the background sounds make it way creepier than it actually is.
If you actually listen to some of these stations the statuc behind them tend to create a pretty terrifying ambience

d3adxn3rd go to websdr and Priyom.org. Websdr is an online shortwave radio emulator and Priyom has schedules for when they broadcast.
Imagine being a spy and having to listen to these creepy stations just to know where to go.
It's probably not creepy for them
I mean, some people find normal police radios creepy.
Creepy (with some paranoia mixed in) while listening at the first time, but they'll get used to it.
They need to fear being caught and propably tortured to get info of them or killed
Imagine being a spy and your message is joe Swanson repeating numbers and mimicing minecraft cave noises
Fun fact: the transmission tower in the thumbnail has nothing to do with number stations, it belongs to a regular radio station near Nauen, Germany, near Berlin.
How do you know this?
Or does it?
Stimmt, wohne in der Nähe
Also the man on the thumbnail is using a soviet RF Radiation Protective suit with a headset
That’s just what the Germans would have you believe.

I think it scares me the most knowing that these kinds of things we learn about the government are only the tip of the iceberg.
I agree! I think that's what makes these truly creepy. It's evidence of the secretive things going on all the time.
sacredwolfxx Whats worse is knowing somehow someway were all being watched to a degree.
+Dom Preziosi Oh yes, that's something to get you paranoid if you think about it too long.
sacredwolfxx True lol
many of these including uvb are still active are available to listen to anytime. Governments prefer them to computers so data can't be "hacked" in any way.
Sure, lets watch this at 1:06 AM in a dark room.
Been listening to number stations recordings off and on for a while now. I tell you, the creepiest experience is when you've been up until 3:00 or so listening to them, go outside... And everything is foggy and silent. That REALLY brings on the skin crawling.
Yeah, have to say it's more fascination than anything now.
I live for those moments.
Nope. I did it at 3 in the morning. Not scared
Sounds like a bad idea

AARGH! I REMEMBER! DRAGOVICH! STEINER! THEY MUST DIE!
I use to listen to a radio station with classical music back in the day to fall asleep, I remember one day waking up around 4am to a sort of loud voice shouting out numbers, I was half asleep so I thought it might’ve been a dream but I see that it wasn’t, I’m glad i got to hear these secret codes, I wonder if there still around?🤔
There is one time where you could here crying but it turns out it was a prank
Some of the number stations are active until today. Most were present during the Cold War, if I'm not wrong.
I think I heard some on the car radio when I was younger
The numbers, Mason. Tell me about the numbers.
the numbers say kill erdogan
I was in Germany during the 80's in the Army. There was more weird shit going on between the east and west when it came to radio traffic a person could hardly keep up with it or even notice it all for that matter. The closer you got to the east/west border the worse it became. I heard everything from numbers to crazy music and voices, bag pipes, Latin.... it was endless.
+TheChuck624 Interesting, sort of reminds me what a dear friend of mine (now deceased) once told me about his own experience during the Cold War. His task amounted to mapping out coordinates for potential itineraries in case of thermonuclear warfare between the two blocs (he served in a subsection of the RAF during the fifties). Apparently he initially struggled a lot to keep up with his unit in West Germany as they were constantly hunted down by foreign intelligence, always on the move from town to town. The Cold War sure had its fair load of shady stuff happening.
I'm curious, was there any transmission that stood out in particular, or was it just utter audio chaos? Was there any place in particular on the border where you could perfectly hear that kind of radio traffic?
Lol
TheChuck624 more pls

I remember when my Dad was travelling through Germany with his friend and communicated via old military radios: they had to keep changing frequency because that was back when the Germans monitored all radio activity.

I've heard all of them. There are many still in operation. Get an old vacuum tube communications receiver (boatanchor), and you will hear loads of stations all over the world on a coat-hanger antenna, if you use headphones.
Kyle old technology will always work
My dad gave me his travel SW radio and his Dad’s dual-conversion general communications radio complete with reel antenna.
Bullshit. Today everything is done on high-bandwidth channels, using much more sophisticated encryption mechanisms than encoding the message in a couple of numbers a voice tells in the radio. Everyone has a laptop today, all the tolls you need are on there.
Now I know what all that weird shit was about on my old man's sw radio. It must be damn near 100 years old and I still have it. The radio, not my dad.
@@Merthalophor They still use those methods? How I know? I have badly designed 5.1 Logitech speakers, cables are also over the radiator that is placed on the wall, making signals even stronger. When I have volume at low level, I can hear one of those stations, at the same hour, every day.

Yeah, mondo creepy with the monotone voices, distorted music or childish music. Full body shudder.
I just stumbled across one today on the AM radio. It was kinda scary, so I can agree.
Growing up, my grandparents had a large console radio from the 1930's (my brother has it now, don't know if it still works), with shortwave bands on it. We'd hook up an additional antenna outside, and on clear nights, it would pick up some really weird transmissions. We figured they were from Europe, too bad we never recorded anything. I'm wondering if we didn't hear one of these. This was the late 70's/early 80's.
Imagine sitting on your porch listening to radio, them listing off your coordinates and the lights in your neighbors’ houses turning off
That's when it's time to set the booby traps and LEAVE.

That’s so strange, I was coming in from a cigarette, watching this and I felt like someone was following me, so much so that I turned around.
*EDIT*
And I’m a 37 year old fucking man.
Like others, I always seem to end up watching this kind of thing late at night. I live in a quiet area but usually there are some noises of civilisation, but one time in the early hours I was browsing number stations, went out for a smoke and a thick mist had come down which of course deadens and distorts sound. Not gonna lie, I genuinely felt vulnerable that time. Trouble with looking round to catch the thing behind you is that there will always be a "behind you."
I believe you. I think i've "seen" one of them inside an old army barracks. A man in a hat.
Its probably because it feels like you shouldn’t be listening to them and someone’s gonna make sure you don’t.
Once back in 2006 I heard a strange radio sound during a vacation to Florida , and at Walmart some other guy also was talking about it to his family and we told him and he was like wtf
2:18 tf2 red heavy spinning in cp_degrootkeep while a posing and spinning in circles
Yes.
Why the creepy images and music. Most of these messages were most likely communications that held secret information such as strategies or relay sensitive information. To think that some towers would be in the woods on nice sunny days with some guys who sent messages on direct order doesn't seem that ominous.
Mruvym it's just how the message is delivered can be seen as very ominous, also because of the fact that we don't know who these messages are sent to and from what government. Some of these are still operational today even during peacetime.
oh yeah but they could also be playing some mind games, like a german country broadcasting in russian for example. I guess we'll never know
cyborgdata Who was that? and what was the message?
Mruvym numbers stations during the cold war, were used to activate possible sleeper agents in key locations, I think that's what makes it creepier, that anybody that heard these broadcasts, just... turned without objection

I am always reminded of the old joke of the verbal message sent from the front in WW1 which started as “send reinforcements we’re going to advance” and after a relay of message runners had got it to headquarters it was modified to “send three and four pence, we’re going to a dance”! Messages get garbled easily. 😂

I used to dial through the SW bands at night in the 1960's and my friends and I heard some very odd things. Lot's of number stations where broadcasting, sequences of musical notes and there where frequencies with weird roaring sounds and tones, English broadcasts from Radio Triana (Albania) and Radio Havana. Fun stuff.
Hey classic Dark5! lovin' it.
I'm old enough to have heard many "numbers stations". However, one of the latest and weirdest mystery transmissions are on 27.5xx MHz (Upper Side Band) and is a repeated (often profane) latino voice saying in English, "This is to all the beautiful ladies on the beach who get sand in their coo***'s, coo***'s...coca cola". They'll repeat with some variation for several minutes then stop. Has anyone heard these?
That's hilarious. Record it, please!
AyyingLmaos They don't come on very often. When they do, I will record and post. :)

What equipment should one buy to be able to listen to numbers stations? Even my best world receiver radio, which has 9 scales of short wave broadcast is only receiving from 5.1 to 21.4 MHz, so I guess this hobby needs some more professional short wave receivers...

"Number 8 *BURP* number 8 *BURP*"
Any radio capable of receiving the shortwave band can listen to them.
The best thing about them is the fact they're in plain sight, and yet the information they provide is useless without their respective one time pad. No computer is capable of deceifering the numbers either. And their short transmissions make them almost impossible to trace the exact location.
Man I miss the old format, text only, that was back when dark 5 was the king of YT channels.

BoilingHotCoffee My bad. I never play
This video is very well-done. Graphics looks very professional and the typeface used for each heading really works. The "music" ups the creep factor.
having that background noise over each one kinda defeats the purpose of listing to this...
The "backward music" one reminds me quite a bit of the very common Stanag 4285 military and intelligence communications on HF. Similar phasing effect, maybe it was an early use of that type of transmission technology. I love this stuff, heard my first numbers station as a kid back in the late 70's. Ocho, ocho, cuatro, uno, tres, siete. My older brother told me it was Russian spies in Cuba and man I was totally hooked on HF after that. Never really stopped... Now I have a full wave mag loop on my ceiling for 20 meters and 10 meters and three small resonant mag loops for 80, 40, and 11 meters... and a discone in the attic because bro, everyone needs a discone whether they know it or not. I have two of the good RTL-SDR sticks and a Ham It Up, but they're just gathering dust now because the real bad boys are my SDRPlay RSP 1 and 2 units. Not cheap, but oh so nice. Pair one of those with a strong computer running SDR Console and some digital decoder software and you'll be having fantasies of being an NSA spook just about instantly. ;-)
Have to say I'm impressed with how well put together this video is in terms of images and sound.

I will always enjoy this channel much more than top 10 or all time conspiracies. Not that they're bad, but this channel has the best content I've found and not having voice overs keeps it "dark".
Do you make the transition scenes yourself/selves or are they stock footage of random stuff? Because they are always extremely well-done, its very impressive
The interference is what makes it creepy. At the end of the day this method of communication is extremely useful for transmitting information. Even today it's useful.
I remenber having a short radio back in the 90's and picking up some of this radios.

Well, there isn't that much strange about these things really, as radio is a very good way of transmitting asymmetrically encrypted messages to an unspecified number of individuals constantly on the move without needing any intermediaries.
Actually, I believe that with the rise of better interception on the web with super AIs like Watson, we will see a lot more of this kind of encoding going on.
