THE FIRST VERSION I S FROM A 1957 DECCA LP CALLED SAMMY SWINGS WITH A SY OLIVER CHART! THE SECOND VERSION IS FROM THE 1962 LP WHAT KIND OF FOOL AM I AM OTHER SHOWSTOPPERS WITH A MARTY PAICH CHART! - Hudba
A close friend of my dad's took me to see various wonderful people, like Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Ella, Oscar Peterson etc when I was 16, I'd liked Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis the same as my friends at the time. Then in 1963, he took me to see Sammy Davis Jr at the Prince of Wales! When we came out, he asked me what I thought, I was speechless! After that we went to at least 3 shows every time Sammy came over. While I bought his albums, usually backed by musicians from Basie's band and loved them, when he was on stage, he was a force of nature, electrifying, adorable, mesmerising just fantastic. His rapport with drummer Michael Silva and Johnny Mendoza was telepathic. I loved him, still do.
I love Sammy's voice...a great singer...a great entertainer!
Just keep coming back time and again to this rendition - absolutely superb - this man was so underrated, I think Sinatra was the only one who truly recognised his talent.
Great singer. Great articulation. Wonderful song. Sammy Davis, unparalleled talent
I love Sammy Davis Jr. what a voice! What phrasing! I feel he’s been very underrated! He surpasses anyone today! Yes! Including Michael Jackson
The most incredible all-round performer ever.
Amazing what he could do on records & in concert
HE WAS JUST THE BEST,THE VERY BEST
Miss that era of real music, terribly.
such a rich voice!!!!
Samy cantaba maravillosamente.
Where did great music like this go? I keep going back to this kind of music. His voice is Wonderful.💞
Talent no comes near Sammy is a Legend
A fireball of entertainment!
His voice and the orchestra.... this is art!
What a great post. The lyrics are poetic genius and the melody is timeless. SDjr's interpretations are marvelous. SD was one of the top, pop music male vocalists of the 20th century. His multiple talents marked him a truly gifted entertainer.
One the greatest! Sammy Davis! :) What a voice. What style and class!
The little guy with the big voice!
What talent ! This man is incredible.
Boy what a voice. Used to watch him on TV singing in 60s and 70s. This was a song my.mom used to sing in the house when I was growing up. She and her brothers in late 30s played and sang in NYC at clubs with the likes of clause tnornhill and the Dorsey Brothers. Are 2 That I remember. My.mom was 16 at the time. Gave it up to help support the family. She had a beautiful voice. But had her memories.
Begin The Beguine music is a great success and Sammy Davis Jr sings very well.
I saw Sammy live in Melbourne in 1969 and never saw the point in seeing any other entertainer from then on. Nobody could match up to that talent.
My favorite entertainer! R.I.P., Sammy. ❤️🎶
Simply the greatest of all time!
there was such an outpouring of grief for Michael Jackson - not much for one the greatest and yes better than Michael Jackson
I LOVE SAMMY!
Damn. I like the second version better, but they're both stunning. What a performer!
Sammy Davis jr was and always will be, one of The Greats.
patrick smyth I call him the great
Look at Tony and Janet! They are in awe. Tony obviously feels privileged to be where he was. Fantastic!
That is such a. wonderful compliment and I agree!
Thank you so much for these - - had come across them while looking for the beautiful Johnny Mathis version. I do love these two SDJ versions. Such great arrangements with a gifted performer.
still great
THE BEST OF THE BEST
good point Richard , if everybody respected human rights ,no need for civil rights.very perceptive.
I didn't know that was Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh! I thought they were 2 starsstruck audience members. Sammy Davis Jr. was an incredible dancer, singer, actor. The triple threat!!
Rosalyn Samuels a
ein klassiker der jazz-area und sammy macht es zu seinem
Duet of singer and guitar and when it’s Davis and Almeida - soooo on point

Great performer and singer!
Mount Rushmore of 20th Century Entertainers
mustangred - dont think you quite got my meaning - it was Sinatra that opened doors for his talent to be displayed - days of Civil rights remember - he gave him opportunities because he knew how immense his talent was.
The 1957 version is a tad more to my liking. But, the 1962 recording is creative. Sam had fantastic pipes!
Eu amava a voz de Sami Davis
I think Eddie Fisher is there also
Mr Entertainer:))
Um show mam eterno em nossos coraçôes.
Love it
@lebarosky Yes, I would feel privileged to know I was going home with Janet Lee too. Great version. Sammy rules. Love the eye patch over the glass eye.
Long before Elvis, Liberace, Cher, Madonna, etc. The original one name act. SAMMY!
parabens sao lindos
Dr. Carson should do a pilgrimage to Mr. Davis, Jr. The point being: Everything Sammy did was in the name of human freedom, just like what Dr. Carson is doing. Dr. Carson does this and he will electrify the world!
+Richard E. Dillon Let's leave Sammy out of your politics. He isn't here to speak for himself.
What does a Tony Curtis haircut got to do with this wonderful clip of a musical genius?
For those who might not know it; when Sammy had his awful car accident, Tony Curtis and Jeff Chandler went to the hospital to see him. Curtis place a Star of David in Sammy's hand just before he went into surgery. Hence Sammy's conversion to Judaism.
ropanueva As did Frank Sinatra who brought Sammy to Frank's home in Palm Springs and nursed him back to health, telling Sammy, "now you're going to be a superstar, stop feeling sorry for yourself."
Sammy Davis Júnior estaria para Frank Sinatra assim como Little Richard está para Elvis Presley?
hi, desmond! great cover! surprise for me. do you speak spanish?
What year was this record released?
I apologize if I have offended you. This is the best I can do. I am disabled and stuck in front of this computer.
@MsBedwell Er, what? He was one of the most popular and highest paid entertainers in the world, with a career stretching literally decades in everything from Broadway to recordings to TV to movies. I'm pretty sure he was recognized as a great talent by a whole lot of people. Nice try at commentary. Too bad it failed.
