    I reckon the 903’s were one of the best sounding engines (for a 4 stroke) period and remember them powering a range of trucks along with the myriad Detroits (and UD’s) in tippers to coaches back in the day, I remember fondly going on a few trips with my older brothers father in law down to Orbost in Victoria’s East Gippsland region as a young bloke when he drove for the Manufacturers Bottle Company which was a division of Carlton & United Breweries Ltd. Back in the early 1970’s when he drove the Leyland Mandator collecting crates of empty beer bottles to be taken back to Melbourne to be put thru the bottle washer to be reused when they were nearing the end of their service lives and recall it being a reliable but noisy droning old girl and then he got a new prime mover, an International ACCO 3070 A with the Cummins 903 V8 and what a grouse unit (I thought anyway) with its Road Ranger man it sounded and looked the ducks nuts back back then and handled the loads with absolute ease, great memories indeed!

    I remember the days when Lindsay brothers had a fleet of those LNT,s bagging you up at a dollar twenty +, they were putting one over every week to, always liked the 903 its amazing to think that the 903 is over 50 yrs old, they still make them in the states for the military (in tanks) putting out 600 + hp with air to air after cooling and a 750 bhp twin turbo version, shame they dont put them in trucks anymore. keep up the good work steve.

    • @stevesplacedownunder
      @stevesplacedownunder  Před rokem

      Thanks Ned yes I believe they went well. I think they were only 290 hp in the Louisville. I may be wrong. I was told they were banned in some of the states in the USA because of emissions but again I could be wrong. Hopefully I can get one on the road. That’s big horsepower in the tanks compared to the trucks

      @@stevesplacedownunder Another good upload. The natural 903s were 295hp in the LNT 9000s and 320hp in the ACCO 3070s later they were 350hp and called VT350s this was around the Cummins formula period in the early to mid 1980s when Detroit's went silver.

    Hey Steve, I worked in coal mining for 13 years. Some underground and the rest on the surface. I did about 4 years shunting and loco driving moving the coal from one place to another, the Hunslet locos had 388HP Cummins engines in them that sounded great. One is now in the National Coalmining Museum being renovated. I will try to take some footage of it running next time I go to the museum. If I can arrange with the mate who is doing the work on it, he will fire the old girl up for me. Cheers Steve,take care, Norm in the UK.

    Great video again Steve. The Ford is a great Truck to drive . You should always figure on a short startup video when it's a Cummins, they seem to have no problem firing up. Oh by the way mate those were my beers you found on the seat in that dump truck😃 Cheers!

      @stevesplacedownunder  Před rokem

      Gday Neil. Yes mate they always start up easy. I’ve never spent any time in a ford really, apart from the one next to it. I was going down the road to another property getting water from the river and filling my dam when the bush fires where on. It’s the same truck really, just a bit better cab. I have a video coming up, not sure when, of a 250 Cummins, really old one in a cab over transtar. It will be interesting because it would be over 20 years since it started so will see how long it takes. I thought when I opened the door on the dump truck, these are Neil’s bottles, but you weren’t here so I had them. They were lovely

      Is the rust pretty bad around the cab or is it fixable since that Ford runs good. 20yrs since the next truck had started, probably a 30min video since it will be a Cummins 😀
