I'm surprised that I haven't seen anyone mention it yet, but in that stage most of the signs ARE written in Korean,(a few are in chinese, but that makes sense considering it's a market, and most of Korea's tourists come from China) and there ARE skyscrapers in the background.
Course, I didn't read the article, can't be bothered to find it l, and am very bad at Korean, so I can't really be sure if the translation you're going on accurately conveys their frustration with the character/stage.

As a Brazilian, I've come to appreciate Blanka and we all kind of took a liking to him. It sucked when he was the only Brazil representative, but we got a pretty cool São Paulo in SF3 with Sean, Laura was pretty cool (although her Stage was a bizarre amalgamation of all Brazil stereotypes) and there's plenty of other cool Brazilian characters in other fighting games. Also, Blanka's theme in SF6 is Brazilian funk to a T and it slaps.

I'm from India and I'll say they got our stage right. India is like a supercontinent where every state feels like it's own country with their own ethnicities, cultures, languages and religions mostly tied to the main Hindu religion
It's not unlikely to see a state that looks just like an American state but at the same time, looks like the street fighter V stage

Well the complaint about the vendors is dumb, but I do agree about the banners having mandarin instead of Korean. That'd be like me writing chinese on japanese signs that's a very avoidable mistake.

To be fair, Hangul is a relatively very new system of writing Korean, for the longest time they (Korea) used whats essentially chinese, so it could be a reference to that?

@@cheesysama8278Where did you get that info from? Chinese had been a part of their language but they had a writing system called Hanja since 108 BC and Hangul, the modern simplified version was around since 1443. It was only the elite with higher education that looked down on hangul until it became the absolute norm in the 1900s.

@@AlexToti Hm?? Nothing you wrote contradicts what I said at all though..? Hanja is literally Chinese???????? Literally copy and paste 한자 (hanja) and see what that translates into. Hanja has been in use for over 2000 years. Hangul was invented around 600 years ago. Chinese writing systems has existed for around 5000 years. 600 years historically as a writing system is relatively baby. What you wrote literally just reconfirmed exactly what I said.
I really do not think starting an argument with research that obviously took less than a minute with a simple google search, whilst saying the exact same thing as the person that you picked as your opponent is a good idea my guy. Like. Huh??

Here an expat. Chinese characters are called hanjas in the country. In a very simplistic way, they work as kanjis in Japan, holding meaning for a whole word. They are used mostly in... Newspapers! But its not common to see full billboards like that. About the rural look, fits perfectly with any little town around the peninsula, even small cities... Overall the country is a place of many contrasts, although the average tourist hardly notices them.
Ps. I like juri but her character development feels really disappointing....

If you wanna see a zaibatsu that survived to modern day, it'll be South Korea. Chaebols are family owned and they're influential due to their role in building SK's economy. Same goes to Japan if the the US decided not to abolish them. Chaebol and zaibatsu share the same Chinese character and it's no surprise that the annexation brought in that business model.
