    Live audio 1972
On July 8th 1972 Lou Reed performed three of his VU songs at the Royal Festival Hall, London, South Bank. The concert was for a Friends Of The Earth/Save The Whale concert compered by Kenny Everett. David Bowie and The Spiders From Mars backed him on these songs. (Always wondered if this would have happened had not Ken Pitt given David the first Velvets LP Acetate back in '67). A week later we all saw our first Lou Reed gig at The Kings Cross Cinema, London. His band this time were to become known as The Tots. This was a period when Lou would introduce his songs. Transformer was released and it cemented him in the UK. Like Arthur Lee and Iggy Pop he already had a legacy of songs that are still timeless today. Later in the year he performed in the US as well. This is a live take from one of those shows. The most stunning is a recording LIVE at the Ultrasonic Recording Studio, Hempstead, New York, December 26, 1972

Indeed. Lou can put many different nuances into the mix when performing his songs. I think his brain works like Bob Dylan. Also he can can put in some killer tunes that ease the depth of the lyric content. Sort of like nursery rhymes from pre Victorian period.

Absolutely. I've always wondered how far back Lou had this written. We all assume it's 3 or 4 years after the Warhol early period but the structure of this song is as inspirational as those earlier years.

I like this version due to it is the most upbeat of all the others I have heard. Reed is really keeping it real, genuine and I detect some improvisation on this one and I love that. Jamming it out more than usual. The only negative response I have is Reed really let it go but ended it too abruptly without gearing it down slowly for a smooth ending.

    Standin ‘ on a corner
Suitcase 🧳 in my hand 🖐
Jack’s in his car 🚗 says to Jane, who’s in her vest
Me, babe, I’m in a rock ‘n’ roll band
Ridin ‘ in a Stutz Bearcat, Jim
    Those were different times
And the poets studied rows of verse
And all the ladies rolled their eyes 👀
Sweet Jane, Sweet Jane, Sweet Jane
Now, Jack, he is a banker
And Jane, she is a clerk
And the both of them are saving up their money 💴...
Then they come home 🏠 from work
Sittin ‘ by the fire 🔥...
Radio 📻 just played a little classical music 🎧 for you kids
The March of the wooden soldiers
And you can hear 👂 Jack say
Sweet Jane, Sweet Jane, Sweet Jane
Some people like to go out dancing 🕺
And other people (like us) they gotta work
And there’s always some evil 🦹‍♂️ mothers
They’ll tell you life is full of dirt
And the women never really faint
And the villans always blink their eyes 👀
And the children 👶 are the only ones who blush
‘Cause life is just to die
But, anyone who has a heart 💓
Wouldn’t want to turn around and break it
And anyone who ever played the part
He wouldn’t want to turn around and fake it
    Sweet Jane

Could you tell us the date and the venue of this track recorded in 1972? I found it is not in Festival Hall 8th July.
