The Devil's Chariot | DCS Mi-24 Cinematic

- During the Soviet-Afghan war the Mi-24 'HIND' proved to be one of, if not the, most feared weapons in Afghanistan. The Soviets nicknamed it the 'Flying Tank' - The rebels called it 'Shaitan-Arba' - 'The Devil's Chariot'.
This video is a love letter to the Mi-24 and to all those who have put blood, sweat, and tears into the development of this module. I'm a jet guy, but the HIND has taken top place as my favourite module in DCS. I highly recommend you make use of the new free-to-play system to try it out for yourself, and I hope you'll appreciate the effort and attention to detail put into this module.

oh fuck, how can someone be so good at this, I almost never manage to get the shots in my cinematics the way I want. I wish this was longer, I really like how it has a coherent storyline instead of random shots put together that aren't coherent.

That landing was tight. With practice, and learning the engine and aircraft sounds, and flight regimes you can get the Mi-24 on the ground clean and fast.

Dude, at 1:56 when the Hind popped up, looking at that guy who fired the Stinger. There might not be any sight on this Earth that says "oh shit" more than a Hind with the rockets pointed at you. It's like sitting on the toilet and coming face to face with the T-Rex. It's. Just. Over.

Dude, this was incredible! The way you set up the shots to tell a story, ducking behind a mountain and dodging a missile, the mi8 going down amidst a field of tracers, absolutely amazing. Hands-down one of the best cinematics I've ever seen. Great job!

I came back to this, watched it dozens of times now. This is so damn good! Music, the BASS, pace, edit, story, camera ...... the piano ending but then back into rhythmic bass rotor beat as finale. PERFECT!

Thanks for the kind words! It takes place on the northern coast of Cyprus on the Syria map - That area has modelled cliffs that you see in the video. Hope that helps!

Perhaps.. haha, no I tried using the Russian jeep in game but the textures were all off and the tire kept stuttering so I just resorted to the Land Rover. Good spot and thanks for the kind words!
Летчики в афганистане перестали летать на штурмовку на низких высотах из-за наличия ПЗРК у душманов. Это же насколько мне известно стало причиной установки столь мощного пушечного вооружения на Ми-24, вместо 12.7 пулемета - пушка обладала лучшими баллистическими характеристиками.
Вертолет было трудно поразить на большой высоте и к тому же у него было значительно больше времени на маневр уклонения. Но и это не всегда помогало.
Слава богу что у душманов почти не присутствовало радарных систем ПВО, иначе вертушки ходили бы только у земли.

@@LAWest I see google translate "штурмовка" in a wrong way sometimes. I mean "engaging of ground targets by forces of close-range aviation", I think it's something like "close air support" in terms of NATO.

What perplexes me is why do Russian use Land Rovers ? And I think the Mujahideen should have used pickup trucks, not Russian vans.
The land rovers were used instead of the Russian ‘jeep’ asset as its textures were all over the place, with their tires only completing half a rotation before snapping back to a position and they look so similar to each other that I was willing to make the compromise. There aren’t any high quality pickups in game (except Russian ones and obviously that was a no-go) and the vans were also land rovers so that made more sense. Hope that clears things up.
