    In case you haven’t met me, my name is Natali Edmonds and I am a board certified geropsychologist. That means that I am a clinical psychologist who specializes in working with older adults. One day, while hiking a trail, I came up with the idea for Careblazers and I decided to see if posting videos online could provide help to the many other Careblazers in the world who don’t get to have help come directly to them in their homes. I hope that this work helps you in some way on your caregiving journey.

    Yes, I have dealt with this many times with my mother, it is amazing what UTI's do to dementia patients....her diabetes shoots sky high, she gets very very confused more so than normal, talks about crazy things that she wouldn't normally talk about....so yes, it needs to be dealt with immediately.

    Both of my parents had severe reactions to UTI's. I learned so much living through dementia 2x. I wouldn't wish it on anyone !!

    This was good,,,I am one of those that had frequent UTIs...I started using Witch Hazel in the rectum area after going and it seems to have cured the problem of recurring UTIs. This is the only thing that I could relate to the UTIs stopping. I have gone from having them frequently to not having one in the past 3 years...😃

      This is very interesting. How much witch hazel do you use?

      @rhondaf.4152 I have ulcerative colitis and fissures. I clean my rectum with wipes soaked in witch hazel, apple cider vinegar, and aloe vera juice. No it does burn at all.

    Thank you so much for all your amazing, informative & supportive videos covering all issues of concern to eveyone. Great guest, incredible interview. It'll be great to have the doctor back on. ....A consideration of taking Uva Ursi in addition to the recommended Cranberry capsules as a preventative may be more powerful; sometimes cranberry caps alone aren't that effective. Another question is about the chemicals in the pull ups, diapers & other sanitary pads, are there any studies to refer to with regards to the interraction of these chemicals with body fluids. These pads, pull-ups and diapers are sometimes worn for extended periods of time in an environement whereby heat, sweat, urine & scented chemicals in these products impede circulation. This can possibly be a breeding ground for bacteria that may lead to a UTI and it could be a cause for rashes and other unpleasant issues. Just some observations that would be so appreciated if you would kindly address and perhps advise of what other alternatives or precautions to take.

    I used to get a UTI every month. Had bladder suspension,have DM. I’ve been taking maintenance antibiotics for 2 years,no Uti’s;
    After stopping the antibiotic maintenance,the UTI came back 2 weeks of stopping the antibiotics. Now I’m back to low dose antibiotics.

    Not every UTI diagnosis is correct. Dad had leukemia for at least 5 years until I could convince his doctor that his white blood cell count was not an indication of a UTI.

    Is it possible to give me the actual brands with the best amount of PAC in cranberry supplements? My mom has been very listless and weak and theyve done nothing at the nursing home until I started to notice this and repeatedly asked for help. Turns out she has a UTI and I think they will throw antibiotics at her. Where is she supposed to go to have a thorough examination for her w tire body in relation to having a uti? Would she go to a urologist? She doesnt have a primary care anymore.

    Was not enough information about specifically dementia patients, & needed more info on late stage dementia patients eho arr having more UTI's. Tried to read transcript but dr.'s every few words were "you know" and...."you know"....& "you know.....ad nauseum! Dr. needs to be more direct in her speaking. Sorry, but just my humble opinion...."you know."🙄

    Im a nurse and I cant believe this woman is using the degrading term "diaper." wow! Does she even realize how insulted these human beings get from this word. "Brief" or anything is less insulting than diapers.

      If 'diaper' is insulting to a dementia patient then the caregiver may substitute it with patient friendly word, like we normally do in many similar situations. I know somebody who doesn't not like medicines but happily accepts if called as 'vitamins'.
      But when the discussion is between two doctors or between a caregiver and a doctor we should have the right word for the sake of best clarity.
