I'm astounded how calm the man being held hostage was. He didn't know the weapon was fake, and managed to not panic and do the best under the situation.
News anchors are trained in keeping their composure under pressure or sudden changes of script (breaking/shocking news, last-minute script revisions, problems during live coverage, etc). This man was exceptionally good at his job.

I've always been under the impression the Max Headroom incident was a hijacking for hijackings sake. They did it cuz they could, and nobody was hurt. Kinda like how some hackers operate, they do it to simply see if they can

@Abdelhalim BoDe @Abdelhalim BoDe I just watched And I'm going to give you my honest opinion, understand that this is constructive criticism, and in no way am I poking fun at you.
1st impression, the narration needs work. You have to have some sort of emotional range to your voice, it just makes it all the much more entertaining. However you were clearly spoken, and that Is a good start.
2nd, the writing needs work. I'm sorry to say but we aren't all great writers, so take a look at stories read by Mr. Nightmare, or chilling scares. All their stories read similar because they edit for grammar. Way too many sentences start with the proper name of the subject, when you're only speaking of one person you don't have to use their name every single time.
3rd, these aren't bad stories. They aren't bad stories at all, they just need some work.
Don't beat yourself up, Because if this is something you really wanna do then you can definitely work at it. It's A big deal to put yourself out there on CZcams like this in general, so that is already huge.

I grew up in Los Angeles and was watching KNBC the day Gary Stollman walked onto the set live. It was incredibly scary to watch since I was only a teenager. To this day, I remain so impressed with how poised David Horowitz remained during the whole situation. He was a great consumer advocate reporter, and he handled this event so calmly, which I believe helped everyone around him to remain calm as well.

I remember this I was 19 years old in 1988 also grew up in Costa mesa which you probably know Orange County south of LA. Didn't see it live because I was working late, I did see it on the 11 pm news when I got home had a 13" Color TV in my room. In those days News Media was the only mass form of communication unlike today someone can startup a CZcams channel.

He could probably tell that it was a bb gun, they have different feel to them and he pressed it onto him, probably thought it was an office prank.
i believe it was done deliberately to waste time and give the broadcasters more time to take the broadcasting off the air before he started reading it while also serving to possibly get information that would help identify the man
probably part of a procedure for this sort of thing rather than something he just "did"
The Max Headroom prank was brilliant. Of course, people speculate on a darker tone to it. But c'mon, it was clearly nothing more than a prank. I actually applaud their skill for being able to hack into local networks back then.
My theory has always been that it was just a couple of drunk college kids playing with some new gadgets.
Well, back then it was much easier to get control of broadcasts, In the easiest way you just needed to set up a transmitter to the same frequency wich would "overpower" the original transmitter in a certain radius. Not what these dudes did but still.
I also used to do this with radio frequencies around 10 years ago.
That's why wondered that the fbi got involved for some kids playing with technology XD

The Max Headroom Incident to me is probably the most fascinating, because they never caught the guy. I wasn't alive in the 80s to witness this, but to this day like everyone else I have so many questions about it and am left intrigued. I actually get a kick out of it and laugh each time I see it. Its trolling before trolling was invented.
Part of me thinks it was someone with access to the tv station.. part thinks it is some unknown figure lost in 7 or 8 billion lives. My bet is on him knowing someone at the station especially since it was 1987.
Hopefully someone proves me wrong but I think it was an inside job of some kind

Max Headdroom was huge for kids who grew up in the 80s. What'll always be weird to me is that my kids primarily know the character from that weird-as-hell broadcast hijacking.
Same here. That's what I was thinking too. I was like "What's this weird-ass mask he's got and what's the reason for this mask?" I personally think it was a bunch of college nerds who were into hacking and seeing how far they could push the systems.

The only thing that worried me were his coworkers yelling call the cops right in front of the crazy guy, and cutting the feed. But David himself, had a perfect demeanor. I feel like the guy could have put the gun down, and he would have read it anyway.

The Maxheadroom one is actually kinda funny when you watch it but I understand how it would have creeped people out when it happened.

Those two images at 9:19 were actually a part of another Broadcast Hijacking that took place in Wyoming. It was known as "The Wyoming Incident". It was a popular unsolved ARG at the time.

True, but thats not the actual image that showed up during the WJLA-tv broadcast. The real image can be found on a wiki, but its cropped and very low quality. From what I can see, it shows a man wearing sunglasses and a woman.

This type of stuff is my favorite due to how truly mysterious these occurrences are to this very day.. goes to show how diabolically genius some people can be
This channel is like a digital version of sharing scary stories over a campfire.
When my cousin and I we're younger, something really strange happened while watching TV. Til this day I have no explanation for it and I've tried my absolute hardest to find an explanation for it. I've chalked up to possibly being an auditory hallucination but still, nothing I was searching up was even close to what we experienced. One time while watching TV, the screen suddenly turned to static out of nowhere and what I could describe as disembodied voices came from the TV. I thought I was going crazy until I looked over to my cousin and saw a face of pure terror. I can't even describe the voices but it sounded almost like military chatter? It was definitely men speaking but very low and then the TV went back to normal. I just remember having a headache after it had happened but til this day, that's one of the strangest/unexplained things to have happened to me.

I had this same thing happened to a TV me and my friend seen in high school and most terrifying part was the volume was completely down and the volume cord for my xbox 360 was unplugged
The closest explanation I could think of is an interference between the TV channel and some military equipment that was somehow on the same frequency

IMHO, I'd say Mr. Nightmare is the younger brother of Chilling Scares. His material is so much more visceral, descriptive, and well-researched.
Both have the presentation format down pat. No odd accent or speech patterns to appear scary, just direct, smooth narration. No filler.
They pick interesting topics and edit their videos well.

I was a teen in Chicago in the mid eighties...I didn't see the Max Headroom takeover of the sports news, but I did see the one on WTTW. Me and some friends were watching Dr. Who with Tom Baker and Louise Jameson, stoned and having fun, then boom! Hijacked! We all just stopped, stared at the TV and laughed after WTTW regained control. It was very surreal!

Max Headroom's face is a digitization of a real actor - Matt Frewer - who played Edison Carter, the reporter in the movie 'Twenty Minutes Into The Future' who died when he was hit by a 'Max Headroom' signpost whilst trying to escape a parking lot on his motorcycle.

The fact that nobody has ever taken credit for, or admitted to, the Max Headrom hack is incredible. You'd think eventually it would come out.
Considering it took at least a few people to pull it off, it is really surprising that to this day it still remains unknown who any of them where. The fact that the incidents are still talked about with a sense of mystery is perhaps is credit enough for them? Who knows, it still may be solved but only by someone coming forward with something more.
It must be so funny being the person who orchestrated the max headroom incident and knowing that you trolled so many people back in the day and you never got caught.

I remember the max headroom incident. I was a huge Doctor Who fan ever since I was a kid and as I was watching "The Horror of Fang Rock" when Max pops up. I didn't know it was a hijacking of the TV broadcast and thought it may have been some sort of commercial. Years later I found out what really happened. Was very creepy even at 16 years old!!
I absolutely love 'The Horror at Fang Rock'! - have you ever seen 'Twenty Minutes Into The Future' - the original TV movie that created 'Max Headroom' - if not then check it out, it's awesome and I guarantee you'll love it.
I adore Hammer Horror too, especially the TV show 'Hammer House of Horror' - 'Charlie Boy' being my fave episode!
*I was videotaping "The Horror of Fang Rock" when that crap started! I was so mad at Channel 11 for cutting to that garbage!* I stopped the tape and recorded over it because I also hated Max Headroom, so the whole thing was like a bad dream, like falling into hell. And when I told my brother, sister and mother about it the following morning they didn't believe me... Until the (then) major networks, ABC, CBS and NBC all did stories on their "Evening News" shows about the "pirate broadcast" that interrupted TV the previous night. I guess I might've had something special had I not impulsively stopped recording and recorded over it (I didn't want that nasty bit with that guy's butt on my tape) but I didn't know what it was so I didn't think long-term.

Who would’ve thought that the Max Headroom broadcast would become a real life Doctor Who episode? The broadcast hijack on WTTW occurred during the airing of the Doctor Who episode “Horror of Fang Rock”. Imagine how many people hid behind the sofa that night.
