- This is an early review of LEGO Ninjago set 71799 Ninjago City Markets! This set officially releases on June 1st, 2023 as a part of the Ninjago: Dragons Rising wave, and contains 21 minifigures: Dragons Rising Lloyd, Dragons Rising Nya, Detective Zane, Blacksmith Kai, Urban Arin, Urban Sora, Miss Demeanor, Hounddog McBrag, Chamille, Dareth, Cyrus Borg, Racer 7 / Blazey H. Speed, Gayle Gossip, Vinnie Fulson, Sushimi Chef, a baker, a street vendor, a boat vendor, a tea vendor, a Borg Store Employee, and a dojo kid.

31:34 That´s Tony, Milton Dyer´s friend. He was seen in the episode "Ninjago Confidential" when Zane and Pixal were looking for clues to find Dyer.

Yes, NCG stands for ninjago city gardens. There was an arrow print pointing down which leads you to the gardens
Weirdly the pathway doesn't lead to NCG, because it can only be accessed through the path in the front

Something that stood out to me is that this set feels really reminiscent to the 2015-2017 WilFilm era of the show. The markets themselves really remind me of Stiix, and the very specific color scheme has that particular color pallet that was between the original Ninjago run (2011-13) and the very dark Oni Trilogy color pallet. It evokes a very nostalgic feel all around with its design from the Borg store to the several stores, it just makes me happy to look at it. It also makes me quite happy to have another full on Dareth minifig after 8 freaking years, the legend needed to return in a big way, and so he did with a gigantic karaoke club like in the show!
The poster with Jay's mech and the word REBUILD could be a reference to Evangelion.
Neon Genesis Evangelion is an anime with "mechs" that look very similiar to Jay's, and "Rebuild of Evangelion" is the title of the reboot movies
Also theres definitely another joke there with Lego - building...
That cleaning company sing is the same window cleaning company that Lloyd worked for in the beginning of Crystalized
4:50 You really could be on to something with “The Cookie Crumbles” line as the way her stance is in the photo closely resembles the portrait Jay had of her in Crystallized at the lighthouse even though in that picture she was wearing a pink kimono and it had a blue background, still they look pretty similar!

31:31 I think the name Tom is supposed to stand for Tommy Anderson, as a nice nod for making ninjago what it is today. We wouldn’t be here rn if it wasn’t for Tommy, so that’s what I think the word Tom means there

17:09 seems to be a reference to Wojira. Remember, she was here before the realm of ninjago was created by the FSM
As for 18:26 it's a reference to the ninjago movie because when the ninjas and Garmadon went for the ultimate ultimate weapon, their vehicle crashed because of a goat who was in the middle of the road
And finally 22:30 seems to be a reference to season 7 because of the fact dragon wings were on a clock and remember in that season Kai and Nya had a fusion dragon
The goat is not a reference to ninjago. But rather a Lego reference due to it rarity because it only came in a 2011 Kingdoms set.

The minifigures are amazing and their are some of them that we have been waiting for for a very long time
I also love how they made the open area of the markets very realistic and not cramped with stuff because that wouldn't feel very realistic
I also like the usage of parts which is what these type of sets are used for
All together this is an amazing set that if you can you should get ❤
I believe the snowberry pie reference is from the first few episodes of dragons rising, where Arin sells snowberry pies to make money for parts, he also bribes that frog dude with one to get into the mech race lol
Fun fact!, Kai's apartment is refferencing, well, Kai's apartment from the quest for the lost powers book!
23:27 I’m really disappointed by this. In the set images on Lego’s website they must have removed that whole wall because they showed that room has like 6 studs of interior space, not 2. So, this is a great set but there’s definitely some stuff I need to customize. Make this room bigger, give Gayle Gossip the accurate hair piece from the Series 8 Fairy CMF figure, and give Racer 7 as accurate as of a torso & legs as I can find.
The original hair piece was retired a few years ago sadly.

Racer 7 should have been made properly. I am a fan of her original name more than her crystalized name
Gayle Gossip and Vinny are awesome, there should be a NGTV helicopter set
Borg Store employees should be in more sets
The next Ninjago city sets should have bigger buildings lilke Laughys Karaoke Club, or there should just be a Borg Tower set.

Arin and Sora's apartment is a letdown. Especially since they're supposed to have a penthouse

Having that Starfarer poster makes me REALLY Hope Jay will get his inheritance soon, maybe the show will reference Cliff Gordon's anniversary of his death or when the first Starfarer came out? Pre season 8 Ninjago City didn't have a zoo, but maybe after the Merge they get one? I flippin love we got Detective Zane, that was the biggest shock. I wonder if they're still working on the hair mold for Sora and we'll get it in the next wave of Dragon's rising sets? Chamille looks like she works at a hair salon, but it's probably just a front for her thieving "business". Wonderful review!

Tom is Milton Dyer's friend from s12. He works at Laughy's and we also see him in s12 (the ep where we see Detective Zane), and the pic of Dareth and the other guy is Tom.
The hair piece that sora has is the same hair she had when she was young in the show

Another great addition to the Ninjago city line! Fantastic minifigure selection and great detailing throughout the set. I have to say though that the bottom part of the set is too open for my taste. All the Ninjago city sets are bright and colorful display pieces, but the amount of open walkways in this set adds too much grey to the set. Most of the other ninjago city sets correct this by adding waterways and foliage, but this one doesn't. I dont think its a major issue because that space can primarily be used to place minifigs, but I'm still planning on modifiying the set by adding some plant life or path texturing to really let the base of the set pop. Cant wait to add this expansion to my city when it releases!!!

I tried to avoid as much spoilers as possible to make the surprise effect even better, just finished building it today and its the best lego set i've ever seen and had. The references and the minifigs are so cool

Maybe to make the urban figures better they could have included a hoody piece in flame yellow for arin and soras top mask piece so you at least get some cat ears

Also If they had made Kai's Legs use the same color from the show, even if the torso isn't fully accurate, it would still be a better version with just a simple color swap.

Third review for this set im watching, but this one is really in depth compared to the others, cant get enough of this set just yet! So far its still probably my least favorite ninjago city set but we'll see if this vid bric-I mean.. changes my mind
