    I remember being 12 years old, on the sofa with my dad, watching this live. When Sean hit that shot, we jumped up and started screaming.

    It's amazing to think of the Spurs from this time, and then look at the respect and love the Spurs get now. Spurs have earned their spot to be talked about alongside the Celtics and Lakers and Bulls

    I remember this, great game. I was really happy for Sean especially after all his kidney issues.

    • @jonathanakerele8006
      @jonathanakerele8006 Před 7 lety

      Yeah that kidney illness made this play that much sweeter because I don't know if he had gotten the transplant from his brother Noel at this point but I know that the sickness was talked about during the playoffs on NBA on NBC with Hannah Storm and Ahmad Rashad during game highlights that season. Anyway, his coping with that illness during this playoff run and nailing that shot was kind of ironic given that this came in 1999, two years after Michael Jordan weathered a stomach virus against the Utah Jazz in Game 5 on the road with his 38 points to go up 3-2 and set themselves up to close them out in Game 6 at home. I think players fighting illnesses during game action get a lot of heroic press in the media despite how dangerous it can be pending the situation since the player's health can still be at risk even as they choose to play to be there for their team and the fans.

    I love it. I was at this game, getting ready to leave,watched this shot from the stoop at the top of the stairs. The hang time was unbelievable, it looked like slow motion. The crowd was deafening, playing in a cavernous arena called the Alamodome, that was intended for football .I quickly ran down to my seat again to watch the game's end. Championship # 5 coming to my Spurs shortly, sorry LeBron (not)

    Sean Elliott overcame the enormity of the moment, several challenging basketball factors on the play (body position, the opposing defense, etc.) and major health issues to give the Spurs a big lift on the franchise's first championship climb. A heroic effort from an inspirational player, to say the least. Thank you Sean for all of your contributions to the organization, and for helping to get the "golden" ball rolling.

    It almost brings tears to my eyes seeing the celebration that ensued as that shot sailed through the net. This is the loudest I've ever heard a crowd. Pure pandemonium. Many younger Spurs fans had never been so close to a championship (Spurs had a 3-1 lead evaporate in '79 and dominated in the WCF by Houston in the mid '90s).
    That was just a massive crowd - I've tried to find the official attendance - but was probably over 35,000.

    You're correct, they typically do. As a matter of fact, the Spurs' current home - the AT&T Center - holds just under 19,000 fans. But from 1993-2002, the Spurs played home games in San Antonio's 65,000 seat NFL-grade stadium, the Alamodome. The court was placed in one of the end zones, lower level seating was constructed to be court level, and the rest of the stadium was curtained off from view (behind the TV cameras). The Spurs' playoff run in 1999 drew crowds in excess of 35,000.

    It is only fitting to look for this clip on Memorial day. I was at that game, ready to leave and beat the crowd home. We paused on the stoop on the top of the stairs, watched that shot with what seemed to be iincredably long hang time, drop in and the roar of the crowd was deafning! The story goes that in the huddle before that shot Sean Elliot told Mario Ellie to look for him because he had "one more shot left in the gun". So he did and the rest is history. Go, Spurs, Go!
