  • Switching it up a bit! Time to start adding gold content to the channel. Thought I'd start with a Dream Mat install in the Gold Cube 4 stack.
I use my Gold Cube as my main piece of equipment and I set it up and a 60 gallon recirculating setup due to the area I work not having water, as well as local laws and whatnot. It works pretty slick. I will make a video one of these days that explains the whole setup.

My #1 complaint about the Cube the way it comes is that the mats are not removable. It makes them impossible to wash efficiently. I got my kit of each of the 3 sizes exactly like you directly from Prospector's Dream and it came with those strips. I thought they looked like hardware store threshold pieces, but they are actually custom made to fit the cube exactly and I recommend paying the $9 and not have the hassle. My only complaint so far is that the strips did not come with screws so I have to head down to the hardware store to make it work - not a biggie but inconvenient. Great video!
FYI - I run crushed rock from a lode mine - most of it under 100 mesh. David Peterson, the inventor, suggested the best order it to run Micro, Cape-D, Mini to get the best results. Have you found the order makes a difference?

@@film8ker1684 I agree! They could do some updates that would really help out. As for the hold downs, I may have to grab some someday. A little update on my wood shim holders, them dang things still work great and I never had an issue with them so far. Best luck out there and thanks for tuning in!

Hey there! I never saw a follow up video to this one. I just acquired a used gold cube and bought these mats for it. I was wondering about your personal experience.

I love it! The purple mat is my favorite for the tiny gold. I use a green below the purple just in case a small nuggy makes it that far but they usually catch in the top catch areas. I usually classify to 1/4 and run it slow if there are lots of bigger iron stones. Otherwise it clogs up in the curve at the top of each box. The little wood shims to hold them in work great as well. Makes cleanup super quick and easy being able to flip the mats into a wash tub, give everything a splash and it’s done. Most of the time 99% of the gold is in the top purple mat. Some days I don’t even pan the second or third tray and just toss it all in the “re run bucket” for later.

@@waywardwoodward I see, so you do not keep a "slick" layer at all? (i.e. the top layer without mat?) I would think that it was better to guarantee laminar flow to the subsequent layers.

I have mixed feelings about them. I ended up gluing two stock mats back in and I've used the purple mat on the bottom tray if I thought I was losing gold, or the grey if I have chance of losing a nugget/flake bigger than the stock mats would hold. I was hoping to run 1/4" material better but it didn't seem to do me much. Cleanup is easier though, less cons in the dream mat. Either way, the stock gold cube mats do great for fine gold, up to small pickers. The dream mat seemed to slow things down pretty bad on the grey mat on bottom, which seemed to add time. I dunno if more flow might be needed to make the dream mat perform better in the cube. I may run the purple as an inspection mat at some point, as some folks do. I can't say its a bad product or anything of the nature. Just not the right setup for my needs at the time. I am curious to try it out on some other ground along the way.

@@waywardwoodward i do mostly hard rock crushed to -30. But there is some gold @ -200. Thats what I'm hoping it will catch.
I do use a valve and will have to play around with different set up.
Did get the other 2 styles/sizes for the cube and will have up to 5 trays and might double up on some mats.
Appreciate the feed back and let's get it done!

@@nomana60 in your case, I would try different mixes. We know the cube mat catches stuff so you can either start off with it, or put it under the dream mats, whichever way you put those. Figure out which way keeps the gold higher in the setup and keeps feed rates good. The green cape d us what they use on the coast in Cali/Oregon for ultra fine beach sand. They use ten stacks and six foot of sluice off the bottom due to the high amount of black sand vs anything else. The dream mat surely makes quicker cleanup and cleans out better than the cube mats. The cube mats tend to fill in easy if the blacks are the size of the pockets in the mat. Same with high quartz areas I've found. Even then, rarely anything in the third tray. The purple dream mat seems to kill that issue so in those places I'd put it in the first tray, then let the cube mats catch anything it missed, allowing the gold to get caught before the stock mats filled up. If you are classifying down below the size of the pockets in the stock mat, it works far smoother and the gold usually stays in the first tray. In my heart, I just don't know if the dream mat can catch the ultra fine and flour as good as the stock mats. Mix em up and see what you come up with. I'd love some reports on flow/pump changes with the dream mats and so on.

@@nomana60 also, if you are running a bucket of ultra cons, purple mat up top, then stock mat. When the bucket is empty, pan the purple tray only. Most should be there and it'll clean up and pan way faster than the stock mats, and holds less junk. If too much ends up in the next tray, I'd reverse the process and see which works best. Hands down, way faster cleaning up the dream mats, I just dunno if it's missing some super fine stuff.
