"Your suffering will be legendary, even in HELL!"
Fun Fact: The word Cenobite means a member of a monastic order.
Eagle Eye Fact: When Kirsty (Ashley Laurence) goes to put the photo of Pinhead (Doug Bradley) in her pocket, she completely misses it and the shot shows the photo just sliding down her blazer
Casting Notes Fact: Oliver Smith who played skinless Frank in the original due to his skinny frame (allowing the body makeup to be realistic) reprised his role along with two extra roles as Browning, the mental patient with delusional parasitosis, and as the skinless figure Kirsty sees in the hospital who writes in blood: "I Am In Hell Help Me"
Movie Magic Fact: Due to Kenneth Cranham being unable to sit in the rig required for the Channard Cenobite, he only appears as the character in close-up shots, with stuntman Bronco McLoughlin playing him the rest of the time. Pinhead in the pillar that rises from the mattress at the end of the film was not played by Doug Bradley but rather by makeup effects artist Geoffrey Portass.
Such Sights Fact: Clive Barker had developed elaborate back-stories for the Cenobites in the first film, though their origins were never explored. In this film, he wanted to make sure that, at the very least, the audience understood that the Cenobites were once human, and that their own vices lead to their becoming demons. This element was meant to underline the story of Frank (Oliver Smith) and Julia (Clare Higgins) and their corruption by lust, with the latter intended to become the ultimate villain of the series. Pinhead (Doug Bradley), however, proved much more popular with audiences, and thus became the center point in further sequels.
