11 LANDINGS VIEW FROM ABOVE at Madeira Airport 01.02.2020
On this video, I went to a viewpoint called Pico do Facho, where you can find some lights that indicate to the pilots the hill on the right when landing on runway 23. I stand closeby one of those lights for the first half of the video, and then I went to the viewpoint to take some coffee and make the remaining footage.
At this location, I'm 1129FT high and 1000 meters in a straight line to the beginning of the runway, 1500 meters to touchdown zone.

A nice alternative view but always liked, preferred even the other end too . being able to see the dramatic curved approach and the control surfaces moving to duck and weave between the air currents.

Yes, I had my scanner close to me.
The backdrop at that time of the day is awesome. Half of the runway is a big bridge built over the sea, one of the biggest constructions ever made in Portugal.

O Aeroporto da Madeira e a sua última extensão é uma obra de engenharia que recebeu muitos prémios a nível mundial. Está construído entre duas cidades, Santa Cruz e Machico. Cerca de metade da pista está sobre pilares que foram construídos sobre o mar.
É realmente fantástico!

You got a bad day, normally the weather is pretty nice, is not common to have so much wind in Madeira.
