    Thanks for both this video and the previous one you did for the actual monitor purchase itself, Stu!
    I ended up buying one from Centrecom as I was in the market for an ultrawide monitor to help with productivity (DevOps/Cloud engineer).
    So far everything seems okay, but I have noticed that when connecting the screen to my MBP 2019 16" Intel chip, the brightness seems low.
    I've put all settings to the max but it still seems a bit dull!
    I have two separate MBPs for different work that I do, and the other one is a MBP 2020 13" with a M1 chip.
    On this monitor, I've noticed that the brightness does seem better.
    The major different between the two is USB-C on the 2019 MBP is Thunderbolt 3, while the USB-C ports on the other is Thunderbolt 4.
    Do you think changing the cable will have any difference as per what you mentioned?
    A strange issue to have, but one that I am facing.

    • @HiveMindAutomation
      @HiveMindAutomation  Před 11 měsíci

      I can't say I've noticed any brightness differences between the Apple Silicon and the Intel macbooks, That said, it COULD be that the intel isn't recognising or driving the HDR functionality of the monitor?
      It's only HDR 400, but that's the only thing I could think that might be the root cause.
      Something I've come across is that sometimes, I need power plugged into the MacBook as well as the USB-C cable for the monitor and USB hub to work. Even though the PD should be 90W, for some reason when charging and carrying the Display Data, it seems to struggle. might be the cable again maybe.

    Hi! Thanks for the review, I’m thinking about purchasing one also for productivity. Do you do Teams and screen sharing? I wonder when you’re sharing your screen how is it showing up to the other person’s screen.

    • @HiveMindAutomation
      @HiveMindAutomation  Před rokem +2

      Hard to say what it'll look like on the other persons screen. I tend to limit my screen shares only to the window I need the other party to see.
      Firstly because I work in a regulated industry and need to be mindful of privacy, but secondly because of the aspect ratio of this screen. if you do full screen sharing, it will look like a super stretched wide bar, so I'd limit to just sharing the relevant windows.

    • @alexk6745
      @alexk6745 Před rokem

      Bloody hell. You right. That's a miss with that monitor. If you have 2 monitors you just share 1 monitor to avoid acidentally share something you do not wanna share. But at the same time I start to think that author is right you'd better share only a required window and nothing else. But it is not always convenient as sometimes you need to share entire screen when you jumping from vscode to browser or terminal.

    Can you elaborate on the KVM feature? It looks like a dedicated input selector which is a step up from default but I'm looking for a single button press to toggle from PC 1 to PC 2. Can this do that?

    • @HiveMindAutomation

      well, it's more like 2 button presses.
      The left-most single button will switch the inputs, but the first press just brings up the OSD menu, then again to 'cycle' through active inputs.

    Hi, and thanks for the follow up video! After watching the first one I was trilled to find a follow up one year later.
    I will be shopping for a 49" monitor in the next few days and I'am strongly considering this model. My setup will be a laptop connected to the USB-C port, but also a desktop PC connected to the DisplayPort port. The desktop PC does not have a USB-C input to transfer the USB signals. Have you tried if this can be done with a USB-C (in the monitor) to USB-A (in the desktop PC)? I am also considering the AOC AG493UCX2 that has a USB-B for transfering the USB-signals.
    Have you tested connecting the mouse/keyboard to the screen wirelessly via a dongle?

    • @HiveMindAutomation
      @HiveMindAutomation  Před rokem

      I haven't tested a USB-C to USB-A connector, but there's no reason it shouldn't work so long as you're not trying to carry Video signal over it.
      I've not used a Wireless dongle either, but again, no reason it shouldn't work

  • @Akiall
    @Akiall Před 11 měsíci

    Hi and thank you for this video! I would like to kindly ask you to clarify something for me;
    I'd like to connect my keyboard and mouse to the monitor's USB hubs. When I attempted to try this with my keyboard, it didn't work. Keyobard was dead. After online reading, it's seems it's because I'm missing a USB connection between monitor and PC, whoops. Turns out a USB cable came in the box? I must have lost it, looked everywhere.
    Now I'm kind of lost what exact type of USB cable I need to purchase and which port to use to connect it to my PC. I understand that on the monitor, there's a type C port, three USB downstream, one USB upstream; that's all chinese to me haha.
    Watching your video, you mention and link to a Type-C to Type-C cable. Can you clarify, if this means that I need to purchase a high quality cable such as the one you linked, then plug it into the Type C port of the monitor and Type C port of the motherboard and then connect my KB and Mouse to 2 of the 3 downstream ports?
    Hopefully all of this made sense. Your help would be greatly appreciated!
    Edit: Both the keyboard and mouse use USB type B to connect to my PC

    • @HiveMindAutomation
      @HiveMindAutomation  Před 11 měsíci

      Firstly, I suspect you mean the Keyboard and Mouse connect with USB Type-A, not Type -B. If your Keyboard and Mouse use USB Printer style connectors you've got a bigger problem.
      If you specifically have THIS monitor, there's 2 USB-C ports on the back. One carries ONLY USB Signals to/from the onboard USB Hub, and one that adds the DisplayPort Data.
      if you're connecting the Display using HDMI or DisplayPort, you can use ANY USB-C to USB-C cable to connect the Hub to the computer, but there's settings in the On-Screen menus you need to configure to "pair" the Display Input (HDMI/DisplayPort) to the USB input.
      If you're wanting to carry the display Signal over USB-C as well and have one cable to charge and connect your USB-C enabled laptop, you need the 'fancy' cable, and you still need to configure the On-Screen menus appropriately.

    Hi. I'm considering a similar setup like yours. Maybe it's my English (I'm from Germany) or something else, I can't really imagine how your cabling is. Do you have something like a block diagram or so? I'm all in Apple, but sometimes I get Windows laptops from customers. If I could set it up in a way that I have one mouse, one keyboard and one Monitor, that would be great.

    • @HiveMindAutomation
      @HiveMindAutomation  Před 9 měsíci +1

      So yes, you can setup 1 Mouse, 1 Keeb, 1 Monitor.
      Mouse and Keyboard plugin to the USB-A Host ports on the monitor. Basically the monitor is a USB-Hub
      In my case, the USB and DisplayPort signal goes back to my Mac over the one USB-C 3.1 Cable
      Adding a second device means using either the DisplayPort or one of the 2 HDMI ports.
      DisplayPort and HDMI don't carry USB signals, so there's a second USB-C port on the monitor to run a regular old USB-C cable (doesn't have to be 3.1 compatible) back to the second Computer.
      With this particluar monitor, there's some settings in the On Screen Display to bind the different USB-C ports to different Display Inputs.

    Hello, how did you connect the mouse to the monitor to be able to control 2 pc's or one? I have a logitech MX master 3 and I want to connect it wirelessly to one of the monitor's USB A ports but it doesn't work for me.

    • @HiveMindAutomation
      @HiveMindAutomation  Před rokem +1

      What's your Monitor connected to your computer with?
      USB signals won't be carried over DisplayPort or HDMI, you need to add a USB-C Cable from the monitor to the computer as well even if that's not how your monitor is receiving the Display Data.
      You also need to change some settings in the On Screen Menu to map the USB-C Connections to the correct inputs.
      It's in Menu -> System -> USB Source Setup and each source will either be assigned "USB(PC IN)" or "USB-C" per the markings on the I/O shield of the monitor.

    You might have just saved my M1 MacBook. I nearly always run it in clamshell mode and didn't know it was causing heat issues. I'll keep the screen open from now on. Do you know if you can turn off the screen with it open? Also, I'm looking at buying this monitor because my last one died, so thank you so much for your review. I've saved it for future reference and will likely need to make a trip to jaycar for that cable as well. I'm not 100% sure I'm going to get this one just yet but the 100R curve is a huge selling point to me.

    • @HiveMindAutomation
      @HiveMindAutomation  Před 2 měsíci

      Honestly unless you're pushing it REALLY hard the M1 isn't likely to heat up too much.
      I now mostly run my machines in Clamshell mode when working from home and unless I'm doing some really heavy lifting I never hear the fans kick on. but to even get there, I'm running Stable Diffusion or a Large Language Model, or Rendering a 3D scene in Blender.
      Intel macs on the other hand get toasty just sitting there.
      The only thing I miss about intel macs is having a hand warmer while I'm typing during the winter months.
      As for turning the internal display off with the clamshell open, it's not really a thing, but you MIGHT be able to trick it with a strategically placed magnet to trick the hall effect sensor into thinking the clamshell is closed.
      It's been a couple of years now since I got this monitor so there might be some other options on the market now with better features.
      I still love having this huge monitor, so much so I'm considering a monitor arm that takes 2 of them so I can stack a second one on top to double my productivity.... or heat up the GPU cores

  • @ghersn

    Hi, is there an specification about typical power consumption (watts)? Web page mentions only the maximum: 220 Watts. My 2 monitors of 27'' consume 80 watts together. I am thinking in buy the monitor but my power consumption is limited.

    • @HiveMindAutomation
      @HiveMindAutomation  Před 9 měsíci +1

      There's way too many variables at play that will affect your power consumption with this monitor.
      I frequently see around 100-130 Watts depending on the state of discharge of my laptop, I've not really looked at the power consumption using an external supply for the laptop or using the DP input, though it would have to be lower.
      There's no documentation I can find, I'd have to run tests, but I can pretty much guarantee your use case is unlikely to be identical to mine, so my testing is likely to produce results that may not be relevant to you.

    I've just bought this monitor and I'm unable to get my laptop to connect with the Samsung supplied USB-C cable (have lodged a ticket with Samsung). Works fine with HDMI but with the USB-C I get a windows error "USB not recognized". Seems to be an issue with the cable itself. Have ordered a brand new USB 3.2 2x2 cable, hopefully this resolves my issue :(

    • @HiveMindAutomation
      @HiveMindAutomation  Před rokem +1

      I had tons of trouble with the included Cable. I've been having some trouble again recently and this time I think it might be something weird with the internal USB hub. Sometimes it just won't connect USB and I have to unplug/re-plug 3 or 4 times, and then sometimes it works for 5 minutes and then the USB disconnects. Because I use my macs in Clamshell moe it means they then hibernate because they don't have a keyboard or mouse connected and the lid is shut so they think they should go into low-power mode.
      For the most part though, I still love this monitor. I'm using PBP mode right now as I evaluate macOS Sonoma for work.
