'Black Hole of Calcutta, scene of an incident on June 20, 1756, in which a number of Europeans were imprisoned in Calcutta (now Kolkata) and many died. The Europeans were the remaining defenders of Calcutta following the capture of the city by the nawab (ruler) Sirāj al-Dawlah, of Bengal, and the surrender of the East India Company’s garrison under the self-proclaimed governor of Bengal, John Z. Holwell. The incident became a cause célèbre in the idealization of British imperialism in India and a subject of controversy.'
(This is from Wikipedia so obviously consult other sources for more accuracy. The phrase Black Hole of Calcutta entered British English afterwards as a term for an unpleasantly full and hot room:. However I haven't heard it in anyone younger than my late grandparents generation- memories fade)

Excellent thoughtful reaction. I enjoyed it! Can't wait for you to watch Emma (2020) and hear your reaction. Or to watch the P&P movie from 2005 and tell us what you think about it in comparison to the 1995 series.

When are you going to learn that every movie your wife has suggested you have loved and given some of your highest ratings to?
    You should watch Beaches!
    Listen to your wife!

This my favorite version. The movie is good but the main actors are a bit old for their parts.

I love Northhanger Abbey! I like both versions, but from the consensus of everyone else I've heard of who's seennit, the newer movie is the best version. Can't wait to see what you think of whichever version you choose to watch.

It was fun watching you watch this version of Sense and Sensibility. There was a bit too much "I think you're swell", but all in all, you did a good job reacting. I liked how you got into the story. There is another, even more beautiful (although shorter) version of Sense and Sensibility, directed by Ang Lee, in 1995. But since you are only doing Jane Austen once a year, I guess it will be a while before you get around to that one! Thanks for the laughs.
