Gaza protests: Quebec judge rejects McGill injunction request to dismantle encampment

  • In yet another victory for protesters, a Quebec Superior Court judge has rejected an injunction request to dismantle a weeks-old encampment by pro-Palestinian activists at McGill University.
Justice Marc St.-Pierre wrote in his decision that McGill failed to prove an urgent need to take down the encampment.
The encampment began April 27 amid a wave of similar demonstrations across campuses in the United States over the Israel-Hamas conflict.
As Gloria Henriquez reports, with negotiations between protesters and the university at a standstill, what happens next remains unclear.

Because they are not blocking traffic or disturbing the residents in the area. All summer school activities are resuming as normal. The professors and staff at McGill have not signed any petition indicating that they are in support of having the protestors forcibly removed. Some of them are Jewish and stand right with the protestors. With over 35K dead, some of these students have decided that Canada should do more to stop Bibi from attacking starving, homeless people in Gaza, who are unarmed and have nothing to do with Hamas. 15k of deaths in Gaza were children too young to even vote for Hamas. I do not think divestiture is the right demand to be making upon McGill and for this reason do not support the protest, but I do support that they have not let this go forgotten. They should require that Joly create an international coalition to force Israel and Hamas to a ceasefire.
Why should we not require foreign, non-essential visitors to not get vaccinated against a highly contagious disease, during the height of a pandemic? That's what the law stated. And many Canadians got vaccinated in order to travel to the US.
