- Spindle Thrift Flips for Profit | DIY Christmas 2023 decorations | Vintage Markets projects to sell
Sue and Melissa are getting ready for Fall and Winter Vintage Markets. Seasonal home decor makes up a significant portion of a crafter's annual income. That means that we need to start creating our diy projects early in the year. Today's video is all about clearing out some of our spindle stash to make Christmas decorations for the 2023 holiday market season.

I love your talent and Sue too the snowmen are so cute.
Love the churches and snowmen!!! I love them all!!!❤❤ Thank you!
Thank you so much!
😂😂😂 I love Sue. SHOVE IT! Lol. We need to see more Sue projects.
Hahahah. She has a bunch lined up.
All of these are great, my favorite is the snow men. They are so cute. I think the church looks better without the topiarys. Thanks for the inspiration. God bless
Thanks for watching and the feedback. Mixed reviews on the topiaries, so I think I’m going to not paint anymore that way. While there were more who liked them, there were enough who didn’t, that I think they will all sell!
I like the Cathedral without the topiaries. I loved the video! Thank you!
Thank you! I felt like they needed more when they were blank, but then I felt like it was too much with the topiaries. 🤣🤷🏼♀️🤦♀️
An idea for crafting that many cathedrals; find a stamp topiary. Then glue buttons as bushes. Loved the spindle trees idea & of course the snowmen!
That would have been a good idea! I used to have jars and jars of buttons and can’t seem to find them anywhere.
Happy Sunday
Happy Sunday to you!
Love the trees
I actually like them either way. Different applications would warrant the topiary.❤
Snowmen are adorable.
Thank you! 💕
I think the O mouth snowman is adorable stuck in with the others. Not to be crude but he looks guilty of passing gas in the crowd. Thanks for the upcycle tip of using discarded tree branches to create tiny trees.
🤣🤣🤣 I thought he looked like it was cold outside, but you might be right!
These are beautiful. Love that you upcycled into something beautiful!
Thank you! I actually spent my day ripping apart chairs again today to get more spindles.
@VintageBeeDesign That is a lot of work! ! Have you visited a Renew Store? They have spindals and I think a lot of them are vintage.
Like all of your spidal ideas.
Thank you so much! I can’t wait to get back to crafting and the pile of spindles I’ve built up again!
Love the topiaries!
Thank you! 🥰
The topiaries added some nice class.
Super cute ideas!
Thank you!
Plain without the plants looks best
Adore your topiaries, very cute! I would love to see how you painted them! Definitely agree tho, that would be a lot to do! ❤
Love you projects! Y’all do amazing job! Thank you for sharing!
Spindle
Great Video...
Thank you! I appreciate the kind words!
Adorable.. so talented
Thank you!! 🥰 which was your favorite?
The snowman ornaments made out of the spindles. I have 2 huge boxes of them that I got from an Auction when a local antique store closed.
Oh nice! Sue will be happy you like her design!
I always like to see Christmas diys. I like the Cathedral without the topiaries. All of the ornaments are wonderful. They're great ideas for the spindles.
Thank you! I appreciate your positive feedback! I’m pretty sure that I’ll have both at market, at least until the topiaries are sold out. lol. Still not sure I’m motivated to do more of them. Lol.
Ooooh, that first spindle looked like an old milk bottle after you painted it. Options unlimited 😊
Ha! I didn’t even notice. Yes. Options unlimited. You could do the same thing with flowers in the spring too!
This may be my favorite video ever and I am not even halfway through😍 I'm ready to go start digging through all my Christmas bins, lol
Thanks for such amazing inspiration.
Wow! Thank you! 🥰
I love these❤
Thank you so much for your kind words.
Oh my goodness! These are all SO CUTE!!!!! Yes, I had answered both to the with or without topiaries, however, mass batches is a DEFINITE NO! 😂 stuffing bottles with ribbon is BRILLIANT
Haha. Yeah. I just don’t know that I want to paint 400 topiaries. Lol.
Love your projects and an inspiration to do something with all those broken pieces of furniture in my barn and a Christmas tree too big for me to handle any more.
With my grand babies, we put up a tree, but didn’t decorate it. Honestly, it’s all the other decorations that inspire me anyway!
Just watched this video and gave a suggestion for your snowman heads. Instead of trying to push the fabric strip through try bending a piece of small wire in half, put the fabric strip in the bend, push the wire through then pull the fabric strip through. Easy peasy! I’ve used this method to make homespun and bead garland.
That is an excellent piece of advice!
I just found you lol I love love the snowmen ❤
Thank you so much!!
First im in love with these especially the snowmen ⛄️! I’m glad that you posted this I never know really what months I should start working on the different seasons for my booth and then im scrambling to get things done. How far ahead do you usually work? I guess that I should start working on pumpkins and Christmas now! Then during Christmas time grab out my spring and summer holidays. Thank you so much for sharing these crafts and the reminder to work ahead.❤
We talk about this, and other business and seasonal recommendations in my business coaching group. My general rule of thumb is you should dedicate at least 25% of your work, year round to holiday decor. In November, December, and January, that’s really springtime, Easter, and Mothers Day. By the time Easter, or Mother’s Day, at the latest, it should become fall/winter. If you don’t have Christmas out by Halloween, the shoppers who spend the most money will already have spent it elsewhere.
Oh noooo, Mr Bill!
Hahah: I did think that too.
I definitely prefer without the topiary’s
❤️
Without the topiaries. They are simple and sweet
I love the snowman but how about cutting up one of the tree pieces, drilling two tiny holes and giving him arms? I think the dimension and horizontal line would look great
That sounds like an interesting idea. If I do more, I’ll explore that idea. I certainly need to find more projects for the tree limbs. 🤣🤣
@@VintageBeeDesign Have you thought about making a lot of circles and hooking them into a garland and hanging cut wood letters from them spelling Merry Christmas or something?
I like the topiaries but would prefer them without the red berries
👍 I wasn’t happy with it in that phase, which is why I added the berries.
Do topiaries on some but just glue on buttons.
With the
Toporiaries
Love these projects Melissa! Great tips on batch project crafting, and yes starting on Christmas NOW is a great plan as the season will be upon us before we know it. I've just started with my own booth and would love to know price points on your small items, I struggle with pricing, I'm sure it will get easier as I go forward. Thanks for sharing your creative talents with us all, I love projects that you take items from here and there and making something wonderful.
Prices vary by location, but another tip is to price everything as you do it. I priced the spindle trees at $7.95 & $8.95. The snowmen are $8.95, the cathedrals will probably be around $10.95.
Pricing never gets easy. Lol.
Would it be easier to use a piece of floral wire to thread through the hole in the wood bead, bend a hook on the end then pull the piece of fabric back through? I think that would be easier than trying to stuff it through with the skewer. Also, if you have one of the stamps with a topiary on it, could you use it for tge little church? Such cute ideas you have!
I love both of your little houses or churches with and without the topiaries, but think the plain ones need some sort of embellishment at the bottom... Maybe paint a little wooden Xmas cut out of some sort?
That’s what I was thinking too. It’s why I added the topiaries. Then I wasn’t really sure I liked them either. Lol.
👍🤗💐👍👍
I just got a chair for free on marketplace. So, now I'm kinda stumped on how to take it apart. I'm in a wheel chair, I don't have an electric saw (I'd have to ask for help which I prefer not to do,) but I do have a Dremel and a manual miter box and saw. What is the best way to take apart this chair to get all the spindles off? Thank you ❤❤❤ beautiful ideas as always!
Sorry for my delayed response. We’ve been crazy busy lately. Work on the connections. Try to get the seat off first, then then arms, legs, etc. the more manageable the shape and size, the easier it will be to tear apart.
Hi , I was watching one of your videos and there was another one below it showing where you went to some type of market in Perry, Ga. And intended to watch it next, but totally missed it somehow. Do you live in Perry Ga ? I live in a small town in Georgia. I have always wanted to go to one of the market places. Could you send me some info on it. You are new to me. I looked at a video of yours for the first time time and fell in love with all of your creations !! You are soooooo good !! Do you mind getting me the info for the Perry event, I would love to go to one.
Sure! The next big market in Perry, GA is Aug 19-21, 2023. It’s at the fairgrounds. If you go on Fb and look up VMD Perry, GA, you should be able to locate it. If not, let me know. We live in Jacksonville, FL but travel for some markets. We have several videos about Perry, as we try to do a daily video when at market. Just go to our channel and look for the Events section, or search Central GA vintage market and you should find all of them!
