How does your city compare in terms of costs? Are you more expensive? Or Cheaper? We're really curious to find out :)
Haha Norway is crazy expensive!!! We spent $20 on a pint when we were there 😂😂
Costa Rica is very similar and we are far from being a developed country 😓
Claudia Aguilar
Where you recommend in Costa Rica to visit ?
I have always wanted to go to Costa Rica
Thanks
Watching this from my cramped NYC (Brooklyn) Apartment. Yea, I might actually save money moving to NZ lol.
Hahahaha dame here we are saving up to live in a cramped nyc apartment for a month 😂
NZ is about quality of life. The trade-off is a high cost of living. I'd still take NZ any day. I've lived in the US and Australia, and I always end up back in NZ. The high cost of living is worth the quality of life. A lot of Kiwis take NZ for granted but it's a lot better than almost any other country in the world.
💯 with this comment 😊👌 you've summed it up well. When you travel around the world you quickly realise how special our home is.
New Zealand is a truly great country
@@dahalofreeek as an American I’m curious as to why you feel that way
@@dahalofreeek be grateful, im from Malaysia and trust me were like 80 times worse than you lot
@@its_garcia Probably because their country ranks as one of the highest on the World Happiness Index.
Your introduction covers a comprehensive range of accommodation and food. It is simple and clear. Thank you for sharing.
Mum why is your English so good these days 😂❤
When we left Auckland for Sydney a couple of decades years ago, Auckland was dirt cheap compared to the rest of the world. When we left Sydney for London 15 or so years ago, Auckland and Sydney were both still dirt cheap and seen as backwater countries compared to the rest of the world. But now that the NZ and Aus dollar has increased in strength and the increased globalisation of the world, Auckland and Sydney are more expensive to live than most of the world (especially food). I actually find living in London and Europe and most of North America cheaper than Auckland or Sydney. NZ and Aus are now seen as "safe lifestyle resort" style countries.
Totally agree with you paws. Many if my friends in America talk about how housing is a lot more affordable in their state compared to Auckland. But at the same time San Fran and NY continue to be much more costly vs even New Zealand. Things have really sky rocketed here over the last few years especially the food and transportation costs. Thanks for the insight 👍😊
Generally I thought London is much more expensive in terms of housing than Auckland and Sydney?
You're right London is still more expensive for housing. However it is considerably cheaper for everything else.
I still ask, why tf are everything do expensive? Answers for myself was that the government has all resources for advertising none for the accommodation of these people that were meant to be happy to be here 🙄
15 years ago Auckland was still one of the worst around for house prices relative to income.
Even though this was filmed two years ago, it still holds value today. Thank you for the comprehensive content! This is exactly what I needed
Thanks Jess thank you for watching 😁✌

Hello hello Aaron and Wera glad you found this useful, hopefully if you do come to NZ it will help with all the budgeting 👍 don't let the expenses put you off NZ is amazing 😊🌱
Love this video ... Im in Melbourne and my mum is always telling people that the cost of living in NZ is very high compared to here. Now I can tell people to check this vid out since you elaborate more on it. 👍💛
Hello CaityB thank you glad you found the video informative. Have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by and dropping a comment 😁👋
Great video guys, I found this video so informative! 👍🏻 It was also very helpful to see the graphs/diagrams you made to break down the cost of living in Auckland. ✔️ Your piano playing is amazing Peter, you should include more of it on the channel! 😃🎵
Hahahaha Chelsea sorry to disappoint but I was literally button bashing while the auto player was going 😂 glad you enjoyed the video though we have been really enjoying reading comments from around the world as people compare their cities to Auckland 😊🖖
The editorial level is getting better and better, and I hope to see more wonderful content. Good job :)

I've lived in Auckland and my life, and yet this video was so so helpful and informative - espesh for a Uni student whose just finished their degree and working to move out. I love your style of videos and editing as well! New sub!
Hello thank you so much for joining the community and also for the encouraging words 😁👋 always good to rep your home town. N good luck for moving out its one of the hardest steps!
Thanks for making the video. Very helpful.
by far the best breakdown
I love the examples ! Very cool I didn’t know a 1 bedroom was so freaking cheap!!!!!! Tokyo sucks!!!!!
Thanks for the perspective Sundai! I guess compared to cities like Tokyo and nyc Auckland would be considered cheap. But when we consider to other countries in Asia it's pretty expensive 😅
He says like 400-600$ a week though! It's about 900 a month where I am
i live in japan and find new zealand to be far more expensive. unless you have a well paying job you will likely have to live with other people.
I though south Africa was bad but wow 600 gets you a good spacious 2 bedroom
2400 a month is not cheap dude
Thanks for creating this video! 👏🏻
No worries hope you found it useful 😁🤙
I live in Auckland, but in a few years I will be moving out and I found this information to be very useful when planning my future. Cheers mate!
Thank you! Made this video with the intention of it being useful for people who want to visit Auckland but glad it's helpful for locals too. Cheers for watching and dropping a comment 😁👋
Your New Zealand guides are awesome!
Thanks guys! We're pretty happy with the way these videos came out too. In the end keeping our content more varied works well for us as we like mixing things up 😁✌
Fantastic info and video Peter, lovely edit too
Thanks Senja 😊👌 New Zealand is a beautiful country but you just need to be careful of the costs of things before coming to make sure budgets are ok 👍
This was awesome, I'm feeling a lil overwhelmed at the prospect of bringing my family down to Auckland in the new year with the cost and considering currency exchange etc...
All good I'm glad you found this video useful 👍 moving here with the whole family is definitely a daunting task but if you can land a job in the right industry it makes covering living expenses a lot easier 🤞😊
Great video! Thanks for sharing.
New subsciber here! LOL this was such a good insight on what life is like at present in NZ. I left to come live here in Australia last year, and I have noticed prices have increased back home. Good to see kiwis share their thoughts on these topics - makes me miss home hardout lol keep up the awesome vlogs Peter and Yen! Blessings to you both!
Heya Veni thank you for joining the community glad you enjoyed the video 👌😁 Are you finding life in Australia is more expensive than New Zealand? We find that we get super homesick as soon as we leave new Zealand too but yeah prices are really getting up there these days 😥
@@PeterandYen yes I do miss NZ because of family and the lifestyle but I feel that life is a little cheaper here in Australia. Just can't believe how housing costs have soared over the years. Keep up with the informative content - it's always good to see what NZ is up to nowadays lol 👌💯
This is very helpful and informative 😊 thank you 😊
Thank you for watching and leaving us a comment Nivea 😁👍 we made this video to help people who are interested in visiting New Zealand. Have a great weekend 😊
Great video mate!!! Very informative thanks a lot
No worries thank you so much for watching our video 😊✌ we have a bunch of local new Zealand videos. Hope it helps you if you're ever planning a visit here 😁
I grow up in New Zealand Wellington and then moved to London and all I can say is that renting an apartment is expensive but everything else in London is cheaper, food and transport but new Zealand its way too expensive for everything. I'm glad I moved to London. 😊
Hello claire thanks for the insights from London 😊👋 will need to take the trip over one day and see what it's like over there.
@@PeterandYen It's a shithole, don't waste time with london.
@Crypto Hunter it's a shithole for anyone who doesn't earn at least 4k a month. And even if you do earn that much it still very unsafe city, even in most expensive areas there is gangs, killings and so on, media just doesn't report any. I know because I work in security in the most expensive area.
@Crypto Hunter £4k, I never been in south africa so I can't comment on that. I only speak from personal experience.
Crypto Hunter it’s a shithole for people who aren’t white because it’s racist as hell
cool vlog! very informative vlog, keep up the good work!
Thanks for checking this one out bro. Hope you get a chance to come to Auckland New Zealand one day 😉👌
excellently presented video, factual and concise. well done
Thanks David!

That is a very useful video! Thank you so much!
Hi Amelea 😁🖖 thank you glad you found the video useful it was our goal to show make something that people could use before they come to New Zealand. Hope you have an amazing 2019!
nice to see your becoming way more relaxed in your videos (natural) keep it up homie :)
Hey bro yeah they gradually get more and more natural. Still not fully letting out all the personality yet but it'll get there. Cheers for checking these videos out man! 👊
This video is so cool! lol. The breakdown of everything is so informal! lol but man gas prices still got me shaking my head lol
Hey Mia 😊🖖 glad you liked the break down yeah I know right it's getting kinda ridiculous now. Catching up to a bottle of milk prices 😢
Hey, that is a lot of detailed information. Obviously going to help me when I visit New Zealand. Thanks. ☺️
Yooo awesome to hear 😉👌 this video is for everyone thinking about travelling to New Zealand hopefully it will actually help with your budgeting 🖖 don't forget to give us a shout when you're here 👍
For sure mate. Thanks!
amazing video! so informative
Wow you did a great job breaking all of this down! It seems more expensive there than the USA but the quality of living seems to be better. I am so jelly that you can play the piano >.< I've always wanted to learn. All that food looked SO good, especially the egg that you cut into. Being able to drink the water out of the tap is really convenient, I would love to be able to do that!
PS. love your titles and aerial shots!
😂😂😂 unfortunately the piano playing was me just pushing random buttons while an automatic song was playing. Never too late to learn how to play though you should do it 😎👌 yes absolutely I think it's more expensive than quite a few states in three US relatively speaking. But you are absolutely right the quality of living here is really good, work life balance and cleanliness to name a few 😊👍
Super informative 👌thank you so much 💓
Wow! What a great breakdown, very detailed, and covering all the necessities for living.
We live in the Bay Area (Sunnyvale, California). We’re about 40 miles south of San Francisco. It is very expensive to live in this area because we’re right in the heart of Silicon Valley. Pay rates are higher here compared to other areas, which helps a little bit, to pay for accommodations 😬.
People from other areas often called us crazy for living in the Bay Area, because of the cost.
We also have the best weather in the country, so we pay for that too😰
Ideally, for renters (like us), you rent from a family owned apartment. Rent is usually cheaper compared to corporate owned properties.
Hopefully, we can buy a house soon. That’s the ultimate ideal situation 🤞🏽
We've had a few people comment from the states and it seems some of the more popular cities in America as well as some of the European countries are a lot more expensive than New Zealand. Really interesting findings and you're absolutely right where there are high paying jobs there are high paying costs hahaha 😅
This is so helpful, thank you
Glad you found it useful! 🙂👍
Really useful info for ppl or someone looking to stay in AKL... dope stuff mate! And water in NZ.. yes, straight from the tap!
Hey bro thanks! Yeah hopeful this video will help out those looking to come to Auckland New Zealand with their budgeting. Though the video will prolly show things are expensive here hopefully people see the quality of life is awesome too 😊👌
So informative! Thank you🤩
You're welcome 😁 thank you for watching hope you got a good idea of the cost of things in New Zealand 🌿
Planning to visit Auckland in the near future. Gotta say your videos are really helpful and I can see all the hard work you put behind them. Have to save up a little more with how expensive everything is 😂
Thanks Jose! Glad this video was useful to you. We've been having a blast making videos from our home country whether it's food or activity related. If you're in town let's do a colab video if you're keen 😁✌
@@PeterandYen yeah would be awesome! I'll let you know when I'm in NZ.
Sweet bro sounds good!
thanks a lot Mr. Peter your video has given me a lot of info.
Hi Hassam thank you so much for watching 😁👍 hope you get a chance to visit New Zealand 🌿🇳🇿 appreciate you leaving a comment ✌
thanks for your reply I'm trying to get there. I like your video and it helped me a lot to know about NZ, will come and enjoy. I appreciate your effort to give info.
Awesome detailed vid Pete. It is pretty pricey comin back home... im comin frm melbs but an orig aklder lol.. but still... great food.. vibes & fam n mates really makes it all worthwhile. A good thing to note also is that for accomo for travelers browse thru air bnb as opposed to hotels/motels.. so many kool kiwi's offerin up their nice homes at affordable prices too, im currently browsin thru em atm😳.. God bless & keep up the great vids 😊
Hello Liv thank you glad you enjoyed it 😊 yes it definitely it pricey living in Auckland these days but you are totally right you have to weigh that up vs the awesome vibes that you can only get in New Zealand. That's why no matter where we go we always end up missing home. Air bnb can definitely save you some money if you're staying for a while. Hope you have an awesome week ahead 😊👌
Great vid and very detailed
Thanks mate! We made this so people could see first hand how much things cost in New Zealand so they can properly plan their trip and figure out how much they need to spend. 😁✌
Wow guys this was really informative, love it! Ughhh petrol is giving me a head ache lol, highest I've seen is $2.30 something 😨
- btw can you and Yen do a Q&A video in the future lol
Hello Harriet thought we would cover off one of the biggest struggles all of us kiwis live with on a day to day basis. After travelling around a few countries it's kinda tough knowing you live in one of the most expensive cities in the world 😅 we should do a q&a sometime I had all these ideas at one point but ended up doing food episodes... need to get back on that 😁
Accurate information. I wish I had your video before I moved to Tauranga from USA.
Thank you glad you agree with the information ✌😊
Thanks for your help, dude!
No worries 😁👌
Well I really like how you went into detail with everything. I can't believe that gas prices are so high over there. I guess it does make sense since you guys are so far away from everything LOL. Your parents was really nice and I think it's very interesting that it is pretty much the same cost to get a townhouse 10 to get an actual house. Thank you so much for the detailed information
Hey guys a lot of people actually live in campervans here too 😊 not so many bus conversions. But yeah filling the petrol will cost you a bit 😉 if you ever come to New Zealand hope this helps with the budgeting 👍
Excellent video, v informative and very well presented
Thank you glad you enjoyed the video and hope it's useful for you 👍
Yes it was v helpful, plz make a video for immigrants how they can survive, jobs, lifestyle and future prospect
Wow this is awesome and so informative but the price wow 😮 the house was beautiful I hope jobs pay good out there lol great video my friend ❤️❤️
Thank you glad you enjoyed the video 😊👌 many Aucklands complain that the wages being paid here means it is really hard to get by and to be honest it is quite true. Prices are pretty high here but the trade off is there are a lot of beautiful scenery and there is a great quality of life. Thanks for watching ❤
Great informative video!
Thank you hope it helps you with your budgeting if you ever come to New Zealand 😊👍
in the mood to pack my bags and move to Auckland right now hahah amazing video!!!! :)
Hahahaha yeah wouldn't it be great to just pack your bags and go somewhere totally new 🤔 one day soon that'll be us 😊 hope you've been well looking forward to another project from ya 🤞
Hopefully there will be one at the end of this week! took a bit of a break bc of upcoming finals, excited to see more of your videos!!! :)
Really thank you for your informative video thank you
Thank you glad you found it useful 😁👍
Very informational ✨
Thank you for watching hope you got some good ideas on cost of Auckland for when you ever decide to visit 👍😀
great stuff...so detailed
Hello thank you for dropping by and leaving a comment. We tried to make this one as detailed as possible so people could get a good idea about how much they need to holiday or live here. Glad you enjoyed it 😁✌
Was very interesting to hear about prices there!
Hello thank you hope you found this useful if you ever visit New Zealand hopefully it will give you an idea of how much you're going to need to put away 😊👍
Hi thanx for the information everything was very clear and it was very beneficial thanx again
Glad you found it useful! 🙂👍
Nothing like watching you guys stuff at 1.20 am haha. Those little drawings are dope and I didn't know you play the piano like a boss. Nice stuff bro! Possibly a theme song coming any time soon? Haha. And damn it sure isn't cheap there. I try to eat mostly organic foods too so groceries would be through the roof haha. I guess you just have to make sure you're ballin' hard income wise ey to keep up with all those prices ey? Anyway it does all of us some good to struggle for a bit so we can appreciate the abundance more. As long as we can get out the struggle. But you guys apartment and your parents place look niceee
Hey bro 😂😂😂 truths need to be told... I just turned on the auto song function and pretended to play 😂 yeah man New Zealand is not a cheap place to live at all basically everything is pretty expensive and I think that's the cost of living in a remote paradise. A lot of food is very organic though and costs similar to regular food. We've been appreciating and struggling for years hahahaha lots of hard work does pay off though we are living pretty comfy 😊 blessed. Have a good one man 🖖
hahah you cheeky bastard! I was watching on my phone otherwise I might have caught you out lol. Nice man, I hope to visit this remote paradise some day. maybe shoot a music vid there! Some sick locations I bet
Amazing locations here man would be perfect for your music videos 😊👍 would also be so cool to meet you in person I think we would have a lot do catch up on 👊😁
@@PeterandYen word bro, word! Yeah for sure I'm down my man
I’ve always wondered how much it is to live there. Whenever I watch your videos, I’m always like damn it looks frickin beautiful in New Zealand. Love how you broke all the costs down my friend. This was super cool to watch and compare. 👍🏼❤️🤗 PS Omg you play the piano so beautifully 😍
Hello hello 😊 unfortunately I wish I could play the piano that well but I was just pushing buttons while the auto music played hahahaha. You are absolutely right New Zealand does look like a paradise but it can be a lil expressive though as it is so far from the rest of the world 😥
Peter and Yen hahahhahaa omg! It looked real lmfao 🤣🤣🤣
Looks like you guys have a great view from your place!
Yes it was an awesome apartment but now we've actually made a few changes to our living arrangements this year as we are planning something big 😁😎
Peter and Yen Ohhh exciting! Can’t wait to hear about whatever that something is 🔥🔥
Fantastic upload...New-Zealand is costly in term of living....but one can enjoy the infusstructure there........good to meet u
Hey mate yeah New Zealand is definitely a bit costly to live in. But you are absolutely right there are a lot of positives living here. Beautiful nature, stable government nice infrastructure. It is a great country 😊👍
Ayeee this was awesome and so accurate! Trav and I pay similar for all those things and we’re in an apartment 🙌🏼 except for water we don’t pay the fixed only the water in and out - that’s about $20ish a month. Also petrol where we live is about $2.30L 😨 nice vid! Super informative!
Hey guys awesome to see more kiwi content creators 😊 gonna come check out your videos too ❤ glad to get you to validate our research. I got the water bill averaged from my parents and my friend who lives in st Luke's. Lil tip south Auckland has cheaper petrol than central 😉👍
I have always heard NZ is a little more expensive but had no idea!! That gas price is really high but everything else seemed a little more reasonable! Loved the information and great job on showcasing! After watching all the food, I think that is a little more then we pay, actually quite a bit more haha
😅 gas and food tends to be the stand out expensive items in New Zealand. A few people these days have decided to live full time in RVs now reminds me of some people I know hahahaha 😊👌 hope this video gives you some budgeting info in case you ever decide to come over 😎
Amazing video!
Thank you Usain glad you enjoyed the video and hope you found it useful 😊👍
Very good and interesting video my friend.
Thank you man 😊 It's been a while I need to come see what adventures you've been on too! 😁
Super helpful!!
Thanks for doing a comment glad you are able to use the info 😊👍
wow that was a great content well I am not in a wish to move to NZ but as a Food Vlogger will visit someday over there and with your video I have an idea what would it cost me for 2 weeks roughly....Thanks for that
Hey mate thanks for the feedback! Yes as a foodie this is a great destination lots of variety and ingredients are super fresh 😉👌 hope you found the video useful for your budgeting 👍
Very informative video.. Thanks for sharing
Thank you hope you got some good ideas of how expensive everything is here 😁✌ update on fuel it is now $2.50 per litre
Peter and Yen Thanks bro👍
That was interesting to see how it compares to other place around the world
Hey bro yeah the comments section has been super insightful to read as well. It seems like there are a few European countries and American states that are even more expensive than New Zealand and Australia can be a lot cheaper or similar depending which city you're in.
Very informative!! great job :) c/t
Thank you hope you found this useful if you ever plan on visiting Auckland ❤
Great video bruv
Cheers ✌
Daaaaaamn that is expensive petrol you guys have!! lol Very nice vid and put together really well!! awesome work! I don't think my family would survive in New Zealand, a lot pricier compared to Aus.
Hahahaha learnt it all from you and your informative vlogs hangry and Andy 👌 yeah petrol is a bit of a shocker here. I would walk but everything is like 10 to 20km away too hahahaha 😭
8:15 I remember when I was in NZ for some months I took it for granted to drink from the tap and I was really unsure after the first time because for me it tasted a lot like chlorine. My mates told me it tasted normal and not like chlorine. Maybe its because im spoiled with swiss tap-water. I later learned, the more i went away from Auckland (and probably the other bigger cities) the fresher the water tasted. So if you're used to really fresh water, you should be prepared to the city-water. You can drink it though and you will get used to it pretty fast.
Upside: When I came back to Switzerland, it was the best thing ever to drink the super-clear swiss water again ;)
Ooooo swiss tap water sounds awesome. Tap water is definitely something you take for granted living in your own country. Then you go overseas and realize most the world has to buy bottled water.
If you want tap water that taste like it came from a swimming pool you should visit Australia everyone drinks bottled water here
ilRegulator You can’t taste the caesium ,strontium if it happens to be in your N.Hemisphere water though.God Bless.
thanks, very interesting video.
Thank you for watching Oliver! Appreciate your comment too 👍😊
"Make me feel broke just talking about it"
Man i miss my home country lol
Hahahaha yeah New Zealand will always be home to us no matter how broke we get from high petrol just gonna have to walk 😂🤔 😅
Thank you so much 🙏🏻..!
Thanks for dropping by the channel Yatik hope you found the video useful 😁👍
Thanks for the video!
I can use this video as a reference to decide to live in CBD or slightly outside CBD as I am about to move up to Auckland :)
All the best mate 😁👍
OMG those drone shots throughout the video 😍😍 Auckland is stunning... but WOW paying that much for petrol and coffee ... Also had no idea there was a difference between an apartment and a unit until right now 😂
Hahahaha in us the wording for apartment and unit might be different but in New Zealand there is a big difference 😉 yeah petrol food can cost quite a bit but the quality of life is really good 😊
Well, thanks for your video, it was super interesting. I'm Italian and living in NZ is my dream, but it seems pretty hard, 'cause living is really expensive down there. I just hope job pays very well. Thank you by the way
Thank you for dropping a comment. Minimum wage in New Zealand is fairly high and skilled roles pay even better to make up for the cost of living.
Good information good filming
Thank you!
Peter you have given good information but still will be looking ahead with Newzealand
Thank you 🙏 very much I will visit there soon
No worries thank you for watching 😁✌
I lived in the south west of the UK for 3 years and I always thought the UK is the most expensive until I visited New Zealand. I stayed in Auckland for a few months and God I was shocked! Everything is so expensive and sometimes even more than the UK. At least in the UK you can get cheaper food and a few other things if you check carefully. But I don't regret my visit to NZ, it was the most rewarding trip ever. NZ is so beautiful, unique in its own way, rich and vibrant.
Thanks for the message Jeena your post is exactly what this video is trying to say 😁 beautiful but a lil pricey
Thanks for the update. I guess I wont be coming home anytime soon lol cheers from Indonesia
Hahahaha bro New Zealand is awesome but so is Indonesia. That's a hard one... good food at cheap prices is a really difficult thing to leave behind 😥🤔😅
Cool comprehensive video, guys. Awesome thumbnail too.
At least it's not as expensive as Perth in general. Perth is one of the most expensive cities in the world.
Housing prices in Perth are some of the highest in Australia too.
But petrol is way more expensive in NZ than the average $1.50/L in Perth. Japan costs about ¥150/L.
Renting my 2 bedroom apartment with a kitchen and no living room costs ¥45,000 a month just one stop from Osaka.
As you know eating out in Japan can be very cheap but it's super expensive in Perth.
Yo Lin this is very important topic for those wanting to visit New Zealand so I really wanted to make sure this video is really comprehensive. Never knew Perth was so expressive. Maybe it's from all that mining money over the years. Osaka rentals sounds like dream come true way better than a 2 bedroom in Tokyo!!! Thank you for that info really good to know 👍🤔 gets is thinking about living in Osaka!
Petrol is actually ridiculous right now... especially since pretty much everyone drives as well 😥
I lived in Perth for a bit. The cheaper rentals were $400 a week. Cost $50 a week to get into town for work on public transport. $10 for a basic pint of cider at a cafe... Just off the top of my head. I'd say supermarket prices weren't too different from NZ.
Hahah yooo i feel you on the gas prices 🤣 #brokeashell hahah ! Love the vid bro !!! Defs needed for those moving over...at the end of the day NZ = expensive 🤣🤣🤣
Hey bro thank you glad you enjoyed this one 😂👍 fellow kiwis will understand this struggle that we're all going through 😅 but hopefully this video will help people thinking about coming over with planning their travel budgets. Have a great Sunday fams 👌
a nice kitchen, really useful
Thanks that's my parents kitchen very big and nice 😉👌
I miss nz 😍 so much , hopefully back soon
Really interesting! I'm just about to move back to NZ after living overseas for 15 years (in Paris then in Montreal). I'm bracing for the shock of the cost of living. But I'm looking forward to being near the sea again. Also, it may seem strange, but I'm looking forward to the weather. Summer in Paris and Montreal is very, very hot (30+ degrees is common), and winter in Montreal is very, very cold (you can actually get -30).
Thanks glad you found the video interesting, hope it helps with the price shock 😁✌ did you enjoy your time living in Paris? Montreal looks great from the videos I've watched.
@@PeterandYen, yes, both Paris and Montreal are great, for different reasons. Paris probably is the most beautiful city in the world if your thing is architecture. Also, there's no shortage of things to do there. Montreal's like that, too, only more "small(er) town" in feel. Montreal feels much more like Auckland. But the winter is hard. It's not so much the cold as the snow and the ice. It's really easy to slip and seriously injure yourself if you're not careful, and it's tiring having to be so careful all the time. I'm looking forward to just being in flip flops, even in winter!
At least montreal is "very very" cheap
@@Redditaurus, I know that there are people who struggle in Montreal, too! But just as a comparison, what I earn here in Auckland is roughly the same as what I would earn in Montreal for the same job, but the average Auckland rent is *double* the average Montreal rent. I really don't know how people on lower incomes survive here. Also, people pay income tax on the first dollar they earn (which isn't the case with Quebec or Federal Canadian income tax).
@@idontknowwhyihavesubcribers hiya! Can i ask a question? I'm looking to move to NZ, but i come from a place where 30+ degrees is pretty normal. Is NZ that much colder? Is it hard to adjust?
I find that literally the only option is to have a great paying job (100k+) or a business that will bring in the same amount just in order to save money after paying for accommodation, food and transport.
About right I think the household income needs to be around 100k as all of the essentials take a big chunk of your money thanks for your input Matthew!
Really appreciate this! I guess the higher living wage, especially compared to the UK would balance out the general expense of living costs.
Minimum wage is quite high, however salaries and wages on the whole are extremely low when compared to the cost of living, It does not balance out, you're welcome.
When I lived in New Zealand grocery shopping for me was a struggle coming from the States and even Canada were things are so much more cheaper, maybe not the best for you, but I could afford to be unhealthy LOL.
With that said I'd move back today! I miss the laid back life there.
I used to live on Herald Island.
Yeah that's a tough one even though things might be a lil expensive in New Zealand but you definitely live a much better quality of life even for things you might take for b granted like the fresh air makes a huge difference. ❤🇳🇿
But there are also things that are much cheaper in NZ. E.g. Car Insurance, Health Insurance, Medicine
Aotearoa & Hawai'i are comparable in regards to the cost of living. The only thing is HI is slightly more expensive than NZ overall, except for transportation (public transport, petrol, etc.) and clothing. Food prices are high in HI since most of it has to be shipped from the U.S. mainland. Homes in the Hawaiian suburbs tend to be smaller in living space compared to NZ suburbs since space is limited being on smaller islands than the North Island and South Island. Hawai'i and Aotearoa do share a common Polynesian culture and the nature in both "countries" are breathtakingly beautiful. The price to live in paradise, right? I wouldn't mind living in NZ even if it's for a temporary stay. Thank goodness there is direct flights from HNL to AKL!
Aloha thank you so much for the detailed post. Yen and I are actually considering Hawaii as one of the travel destinations for 2020 so this was super useful. Really want to try some of the og poke stores. Good to know how we should be budgeting our money. Sounds like it's gonna overall cost us a bit more than a new Zealand holiday which is all good as you say it's the cost of staying in paradise and in my opinion totally worth every dollar. Looking forward to experiencing some Hawaiian culture 😁❤
i live in australia and i have been thinking of moving to new zealand and starting my own family.
