We entered the Simpson dessert from west to east. The first day was a bit windy. We set up camp and had dinner then went to bed in our tents. At about 12.30 in the morning a big sand storm hit and flattened our tents so we decided to pack up and leave. We drove through the dessert at night and had to stop at the top of the sand dunes and use a torch to look were we had to go. A good set of driving lights would have helped heaps. We drove all night and the next day to Birdsville. The lady at the camp area was very surprised that we made it at night. We were stuffed when we got to bed that night.
And that's why i need a good set of driving lights.
    Thanks john omalley

Great episode as always guys! One time I really needed a set of spotties was when I was wheeling out the back of Lithgow in my n70 hilux when I lost both headlights plus all sorts of electrical gremlins from going through a deep bog-hole. I found myself navigating the top a ridge with nothing but a torch out the window to look around. I also remember me and my mate squirting the windscreen with our water bottles to try and clean the mud off because my windscreen washer pump packed it in too. Safe to say visibility was a hard thing to come by that night. But it was definitely an adventure and thats what its all about 👍

I was driving from Ararat, Vic to Robe, SA at about 1am and couldn't see anything for the life of me, I only had a cheap pair of spotty's that pretty much gave me stock high beams amount of light and both the globes in my head lights were on the way out. I reckon I could only see about 20m in front of me and that was probably the most dangerous bit of driving I've done, turning off the spotty's for on coming traffic only gave me about 10m of light and I reckon I had a near miss with one roo, 2 rabbits, 2 foxes and one feral cat. Cheers to everyone involved with the show.

A pair of spot lights would have been useful when traveling down the highway at 110km/h and suddenly your lights go out when you know a corner is coming around (it was also a moon-less night) so it was pitch black.

Love your work boys! The one time I reckon I've needed a set of spotties the most.. I was camping up at Fraser as a keen young enthusiast around 10 year ago.. went for bit of a night flick at orchid beach, then after a few hours of not bad fishing I started heading back to camp.. Misjudged what I thought was a small washout and ended up losing not only my fourby to the sea but also my catch was also returned. Glad I can laugh about it now because it was pure devastation at the time!

Driving from Licola back to Woods Point in winter in an underdone Soft top Suzuki Sierra we hit snow and Ice and coupled with some road side adjustments saw the sun set as we neared Matlock. With the Zooks candle power engaged we found the simplest task of telling whether the road surface was gravel or bitumen difficult. We had replaced the rusted out rear lights with LEDS prior to the trip and at times considered driving backwards to utilise the reverse lights. Needless to say a set of Stedi’s are a must whether you think you need them or not cause I’ve learnt over the years those 4 o’clock tracks mandate them.

We drove Goat Rd (down south WA) in our old bush basher GQ and a mate in a 105, whilst on a massive hill climb, 105 snapped his diff and tail shaft, we were stuck behind him, in the rain and couldn't get around, we waited hours and hours for him to winch up the hill- then the winch fried itself, we were stuck in the fading light on a rocky hill in the rain, long story short someone came to the rescue, but our poor old GQ had lights fading, we limped out of there in the terrible weather behind a car in tow with one headlight barely working.. wasn't a fun time at the time! I just got back from Ironman after getting my winch installed, and I was thinning about the empty space next to the control box. I sat down, put you guys on for a 4WD fix, and literally was looking Dirty30's Stedi's thinking I really need some of those. And then you guys said a pair was up for grabs. As for when I really needed them and didn't have them- now! Reason being the past few paychecks have gone to a bar, winch, secondary power, bash plate, solar panels, and xmas is coming and I still need to have some budget left over for a fridge, not to mention -some- fuel! Anyway guys, love your work, keep up the classy content 👌💯

Recently bought a single cab hilux ln167 model, me and my dad decided to take it out after some tlc and ended up breaking a rear axle on the tracks up at ormeau 😂. that ended up going into a night run with only 2wd and thank god for a winch. some spotties would definitely have helped when it got dark. doing up the car at the moment and getting it ready for me to get my l’s. cheers boys.

I think in this era the 4Runner is pretty underrated since it’s reliable enough if you service it, and a very good budget 4wd to start off

A set of the Stedi lights would have been awesome on the Hay Plain. I knew there was a bend coming but due to the flatness couldn't tell how far it was. Coming the other way was a semi and another vehicle behind. I could see their lights getting closer and realised as we hit the bend, the truck was being overtaken. I steered off the road to avoid trouble. The truckie let fly over the UHF. A good set of lights sure would have helped me.

Love your work fellas, looking forward to the price of 4x4s to fall so I only have to remortgage for fuel!
On another note, could have used a set of spotties while stuck on some unamed goat track in Bago state forest, we were bogged to the sills and being staunched by a pack of wild dogs.
The bar on the back was keeping them away while we were digging it out, the front lights had long shit the bed and the mutts were getting very brave when we had to work on the front...
My big brave bully/staghound was hiding in the back the whole time the big sook....

I just need those Stedi X Pro lights to fill my bull bar out. And for the occasional night drive.
Plus, I think 4WD 24/7 have single handedly pushed the price of 4x4's up because you guys do such a great job of making it look awesome.

The time I most needed a set of spotties I was leaving camp at 4am solo with the dog. Heading down this trail to make my way onto the blacktop and this monster grey roo just popped up infront of us. It was a stand off he wouldn't budge but he was just out range of my headlights in the y62 as we were on a decent. The dog started growling and carrying on. My Y62 headlights don't fade into the distance like normal headlamps, they just have a crisp line where they stop shining which was just short of shining onto this roo. A set of spotties would of been great 👍

Enjoying the beers in the scrub guys, keep it up! Living out of town a fair while ago and heading home from work late at night in my 83 Bluebird. A owl 🦉 flew out and clipped my driver's side headlight doing no damage but scared the shit out of me. Well I swerved hitting a guide post smashing the passenger headlight. Could have done with some spotties!

Im a scout leader, a couple of years ago, just after i bought my colorado we went on a camp. Took heaps longer than it should have to pack the trailer and organise the kids. We arrived late at night to a camp site that was suppose to be lit by a streetlight. The light wasnt working and we had to set up camp by the light of the stock headlights on the car, they wernt bright enough or far reaching enough though, so we set up the tents one at a time in front of the car then moved them to ths final position and pegged them down! Would have been heaps easier with more light!!

Could’ve used those stedi spotties 2 weeks ago when we were driving down the Birdsville track towards the end. We came around a corner and fell into a very deep muddy rut and drenched the car in thick mud. Headlights, spotlights barely visible through the mud. lucky to make it out only being in 2nd at the time. Doing a mini lap of aus in our 1989 paj 🤙🤙

I was driving the fence on the cattle station I worked on. I was in a old 75 series with no mods at all not even light. Anyway I was driving this fence and it got dark there this one part where the track has washed out and turned into a dry creek the only way to get though is to go off the track and cross it and there only one piece to do that anyway the lights on the old 75 wasn’t very good and I ended up crossing a little bit that went out to the side instead of the main creek got turned around because I couldn’t see enough and ended up sleeping on the front seat with no bedding. Yeah some good lights would have helped a lot lol. The next morning I drove though the middle of the paddock to the other side where I made my way home once I did the bit of the fence that I missed the night before

    Absolutely fantastic episode!!
My story is that I was driving from Tennant Creek to Darwin in the early hours in the morning. As I was on the northern side of Adelaide River about 90km from Darwin a huge buffalo walked out in front of my car. To say I needed to change my pants is an understatement. Thankfully I managed to get around unscathed but definitely a scare so early in the morning. If I had a pair of good spotties I would've seen the big fella well before I got into this situation

Story for the spotties ! I went wedge island north of Perth 1st time there arrived at night in an old disco 1 v8 and decided to go up the dunes full send and what looked like a gradual hill was not. There was a 1m drop down Infront of the dune and I hit the face of the dune hard! my brother in law (front passenger) hit the windscreen with his face when we stopped dead. Had to turn around and drive straight back to Joondalup hospital the same night to get the glass out of his cheeks. I will never drive on sand at night with standard headlights ever again .cheers blokes love the show❤️🍺

A set of good spot lights.. Could use those every trip in the 60. The 40 year old candles dont really hold up when trying to find a camp after work on a Friday, let alone trying to get down the road without hitting a roo

I did exactly as you guy's said when buying my first 4x4. I went to see a 20 k 1994 Troopy. The vehicle "looked" good with all the fruit already on it including a solid well serviced engine but, the old girl was spent and tired. Rusted mild steel exhaust, warn out winch, a little rust in one corner of the windscreen, noisy rear crown and pinion, sloppy gear selector and a worry some whine from gearbox when in fourth, warn out clutch, and so on. With one days rego left on it and, after a serious chat with the bloke selling it we agreed on half the asked price. I have spent a bit on it since, (locker's, stainless exhaust, new radiator, heavy duty clutch, engine tuned by Berima diesel...). I would not want any other vehicle thanks.
