  • The Hansons-Brooks Distance Project is a team of elite American distance runners that was founded in 1999 by coaches and running store owners, Kevin and Keith Hanson. Frustrated with the lack of success in American distance running, the Hansons decided to invest in the sport by creating a team that focused on the power of teamwork.
    The team started with three relatively unknown athletes who lived together, trained together, and competed together. Since then, the team has grown to nearly seven times its original size and has produced two Olympic marathoners in Brian Sell and Des Linden. The team's success has helped shift American long distance training culture towards a "better together" mindset.
    The Hansons-Brooks Distance Project is still producing athletes with shots at making the 2024 US Olympic Marathon Trials and the U.S. Olympic team for the Summer Games in Paris.
    In 2023, the team is celebrating a 20-year partnership with Brooks Running. We paid the team a visit in Michigan to capture a workout and get a little history lesson ahead of the 2023 Boston Marathon.
    Video edited and produced by Xavier Gallo.

    It's so weird to watch this now....10 years later after being an athlete in this Project and filming athletes like Desi (along with other team workout videos at this very location!).

    Really loved this video! Hopefully those new Brooks super shoes get released soon ( 2:17 in the video ). The Hyperion Tempo and Hyperion Max are both great shoes, but the Hyperion Elite 3 feels kinda lackluster when compared to other super shoes

    awesome video! I hope that keith Hanson gets on the horn with brooks shoe designers to suggest development of a supershoe.... I know a ton of runners who train in brooks, race in nike.

      We do have a super shoe - the Hyperion Elite. Brooks has a really awesome team of designers working on our race shoes out in Seattle, so stay tuned for updates as we get closer to the Trials

      @@oliviapratt975 I will stay tuned! I've been a long time fan of both brooks and Hansons-Brooks. Best of luck in the run up to the trials!

      @@jameschaves5723 I just saw in an interveiw with CJ Albertson that they have a new (unreleased) supershoe coming out this year. He was pretty openly negative about the Hyperion elite 3 from last year, saying that his Boston shoe is much better. I will be interested to see what that means.

    Be interested to know whether marathon pace here is current PB or target race pace? I get why it seems like a good idea to dial in 10s faster but still feel 9 mile of work at current PB pace would be less risky and as beneficial...

    • @krruns4165
      @krruns4165 Před rokem

      Based on numbers given in the video , for example JP Flavin PB of 2.14.55 is 5.09 pace and asked to do 4.52 which is 17s/mile faster...

      We were running 10 seconds under our goal race pace!

      As with any training cycle, there's work done at, above, or below marathon pace. There's definitely workouts in the hansons buildup that are at marathon pace. I think the goal of it this is to callous the legs to make marathon pace feel easier.

      @@mattarmelagos184 yeah I think I assumed this work out was done really close to race day but then realised I don't think it's clear when it was done in relation to race day

      I have heard people use the logic that running MP a little fast in practice helps approximates the way it will feel when you are fatigued in the last 10k
