Lyrics:
[Verse 1]
Well excuse me, take a few minutes, to mellow out
Big Daddy Kane is on the mic and I'mma tell about
A minimum length, of rhymes of strength
And power, so listen to the man of the hour
Flow and go to a slow tempo and you know
Sing ho, swing low, then yo the show
Will go on, as I perform
Transformin on stage like a Decepticon
But I'm not animated like a cartoon
I'm for real, shootin lyrics like a harpoon
Across the crowd, the listeners, the spectators
So let's groove with the smooth operator
[Hook]
"Cause I'm so smooth..."
The B-I-G, D-A-double-D-Y-K-A-N-E
I'm good and plenty, servin many and any
Competition, wishin' for an expedition
I'm straight up dissin' and dismissin', listen
Rappers act so wild, and love to profile
Frontin hard but ain't got no style
I give nightmares to those who compete
Freddy Kreuger, walkin' on Kane Street
Confuse and lose abuse and bruise the crews
Who choose to use my name wrong, they pay dues
Destruction from the exterminator
But in a calm manner, cause I'm a smooth operator
[Hook]
"Cause I'm so smooth..."
[Verse 2]
Now girls step up to this
One simple kiss, and it's over, Miss
Sold to nice dreamers, high as the price seem
Girlfriend, you been scooped like ice cream
So just swing or fling a gathering, try to cling
Cause It's a Big Daddy Thing
And I'm lovin em right, word is bond
So just play Marvin Gaye and Let's Get It On
I make it real good like Dr. Feelgood
To make sure that my point is understood
That when it comes to this there's none greater
Sincerely yours... the smooth operator
[Hook]
"Cause I'm so smooth..."
[Verse 3]
Now ain't that the pot callin' the kettle black
Sayin' I'm a new jack, you need to be smacked
The smooth way I say 'em and the way I display 'em
To make them sound different in a way that's gifted
And hey I'm, makin sure every lyric is done fine
And I make one line, bright as the sunshine
Attack you like Robitussin on a cough
If you know like I know -- step off
Competition, I'mma get rid of
You can't get a bit of, so just consider
A break or rest, vacation, hibernation
And make way for my smooth operation
I'm a smooth operator
[Hook]
"Cause I'm so smooth..."
Ahhhhh yeahhh, and you don't stop
Genuine for '89
And I still ain't half-steppin, peace!

Peep game!
U arè so right 😊
When it comes down to it.
Big daddy Kane is the best lyricist of all time.
Kane has an unmatchable swagger about him, elevates his already dope rhymes
One of the best samples I can remember. This beat is legendary.
ken burke risen to the top, classic. Dougie fresh and mary j Blige sampled this beat as well
what are the names of the songs with the same sample?

Mary Jane Girls, all night long. Take a listen G
This sample is from The Mary Jane Girls "All Night Long" and Isaac Hayes "Do Your Thing", with some adlibs from Marvin Gay "Sexual Healing"
only 2 other guys can breath this guy's air.
Back in the day I was working for a company that did warranty work for several companies. The music situation at the warehouse was crazy.Everyone trying to drown out everybody. We finally agreed that each of us got an hour. Our young Black man blared out Big Daddy Kane's "Pimpin' Ain't Easy".A bunch of White suburban guys started diggin' on this unknown sound.I went to see Kane with James. He was surprised when I expressed an interest in seeing his show in Boston.I had to buy a new suit.Ive seen all kinds of live music. His show was tight.Kane came out dressed sharp.Tasteful tailored suit. His singers made you thank God for having eyes.He introduced the singers, the band and thanked the audience for being there.Tremendous show.Inspite of being checked for weapons outside the venue,I saw no problems between anybody.I had no problems with anyone.I did have people ask if I was lost but all said in a friendly manner.
Memphis checking in June 20, 2023. One of my favorites from my brother. 41 yrs. Of age and I was jammin this as a kid. Love you Kane!!!!!
This dude really does ooze of smoothness tho not to mention the bars
Like if you TRULY miss this era of #HipHop. True MC'n.

Freddy Kruger walkin down kane street! Straight fire!
BDK was Big L's inspiration. His momma bought him and his brothers DJ equipment. His older brother Don was always the DJ and L at 5 years old, he was always the rapper. They used to bring their DJ equipment out on the stoop of their home so lil' hunnies would come up the block. Don killin' the turntables and Big L would grab the mic and started rappin' Big Daddy Kane songs. He liked BDK and knew all his rhymes. Listening to this song just made me realize how much inspiration Big L gained from BDK. Mainly the multisyllabic rhyming. Big L progressed and his style evolved. Large vocab, multisyllabic rhymes, single, double, and triple entendre's. Clever metaphors, punchlines and much more. Big L is my favorite rapper. So it's only right to bump some BDK. After all Big L might have been unheard of without Kane. R.I.P. Big L. 🕊🥀
Ain't no one as smooth as Big Daddy Kane
The first rapper to spit game to a chic in a song, the first smoothest coolest rapper in a video😎
What a time to be alive. Original hip hop
The use of Mary Jane Girls is brilliant. Great production.
His rhyming and wordplay is untouchable. Truly one of the best to ever do it😎
Kane was the smoothest, rhyme flowing, best dressed rapper ever. His videos were sharp as he dressed.
I always saw Kane as the Michael Jordan of Hip Hop. He always embodied all the elements of the culture.
Good analogy
tsmith11 true
his prime was too short, MJ dominated for 10 years
He is the Wilt Chamberlain of rap
Imran Teimur I thought Kool g rap was in my book
Big Daddy Kane is the undisputed champion of hip hop!! Hip hop may have evolved into so many sub genres, but respect the illest MC ever. He laid the foundation to any kind and every kind of hip hop out there!
Out of my top 10 rappers ever, 3 of them are 80s rappers. Slick Rick, Rakim and BGK. His style, delivery, flow and storytelling skills are immense.
one of the greatest of all the times without a doubt
Big Daddy is king nothing like cruising listening to big daddy
Cause ima smooth operator. Big Daddy cane had all the ladies.Good music never fades it just gets better during this pandemic.
True 😊
Big daddy Kane = Legend #nuffsaid

Listening to this song again after so many years made me realize how many other rap songs sampled several different parts of this beat. Just a smooth dope ass classic.
Kane is that type of MC that you kick back and listen to on a Friday. Happy Friday everyone!
This the smoothest baseline ive ever heard in my life. My jaw dropped lol
AverageMudskipper : Thank Mr Rick James

The Breaks and Samples: All Night Long by Mary Jane Girls, Do Your Thing by Isaac Hayes, Sexual Healing by Marvin Gaye, The Champ by The Mohawks and Impeach The President by The Honey Drippers. SUPER TIGHT!!!!, A+++! and 5 Stars!!!

SMOOTH OPERATOR!
My theme song when I came on the block 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤
Big Daddy Kane still my favorite MC of all-time. He ushered in the Golden Age along with Rakim, KRS-ONE, Kool G, and saw it through. He was NEVER a gangster and never claimed to be. He was the man regardless. "NOW TELL WHOOOOO Is the man, WITH THE HIGH POTENT LYRICS NO RAPPER COULD EVER STAND". You don't just fall into a nude photo shoot with Madonna and Naomi Campbell. Kane was THE PINNACLE at the start of the 90's. The ladies loved him, men wanted to be him. The Bed STUY Battle rapper with supreme lyricism who could perform: The SMOOTH OPERATOR.
81 i was born we had the best fashion and dances i said wat i said 💯💯💯💯
is that maryjane girls "all night long" sample so dope
Your absolutely right and I'd play either one as loud as i could
*AND A BIT IF SEXUAL HEALING BY MARVIN GAYE. IT'S A BREATH BEFORE MARVIN GAYE SINGS, ""BAYYYYBE I'M LIKE AN OVEN*
Mary Jane Girls actually borrowed the bassline from Keni Burke's "Risin' To The Top" but no one except bass players know this and not many of them know. I love this bassline so much I had to know who played it first.
Yes sir bring back memories of summer nights at club
I'm here 6/4/2024 to say that Kane is the original God MC
Happy Birthday to one of the greatest MCs of all times.
Big daddy Kane the man in the rap game
one of the greatest pioneer of hip hop
If CZcams had been around in the 80s, we'd need two separate lines to count all the digits from the Viewer Counter.
Damn son
Also the singer Al B sure
Transform on stage like a decipticon
yolanda del campo haha ..decipticon...old school Brooklyn.
That Decepticon line!🔥🔥🔥👍
Best MC from Brooklyn. Yup I took it there.
Jim Richalds who’s your dealer again. Biggie and even Jay-z was better than big daddy Kane.
Indeed...
Todays rappers wouldn’t be a match for battling this legend. It’s a shame where hip hop has gone 😔
The best Big Daddy Kane
I was a teenager when Big Daddy Kane was at the height of his power & I wanted to grow up to be like BDK. He was hard, smooth, devastating flow with dope lyrics, he could dance and got ALL the women. I miss those days of hip-hop when us youngsters had some good rappers to actually look up to.
I'm 23 and I still listen to hip hop.. I miss the samples and the boom bap
the last dancing rapper, I'll take big daddy Kane, over puff daddy anytime.
Yep ... over Puff AND Hammer.
@@johndrake2729 He's a better rapper than they are/were but can't touch them dancing.

Kane was definitely the best simile/metaphor rapper ever.....
Matt Merkle
You said 'was' then went on say to say 'ever'. That doesn't make sense. He was the best but there a far better lyricists out there these days. That's not undercutting what Big Daddy did for the rap game.
Kane was the best, PERIOD!
Man, this brings back memories!! The good old days!
The G.O.A.T👑 🐐

This is hip hop at its finest..... without the swearing and dissing women.

This is so classic especially because how weird is it to see a rapper do choreography? (and not curse on every other bar) You'll never see that again. You gotta be hardcore. That's what sells now.But i wish it would make a comeback.
شغل الي
+Tam L This dude more hardcore then 99% of the rappers today, you dont have to curse to be hardcore, you just gotta rhyme from a place of strength and confidence. Which Big Daddy Kane does.
+Dino Z i got a brother that's calm and plain and he goes by the name Big Daddy Kane but back in the days he was nothing like that.

Big Daddy Kane, like a boss. True master of lyrics !
I want to go back to 1989 !!!!
Me too!! I was 13 and in junior high school. Those were good times!! We could go to school and not be afraid of a school shooting because that wasn't going on then!!
1989 I was 7 years old and my family just bought a brand new 2600 sq ft home in California. I would do anything to go back to 1989. Everything was perfect.
Big Daddy..the king is here!!!
My idol I'm lil kane
People in the comments keep talking about how Hip hop is dead now? Every generation has good music, just look for it.
When you an old school nigga like me this shit stay on rotation. I’ll be 90 and can’t remember my grandkids names but I’ll sure as hell know every word to Smooth Operator.

only bdk can tear verses up like this in the 80s
Krs? Rakim? Maybe other people like doom, rza, dre, need I say more. There were plenty of good artists that started mid to late 80s .
Kane had style & flow when he rock tha mic
Nothing like the real hip hop 2019!!💃💃💃💃
