternative. I'd still say it's a good choice for the price range, but if you are serious about getting into racing / driving simulation, you should consider investing in a wheel with force feedback (not the same as vibration).
I am gonna get one for Christmas
@@saajidhafiz187 Hope you enjoy it!
@@tommyp614 Hey! Sorry for the late reply! Unfortunately the sim wheel market is really expensive right now, and the holidays have just made it worse. You could potentially find a HORI Apex / Overdrive for between 80 - 100 USD. These wheels are great for super casual play! I believe the GT Driving Force has force-feedback and a 900 degree wheel rotation though, so the HORI might feel like a big step down. I picked up a Logitech G29 (comparable to the GT Driving Force) for 200$ used (a month or so ago) and have been loving it. The Thrustmaster TMX has also been a popular choice lately for force feedback wheels, though it only has 2 pedals. I'd recommend digging around and looking for a good deal or possibly even used wheel, also prices might go down a bit after the holidays.
@ZerumTV Hey great video! I am about to purchase it for my younger brother for Christmas. Does anyone know all the games that are compatible with it? He has a desktop/pc in his room.
Can you use this for GT Sport on PS4?
Solid review. Got this wheel just over a month ago and everything you said stands 100%. This is the wheel that will get me into the wheel madness. I only use to like once or twice a week for ATS and such and it's amazing and does the job good!
Glad you're enjoying it, definitely a great gateway wheel!
@@mark.85. DP and ps4-s for steering ! And depending on the game I'm playing I always readjust the steering sensitivity to what's best for the in-game wheel
What game is that??
such a good simple review straight to the point on every topic so many top end people trying to evaluate the ins and outs of everythind, we j wanna know is a better than a controller or is a pile of crap and tell us about some key areas and how to set it up. done, loved it mate absolute class
Thank you for the dead zone help. Didnt feel like reading the entire book all night. Assetto Corsa feels 90% better now with the dead zone. Only thing is that my settings for no dead zone was the opposite and not up. A company can't get their shit right is annoying. Everyone has different menu settings for the same steering wheel. Lol. Thank you!
Great job on the video ZerumTV! I like how it’s very honest. This is definitely a good starter wheel for sure.
Keep it up! #subbed and #liked
The quality of this video is great!
Thank you!
Thanks for a good review. Some crazy review on youtube about theses wheels. Thanks
👍Thank u for your review I'm new to f1 2021 and I play on xbox one s with controller which I'm pretty good with actually to my surprise, but I think it'd be a much better experience with a wheel. On a budget so imma give this one a shot.. I drive automatic, but I'd love to learn using the gears/paddels.
I’ve just brought one today I will kee this in mind when setting it up later 👍
Thanks mate. This really helped
Good review man. Keep it up. Subbed
As an owner of one, it is a great little wheel for the money
I have a question, i broke my 4p connector that connects wheel with pedals. Do you still have this wheel and can u pls send me a color order?
I have a Question is it very durable
@@Germany.Memorabilia Yes. It is very durable. I have had mine for two years and has been absolutely fine.
@@tomosr4169 thanks
hey really good review pls keep up the good work and thank you
Thanks, I appreciate it!
Excellent review and I’ll double down on “ it’s a solid choice compared to a basic controller- “ but you’re going to get bored quickly and wish you had spent more for a better setup.
I will buy this wheel. My little cousin brought his uncles old one and it goes for forty on ebay atm. I downloaded a free racing game which was project cars pagani edition. I kicked on some music and started driving and almost immediately a lot of my stress was gone. I like night drives but cant drive yet so this is as close as ill get
I have this Wheel for a Long time and ist for me enough and the Vibration is really Informationus when you Play for Many months
I love how he says “UNDER 100$” me it’s 1$ less like bruh
Haha you got me, but tbf you can pick it up on sale or used for a lot less. Wouldn’t recommend the really cheap wheels though.
It's 99.99 Amazon
@@STEALTHENGINEREPAIR 😂😂😂
I bought it for 80, brand new in the store😅
105$ in used hungary ☠️
I am just getting into F1 2021 and just ordered the apex HORI wheel
I am so excited I know is not the best wheel but I think is the best for my budget
Hope you enjoy it! I can have tons of fun with the HORI. If you're willing to spend some time getting the wheel settings right it can perform pretty well!
I’m suspecting you have gotten your whee by now, how is it. I wanna get a wheel of my own
@@RealRafRaffy a lot of playing with settings tbh
Playing formula 1 2021 on my ps 5 with it, just lovely, exacly what i was looking for, a nice wheel that feels nice and does not break the bank.
Would u say its worth buying?
Can you give me your settings, for me its horrible to play f1 with it.
I’m just gonna get this and make sure I’m going to enjoy sim racing then I’ll probably go for something like a g29
That's exactly what I did! I have the g29 now and it's a great wheel, but sometimes I worry I don't play enough to justify the price. The HORI is awesome to have around for occasional playing.
That’s what i’m going for too, first get a cheap wheel to see if i’m even interested in it and if imma get a G920
Hey. Great vid!
Do you recommend any decent wheels for the Xbox 360?
You are very entertaining and You should most definitely have over 5,000 subscribers by now
Thank you, that means a lot to me!
I actually use the hori apex racing wheel.. i love it.... i do have issues when i have it connected as well as my controller i use for rocket league.. 1 thing that i do hate is that clamping system... the screw stripped on me after 1 clamping to desk.. and the suction cups just plain didnt make the cut as they didnt hold like the manufacturer claimed.. so i use 3 stripes of thick velcro to hold it to me desk.. its permanently mounted which is fine for me as my keyboard can be reached with my left hand as i play truck sims and nascar heat 5 with it
Great Video Zerum. The one thing the world needs to know though: does it work on playstation 5?
The amazon page mentions a firmware update for PS5 support, but I've never tested it myself!
It is for ps4 s and N and for ps3
Great budget wheel, have one myself.
Can I Change it with an F1 wheel?
@@Emrabo. Dude the F1 wheel is like 50$ or so? Invest 220$ for an logitech g29 and then its worth to Upgrade the wheel
I'll give the Hori RWA Apex a try.
I initially wanted to wait with Gran Turismo 7 until I got a PS5... but I don't knows how long that will take, so I bought GT7 for ps4, but i find playing with a controller kind of boring. I'd even try racing it online when I get the hang of it.
Please don't, just buy a used g29
Does it work for the PS5?
@@cannedbeanz yes but a used g29 is about £160 whereas a used t150 is £99
I have this wheel and its amazing
Got mine used for very cheap, I was satisfied enough with the vibration in place of force feedback. A little disappointed to find out the vibration doesn’t work on ps5, but maybe a firmware update can solve that
Thank you for this video!
I'm seriously considering the xbox version for forza horizon and maybe motorsport, think I will buy it and then if I really get into it i'll switch to the upper price range!
You can better save up for one with force feedback
@@woooshh7553 I agree that it's worth the upgrade to force feedback. However, a cheap beater wheel isn't bad to start off on, especially if you don't end up playing a lot. Also, if you start with a cheaper wheel then upgrade, you can keep the spare around for playing with friends. All things to consider
does it works with forza horizon 5
on the pc
@@Ya-pp9rn yess indeed
I'm trying to decide whether to get this wheel or the newer version of it. Anyone know of any benefits of getting the newer one over the older one?
7:08 akakasi ? Samoan person with some European ancestry.
this is a new word for me
anyways thank you for the review. by far the best one for this product on youtube.
Thank you, I'm glad you like the review!
At the spot you timestamped I'm saying "Its *efficacy* may vary". Efficacy being just a fancier way of saying effectiveness. So, I was saying that you can try adjusting the dead zone in your game but I'm not sure how effective it will be. Hope this helps!
thx.
Yo bro, good review. You elaborate nicely. Bro we had "rumble packs" since n64 lol. That is boo boo. Force feedback is the mecca. If you get a good rotation force feedback sure lol. I just don't have time anymore, and I have small children I'm teaching it. I can't buy good stuff right now haha. I got the hori, and my 4 year old loves his hands on it when i drive. His reaction speed is improving. Great co-op scenario for kids.
I got this wheel a long time ago for 80 bucks and it worked pretty good, only bad thing that the steering wheel in the game moved very weird just like when you slowly move your eyes from side to side, not smooth. Turned out I had the wrong settings and literally 10 minutes ago I changed the settings and for me it feels like direct drive
what did you change i have the same issue
@@JenniferFunk33 I commented this a long time ago and eventually I got a new steering wheel. But I can still remember that there was a little switch on top of the dash that said something like "PS3 - PS4". I changed it to PS4 and then it went smoothly. But that was on my end, I don't know if you have the exact same issue that I had. Hope that helped :)
@@stvn3291 thanks, that helped a lot!
@@JenniferFunk33 for sure he changed the "Sensitivity" and the "Non-linearity". You have these 2 factors to "play" with until you find "yours", which are essential for a perfect driving!
a better wheel for the same ish price is the pxn v900 or if you want better quality and a shifter go with the v9
3:06 gg
$160 here in Australia from Ebgames. I have the overdrive wheel for Xbox. It’s ok for cheap I guess. I know nothing about this stuff so I don’t know.
I definitely think that the Ferrari 458 wheel is a lot better although it isn’t quite realistic if you are using a different brand of car. The Ferrari wheel has very nice grippy rubber and it has metal gear paddles and it is about $99 USD ( I am not too sure if it is $99 USD as I am Australian but it is definitely within the price range of $100 - $120. )
Edit: This is just my opinion and I respect everyone’s opinion. Great and helpful video aswell!
I haven't used one myself but it definitely looks nicer. I almost bought it as an upgrade from the HORI, but decided to save up a little longer and get a used g29. I like the HORI for being so cheap, but for about $10 - $20 more the 458 wheel looks better.
@@ZerumTV agreed
Does it work for PC? It says it works on xbox only.
I have one it worked fine but now i can't center it
Think hori is ps5 compatible. Not sure about other yet.
hello i've been playing f1 with this steering wheel and i've noticed that sometimes the car downshifts when i don't downshift myself. I tried the command and this problem no longer happens can you help me?

I ordered the Xbox version of this wheel but do I need an adapter to put it in my USB input
Is there any drivers for this wheel? Because i can't use all of the buttons. PC reads this wheel as Xbox controller
I have a question, i broke my 4p connector that connects wheel with pedals. Do you still have this wheel and can u pls send me a color order?
Is this wheel or the Xbox version compatible with PC?
a door mat works great for the gas and brakes
The video does mention adjusting the deadzone but you can also adjust the sensitivity.
Deadzone: LS plus assign plus arrow up/down.
Sensitivity: DP plus assign plus arrow up/down.
Hope this helps you guys.
Great tip there. That might help the people who have to use it in PS4-N setting too.
I've been looking at getting a wheel ever since I got American Truck Simulator about a week ago. Everything here sounds nice but it still feels like it is quite a bit on the expensive side for my taste. I'm playing the game with a controller now and it works find but I still get some rather jerky movement that I'm not that happy with. I'm not looking for anything fancy, I use automatic transmission so I don't care about shifting, and honestly I don't even care that much about having nice pedals. All I really am looking for is something that will turn smoother than the controller does. Don't suppose anyone here as any experience with wheels cheaper than this Hori wheel? Good or bad I'd like to hear anything people have to say. If I don't find a cheaper option than this wheel then I don't know if I will bother with a wheel at all honestly.
Unfortunately the entire sim wheel market is really expensive right now. You might want to look around at some used options, I got a used Logitech and haven't had any issues with it yet.
If you re still looking there is a spirit of gamer one for about 70$ i think . You might want to look it up i didnt try it so i dont know much other thzn it s price .
Cheapest thing to do would be search used in your area. I picked up an old ps3 GameStop steering wheel that I've tested and also works on PC. Cost me a whole $10 😂
So if i sometime play euro truck simulator 2, f1 not pro, and sometime any racing games not pro games the wheel is good for me?
I’m buying one of these for £35 for Xbox I’m getting it for a cheap starter set up can it be used for drifting as I’ll be playing forza and carx
Is this something that only works for play stations? I want to use it on a windows computer.
What is the best deadzone and sensitivity for f1 2021
It’s like 168 dollars but if u buy used it can around from 68 to 95
Hey, I want one I saw a guy selling one for 38 euros and ima really scared to buy it as he said that the wheel doesn't respond when he put a USB in it on a windows 10 pc but he doesn't own a ps4 so he doesn't know if it works on it what should I do? I have a ps4 pro idk what to do
i have this wheel and i'd recomend better save some money and buy used logitech g27, g29 or thrustmaster t150 cause without force feedback it feels like some toy and not an actual wheel but if you dont have money even for these wheels then hori apex is probably the best choice
The hori overdrive for xbox is the same as this but xbox instead of playstation
Good review. I'm wanting a wheel that's quiet. But I like PC sims. I have a PS5 as well but game's seem to be better. I would like a ffb one but I think it might be too noisy as a game in the living room.
FFB can be quite loud so I don't blame you! The hori is pretty quiet, especially if you turn off vibration in the game you're playing.
It will make more noise than a regular controller, hard / fast shifting gets pretty loud, but you could just opt to drive automatics when you need to be incognito.
If FFB is within your budget, you could get a wheel that supports it, but turn off the FFB when you need to be quiet also.
@@ZerumTV Can you fully turn ffb off. As that would be great. Do the wheels make a noise while turning. I was considering the G29 but I've seen reviews on it being noisy. I could use ffb when in by myself and turn it off when the TV is on.
FFB can usually be disabled in the game settings, but check to make sure the game you're playing has that option (most pc sims should). I have a G29 and I've never noticed it to be particularly loud, but spirited driving certainly wont be silent. Really enjoy the wheel overall.
@@ZerumTV it's worrying to spend so much money without trying it out. I can only go on CZcams video's. I have considered the Hori wheel as I know it's cheap and cheerful. But it might give me a taste of what using a wheel is like. But not sure about those for PC game's
@@Bikertyke id recommend something like the thrustmaster tx, its an insanely good wheel, i know its quite a bit more expensive but its worth every penny, and since its not a geared motor in the wheelbase its not nearly as loud as a g29
Im new to sim racing and the TX has been an amazing wheel choice for sure 👍
if you play f1 and you want a cheap steering wheel get this wheel i have it and it actualy quite good
Exactly what I wanted to know! 🏴✊🏽
Will it work on ps5 f1 2021?

Save your money and get a Logitech g920/g29
Or
Thrustmaster tmx/t150
I agree, but for some people a $200+ investment is just too much for a controller. I bought a used g29 recently and have been loving it, but sometimes wonder if I play it enough to justify the cost.
Hello Can you tell me What cheap stand might fit well for the Apex gaming steering wheel?
And also does it work on laptop? please answer

Good Video.
But if you invest 120 bucks more (i know its hard smt) you got something with FFB
But i think for beginners/arcarde racing guys this is the perfekt wheel
I completely agree, I could never go back after getting used to FFB. I see them as serving two different needs though, like you said the hori is fine for some arcade type games. I could also see using it with some retro console emulators or something along those lines.
hey good stuff. just 1 question. i am playing GRAN TORISMO SPORT. I am up to GR2 professional races. I have come in 1st place 4 times already without a PlayStation wheel. do u think that it is possible to win races that are pretty tough with this HORI APEX WHEEL? the problem is my hands get tired. I HAD A STROKE 6 YEARS AGO & MY LEFT HAND IS ALWAYS NUMB, WEAK, GETS TIRED EASILY. especially from races with many hard turns. so can any1 tell me if i can beat fast cars on tracks that are not easy. all these cars i am racing are fast but i have 2 of the best one's in my garage. but like i said, I ALREADY WON 4. THEN FINISHED 2ND, 3RD IN ANOTHER. but they are difficult. PLEASE ANY INFORMATION WILL HELP. BY THE WAY I USE THE CONTRILER TO STEER AS OF NOW. almost left that out. peace out
I hope this works with PS5 and PC
I have read you can download new firmware for it. I’ve ordered one 🤦🏻♂️ so fingers crossed
yeah, i’ve got a pc does it work?
Yeah I bought it. Works on Forza Motorsport and F1 2021
You need to switch to PS4-S on top and then you have to adjust dead zones and settings a lot to make it respond properly. But when it’s setup it’s a great bargain for the money.
You have to download firmware for PS5
@@Jcoxy2k10how do I download it?
For someone who is too young to drive and is looking for something cheap and fun, would you recommend this?
yes when i didnt have my license yet i used to use this wheel lmaoo but the pedals are really from real life
Dose it work on ps5?
Why when I flick my to ps4 -s the ps4 say it can’t find a controller
Could I add an external manual shifter
I can‘t connect the wheel on my ps5 . Does anyone know how to connect it?
Ive been so confuced for ages with one setting where you can either have 180 degree rotation of the wheel or 270 but i cant seem to change to 270 does anyone know?
If you hold down assign and L2 it should switch back to 270, it will light up green for a few seconds to indicate that it worked. Hopefully that sorts it out for you.
Hello i am interested in this wheel and i wanna put a single question: It suports the newer games like f1 2020 and ets2? Do you have an idea? Thank u
It should work for those games! Some people have reported that the vibration isn't working for them in the PS4-S setting, which might be an issue. Like any usb steering wheel you will probably have to spend a bit of time messing with the settings both on the wheel and in-game. Give yourself a day or two just to experiment and see what works best with your games and hardware. As always, make sure to keep any original packaging in case you need to return it. Cheers!
@@ZerumTV thank u man u won my subscribe keep up the good work and have the best!

I decided to buy this one as my first racing wheel and maybe, if I like it very much, sell it for about 70% of the original price to buy myself the Logitech G29.
So, what did you do . I m undecided if i should get this new for 450dt ( 150$ ) or the used g29 for 780dt ( 250$ ) . I dont play racing games that much i just hop into open worldracing games and drive i liked forza horizon 5 aloot which made me wanna buy a wheel . But my racibg fans friend tells me it s useless to get one without force feedback .

FLASHFIRE Suzuka 900R
I think you set it up wrong because irl steering angle doesn’t match up with the game, I have the same wheel and it doesn’t do that
I'm pretty sure that ANY wheel is better than a keyboard
For ETS 2 it's quite perfect for me but the wheel attachement is soooooo fucked. :/ Suction cups easly loose the contact and a clamp screw doesn't even prevent the wheel from falling down. It's not as comfortable as it could be... at least as I do it correctly.

Mostly Project Cars 2 and NASCAR Heat 5, though I really want to play the new Forza!

I like the wheel itself but the pedals are terrible... they're in such a weird angle that you cant use them while being at a desk in my opinion. U have to really lay down, to not break your left foot
