This was quite an interesting video. It’s a shame so few of the Furness Railway locos survive, especially since the only preserved ones are more early Victorian in design.
I love this video because I love my favourite character Edward's real life counterparts. I actually had to agree with you on this part, 3:05 - 3:20 I just couldn't imagine why this engine wasn't preserved. Anyway, I built my own K2 out of Lego to keep the memory of these engines alive, if you want to check it out.
Well the only reason this class is popular is because of Edward, but he was created over a decade after they became extinct so the demand to preserve one didn’t really exist back then.
@@joshuaW5621 they must have been experimental engines, better engines were running nicer and that was why they had to scrap them without thinking of preserving one
@@EricTheUsefulEngineNr11 I'm partly one of the K2's (But my design would be that and a LNER A1/A3/A0 Hybrid which I would look almost like Henry but a K2 Cab boiler and smoke box with probably LNER smoke Deflectors and a corridor tender which is a strange Thurobred Design but I'm calling it the AK20)
@@EricTheUsefulEngineNr11 also another k2 I know is named Mickey I know weird name, but that’s his name also, he’s also a rescue engine, was also bought by the Sir Topham Hatt, that we have now grandfather and another one that looks like James, but here appeared in the railway series. His name is Eagle. He’s also a nice engine. It was built in 1900. Edward was built in 1898.
3:54 Thomas actually aired in 1984. Great video anyways. To be fair I personally don’t think we need the K2s in preservation because Edward is already popular enough to keep their legacy alive, even though he was created over a decade after the class became extinct.
Just so you know, the 4-4-0 in that museum is actually a Dutch NS 1600 (NRS 107.) It had a similar design to the K2 and was built by the same company but was built before the K2's, so it's more or less a similar design but not the same class.
I really liked how you delve into information like speed and fuel capacity but what kind of brakes did they have, i know they most likely had Air brakes bu the tike they were built but it doesn't mean they didn't get fitted with vaccum brakes
So it is true that James and Edward are like brothers (James being the Younger Brother and Edward being the Older Brother well character wise not Class wise)

No one really gives any care for this steam engine and little did everyone know these former express engines would be the bases for one of the first class of engine in a certain book
