  • Gary Stuart Hocking MBE (30 September 1937 - 21 December 1962) was a Grand Prix motorcycle racing world champion who competed in the late 1950s and early 1960s.
Born in Caerleon, Newport, Wales, and as a small boy his family immigrated to Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). He won the 1961 350cc and 500cc World Motorcycle Championships when he rode for MV Agusta. The death of his good friend Tom Phillis (Honda) on the Isle of Man upset him a lot and he retired from motorcycle racing. The following year he began racing cars and at the Westmead Circuit, Durban, South Africa, died after his Lotus-Climax 18/21 went out of control and left the road at high speed.
