My favourite sewing tool is a wooden clapper my husband made for me from an old IKEA chair. I kid you not and it is amazing 😍
So interesting to see what your essentials are - my small scissors are probably my most used tool and my seam gauge. I have a little kit ready for whenever I do my sewing - needles/tacking thread/scissors/pincushion/pins/seam gauge/seam ripper/fabric marker/pot for thread bits... the sewing machine and overlocker are secondary to that little kit LOL
Also use the clips on bags of sweets once they are open!!!! Xxx
Definitely agree about the clips, I started using them for quilting and then for bag making, but they're brilliant for dressmaking too 😊

I might have to try the smaller rotary cutter as I make too many mistakes with the bigger one 🤩
I keep looking at the mismatched neck edge on the dress form! I agree with all the tools.
@@nancybennick7949 Ahh it’s only pinned on at that point! I should have pinned it level but didn’t think to check. It’s all finished (with buttons and buttonholes) and very much matched now, don’t worry 😀 x
I use each and every one of your must haves on a daily basis as well! I also use my seam gauge and thread snippers. The sewing clips also come in handy as a barrette when my hair keeps falling forward as I work. 😄

In another video you referred to the dress on the mannequin behind you, saying that it was in your sew Hayley Jane box, but on checking your previous videos I couldn't spot it. So if you can remember the name and make of the fabric, just in case I could still find some somewhere. Thank you for all of your posts, I very much enjoy them.

It was a viscose twill which was in the July Sew Hayley Jane box last year. I don’t know a make or anything for it and to be honest, I think you would struggle to get any of it now! Sorry xx
I use the exact same tools. I have 3 x 45mm cutters and 2 x 28mm cutters. I use them all of the time. I'm definitely team rotary. However, I use snips and my seam ripper absolutely loads too. 🤣
Great tools, I have and use all of them (though I made the ham myself!). My other suggestion is a seam gauge, like the Merchant and Mills one, with a slider, use it all the time
I had bought the metal turner and could not get it to work and in the end used a glass straw and a wooden meat skewer, necessity is the mother of invention as they say.

Really interesting, I probably don’t use my ham as often as I should, so thank for explaining its uses more. In respect of the rotary cutter, I only have the larger ones but I like the idea of the smaller one. Hot hemmer sounds like a great idea. In respect of my favourite item, although I have the clips you mentioned & use those I also have Hemming Clips (HC-101) stainless steel long clips 4.5 inch long which are great when cutting out fabric which I use all the time. Coincidentally, I just had the turning set delivered today, as I don't like the metal loop turner - never managed to get it to work. I bought one of the silicone hemmers at Harrogate and I really can't get on with it! It especially doesn't work when pressing a curved hem as the hemmer curves at a different rate than the garment hem. Agree on all the other items as well. Love my pressing ham. I alternate between 45mm and 28mm rotary cutter, using the smaller one for tight curves. My go-to tool is the hump jumper when using my coverstitch machine as it does not like going over bumps without skipping stitches.

Agree with all those tools and have them all to hand. Great idea to use clips for fabric on the fold- hadn’t thought of that. I do need a new hot hemmer- bought cheap and I melted mine😂😂. My most used and most loved has to be my LDH snips❤. My most hated and most used is my seam ripper😮. Happy Sewing. 😊. Lynne
I use both pins and clips, scissors and rotary cutter (big and small) and have a couple of pressing hams. I tend to use both items no matter what I am making. However, I never tried the hot hemmer or the turning set. I tried that long metal one and gave up in frustration, so maybe time to invest in the turning tubes.
What a great video full of fab ideas. I love the clips too and use them on the fold. Just discovered the hot hemmer and love it too. 💕

I have a holder which shows me to put the ham in all sorts of different positions, so no more burning my fingers

I think I will buy a sewing ham as I've seen you recommend it. I haven't got to this party so maybe Tamlyn had the same to. I have a long white with a little him on the end which had a little latch. It's a mini latch hook. I found this very easy to use
