Another great episode! Manish’s description of the Bond film car chase was epic and really put into context how great it was... I’ll be searching it out tomorrow. As a child of the 60’s, for me nothing beats the Jaguar Mk2 dashboard with its awesome row of gauges and tactile toggle switches.
A segment for the future: the best Batmobile
I enjoy these every Friday evening. Manish always has the best taste.
This is definitely the best car podcast out there, well done guys.
Great podcast chaps - highlight of the week. Chapeau!
‘Bread’ - The short film with Monkey in his 512TR and linen suit is an all time car film for me.
The world needs to protect Manish Pandey at all cost. Another belting episode chaps 👏 and get the ball rolling on that film 🙏
Yep, with you Chris Cooper E24/E28/E30 dashboard - a thing of beauty
Best Bond car chase is Matt Damon's Bourne Identity. The sequels went a bit too far with theirs, but that Mini vs. Paris was supeb
I've already left my dashboard comment, but this is becoming my favourite podcast. Please don't change the format.
The enjoyment these bring is unmatched by any other podcast
You are so right. These podcasts are a ray of sunshine in my day. ⛅️
Dashboards.
In the '50's Dad bought a new Vauxhall Velox PA with a horizontal strip speedo that read ; 0-30 green, 30 -60 orange and 60+ red..
I loved it at the time.
God, you have got the recipe bang-on with this eagerly anticipated Friday epic guys!
All credit to you (cant wait for next Friday).
Our pleasure!
Just paused you and watched C’était un rendez-vous.... Bloody hell. Oh and Manish, your description of the Spy Who Loved Me car chase brought a tear to my eye. Thank you.
Isn’t it lovely when all of us around 55 can appreciate these films and not mock and change them. The music that compliments the car, copter chase is of its time. Good stuff. 👍
Thank you all for sharing this with us. It is pure joy hearing your different perspectives and nerdy detailed stories. Manish, you're still my hero but Chris C has some cracking stories!
Opening sequence of Quantum Solace is up there for the build up, anticipation, flying across the lake and the strings play louder... and then the Aston V12 roars into life! Goosebumps!
Chris, I really enjoy these videos. You chaps have so much fun and the degree of minutia is incredible/eyewatering/eyerolling/scary/nerdy/certifiable (delete as appropriate). I feel that with even no views you would continue your chats, but not necessarily post them to CZcams. Please continue. I'm more into 70's nostalgia than '80's/90's (my age), but I get your drift - not the rear end nor four wheel variety. As you might guess the topics are irrelevant, it is the chat, banter and knowledge. Well done.
Glad you enjoy it!
The Renault 5 Turbo 2 car chase was one of the best car chases ! In Never say Never again!
Glad QoS got a mention, I love that opening sequence around the lake and in to Sienna.
Thank you for this great podcast from Germany ❤
Thanks for listening
Loved this.
The 2CV chase from For Your Eyes Only is got to be up there. Great fun.
Hilarious Chobham Crash story! 😂
I pour myself a glass of wine and love listening to five nice fellas geeking out over cars, it's refreshing. Great content guys!
I remember going to a private preview of The Spy who loved me in Norwich - as a guest of Lotus (several friends were employed by Lotus).
They had one of the Films Espirit's on display in the Foyer.
Everyone was enraptured by the film - epic!
This has quickly become my favourite podcast, superb selection of fellow car nuts!
Brilliant as always. Learnt a bit more about the Bond Films chase scenes so thanks gents. Makes a Friday that much more enjoyable. 👍👍
Thank you so much!!! You make my day!!!
The best 1hr10mins of the week love these chats. If it was 3hrs long id still watch it all.
I love these, such an enjoyable group
Gents, i absolutely love these! I spend a lot of my spare time creating digital artworks of cars and the best time is any evening listening to these while I scribble away! 👍👍
Just wonderful chat with fellow enthusiasts who have encyclopedic knowledge and pure joy in sharing and comparing. Thanks lads for making my Fridays .
Manish is a legendary racconteur.
I absolutely love these. Wishing Freddie all the best after the top gear cancellation, however Chris could easily hold down a show on his own!!
That's for sure....the previous trio were getting on my nerves with their interminable 'jolly japes'....this current line-up is worse. I don't know how Chris keeps smiling, they would drive me mad....that and I cant understand half of what they are saying. I just watch Chris's contribution to the show and switch the sound off for the rest whilst watching Harry etc. !
"You can all fuck off" was my personal highlight. Thanks Chris
I just discovered this podcast and find it quite brilliant!
Honestly love this.. it’s the highlight of the week!
Outstanding effort. Enjoy these very much
Excellent - one of the best things on CZcams and can't wait until the next one!
Love this podcast, great work guys. now I’m watching “The Spy who loved me” 👍👍
Fabulously entertaining. Thank you
Always look forward to these.
I think you guys have outdone yourself with this one. Cracking podcast.
The Bond helicopter story reminds me of the time I worked at Heli Leeds back in 76-77. I used to stick the Barratt Homes oak tree and name on the Jet Rangers (G-BBFE and G-AYMX) used to film the Patrick Allen TV commercials. I also bolted in the SamCine mount. Mr Allen gave me a lift to the bus stop in his Rolls Corniche Convertible. #goodolddays
NICE VAUXHALL DASH! I had a Mk3 Vauxhall Astra and I loved the dash in that. The mk2 and mk4 were blocky slabs but the more 3 was curvy, round and the centre was curved towards the driver.
I remember seeing the car chase with the Lotus Esprit as a kid in the 70s and was spellbound, so much so I always wanted that car and finally got to live my dream in the 90s when I had some spare cash to buy one. I just need a white Ferrari Testarossa now, to relive my 80s Miami Vice memories !
Bravo fellas! Great stuff every week - proper chaps chat!
Much appreciated!
You’ve struck gold here dear chaps. Pls carry on 😉
I love this podcast. Such a straightforward concept with a group of true car nerds
So, I'm driving to a meeting today listening to the best car podcast there is. The topic is best car chases on film and I find myself, yet again, shouting at the dash as to what the the real answer is. Neil Clifford, when you said Rendezvous I genuinely left a punch mark in the roof lining of my Abarth. you are the man. This podcast deserves an award. #bestinbreed
SNOW PATROL open your eyes!!
C'était un rendez-vous , i adored the video and the track over the top of it 👌👌👌 , fantastic piece of film !!!
I will look for the original
The best Vauxhall dashboard was the 2.2 VX220 - proper Stack dials with properly noisy stepper motors. Simple heater controls ‘not cold enough’ all the way to ‘not hot enough’ and a few push buttons for lights.
Chris, you're just amazing. I wanted you on original the previous Top Gear with the other three.
Wow! Mannish drops a casual "C bomb" and Chris drops the "G bomb", I thought he was looking a little more chipper these days, nice to see.
P.S. As you mentioned Rendezvous, might I suggest "Open your eyes" by Snow Patrol as a great driving song....many a late night run on the A433 from Westonbirt to Burford listening to that.
Best podcast out there. 💪
Love that F1 chat is always on here
These are excellent
Future segment: your ideal 2 car/truck garage after moving to America
Edit- Let’s say: you move to Austin Texas, the land of hip restaurants, big trucks, and Circuit of the Americas. You have a 3 acre property with a Texas farmhouse and live a short drive from COTA. What’s your Texas 2 car garage?
Good idea!
I agree about the Bentley Turbo, fantastic car. The oil level button is in my 1949 Silver Wraith, I push it before I start the car just to see if the gauge changes, even though I've already checked the dipstick...
Enjoyed the Forester/ Legacy chat in the 2 car garage. We are a household of a dog spec UK Forester and an Import Legacy GT they are both brilliant. 😁
I feel like this is my weekly AA meeting haha automotives anonymous 😂 and I love it. Thoroughly entertaining chatter. The segue from Bond car chases to favourite dashboards 😂👌
Love listening to you guys chat. Would love a cameo from your dog Chris! My Bully is at my feet right now. Maybe a "Whats the best dog car you've owned?" episode
Mint stuff guys.
Excelling yourselves every episode, long may it continue. Not strictly a car chase but the opening sequence of Taxi 2, the Luc Besson directed films, on a WRC French rally stage with Jean-Louis Schlesser driving a works Peugot flat out, being chased down by a Peugot 406 Taxi, the driving, the narrative and then the Taxi flashing its lights to the rally car to get out of the way, comedy car chase gold.
I try to limit watching it to once every couple of years so as not to burn out the sweat inducing adrenaline shot you get from watching it. That and the first couple of minutes of QofS, on a decent home theatre setup, works better than a sauna 😂
What a set of films, Luc Besson is an absolute genius.
what a show!
Great podcast again guys. Ruis da Silva is one of the sexiest dance songs ever!
Listening to the boys gawk about the dashboard and OBC of an E28 while driving my own, was surreal. Running through the emotions of getting behind the wheel of one the first time. Did you know you can change what the screen says on the computer by pressing in the turn signal stalk, so you don't have to take your hands off the wheel!
As a former Griffith owner I agree with Chris; a glorious car for a mountain road cruise. Breathed on they also handle really rather well.
Classic dance track Chris - by Rui Da Silva!!
not a car chase but the scooter follow cam at the beginning of the Original French "Taxi" movie - not the rubbish remake - just an awesome recreation of every food delivery drivers Friday/Saturday night.
😂
Neil was bang on with regards to the e30 clock! Although it came in more models than just the 318is!
Good on ya Neil ! 🇯🇵
A kind request to the producers of the podcast,
It would have been great with the dashboard pictures, when the gentleman are discussing.
Thanks
These are mega!!
Proof this is one of the best car podcasts out there 26:02
I loved the Corsa A GT & GSi dashboard
Best dashboard for me (with a bond link) Toyota 2000GT with its Yamaha designed piano gloss wood dash! Or, more down to earth an early 90’s Saab with it’s EXTRA button
If anyone wants to need out on Bond cars, I'd highly recommend Jason Barlow's book. It covers the stars the cameos and even just background spots. It's superb
My mate's ASTRA GTE Digital dash had me jealous.. it was like K.I.T.T.........kicked his ass in my fiesta rs turbo thou ; )
16:45 also neil absolutely agree with you. 10 years ago, the charismatic alex roy introduced me to the chase by the way of his video on the /DRIVE channel, which, if iirc, chris harris also worked for. What a great chase. Also, claude lelouch later gave an interview on the chase and when he told that it was a 6.9 and not a 275 doing the driving, I was so disappointed.
Just letting you know that Rendezvous has been remade in 2022 in wartime Kyiv by a Ukrainian director Nadia Parfan, where she drives from some shabby garage into the historic center of the city. It's called "It's a date". Just search "it's a date short film".
Great episode. I didn't realise Chris used to have a Weimaraner. We've got 3. Lovely dogs
Safrane biturbo dash. Design, buttons, displays. 😃
you seem like a kind person
AM - Vantage etc with the haptic "waterfall" I just think looks lovely, old school and fresh / modern enough to hold up. Plus any dashboard which has a fold away / hidden satnav to me is up there. The infotainment always ages the dash horribly. The new Conti GT & Rollers with the folding info too great dashboards. Agree about the Spyker and anything with toggles or machines levers haha
Vauxhall Viva dash brings back fond memories. The horizontal needle speedo was a seventies classic. If only the needle moved a little faster than it did. It was torture trying to get that needle to move leftwards. Never drove a Magnum so not sure if that had the same speedo or not.
I felt very personal when you talked about BMW OBC vs just the clock. I have had 15 years Clownshoe, and I only have the clock. However , I also have the OBC, have had for years but have not installed it, since it needs temperature sensor installed, and OBC to be coded into ecu. I just cant bother, and the clock is perfectly simple. It has 2 buttons. Hour and minute button. After winter hibernation, nothing is easier than clicking right time on to that thing. You push hour button, it adds hour, you push minute button, it adds minute.
Ps. There is remake of rendevoux, by swedish Ghostrider in his bike, and about 300kmh average speed. Well worth watching, like all Ghostrider films.
For a great road song, listen to the Little Village album and the song is Don’t Think About Her When You’re Trying to Drive. Actually the whole album is a gem; you’ll recognize the artists and probably enjoy the song Solar Sex Panel, too. By the way, I’m in the US. Don’t know if that matters, really, but wanted to mention it because the other comments seem to be from your side of the Atlantic. Anyway, wonderful stuff. Thanks
The Ronin car chase surely has to be top of the list??
I Love each aNd every one of these podcasts, the humour, the shear geek level. Fucking Brilliant! Bravo that man.
Btw; Rui Da Silva - Touch Me is awesome!
on great car chases, may i suggest the opening chase in Edgar Wright's Baby Driver?
The Opel Omega 3000 24V (GSI 24V Carlton) digital dash was amazing at the time (or at least for me as a young kid).
My brother had a C reg Monza with same digital dash, both myself and brother had 16V Astra GTE's that was adsatly the same but slightly smaller and my wife had a Nova Sri with the same digital dash binacle.
I am always looking forward to this. But gutted to hear about top gear but I hope freddy is recovering well 🙏
Di you know that there were some secret functions on the E30 on board computer? By pressing two of the buttons together you could get read-outs such as the litres of fuel left in the tank right down to 0.1l, so you could play fuel-pump chicken way beyond the point when the range dropped to ---.
Car chase in Ronin is epic! Peugeot 406 chasing a BMW E34, engine noises, lack of grip and a touch of reality!
12:27
Skyfall came out when I was 12.
Checks out
On dashboards..60’s series one xj6, 70,s Jensen interceptor mk3. 80’s bmw 850/840… on the vauxhall question, my first car was a ventora fd great homage to dodge muscle car dash.
Vauxhall dash? Technically a Holden, but the VE Commodore SS-V with orange seats and dash, pretty special
Tvr cerbera for favorite dashboard
What about “Reverse DRS”? Used to get within a second, and then the overtaking then relies on skill.
Or DRS once per lap (3 zones) like what Manish said.
I was listening to this in the car and every time Manish said it was a real stuntman and not CGI, I shouted "YES." For me CGI has ruined Bond films, nobody ever looks at a stunt and is amazed at the sight of something done by another human. I recall Roger Moore saying he cried when he watched the corkscrew jump in Man with the Golden Gun; he was so taken aback that another human was risking their life to make him look good.
Another great episode!
But if you live in the alps, shouldn't you have an SUV?
I daydream about living in the swedish mountains, but realize that my sport car hobbies would be pretty limited given the snow and winter would limit their usage.
The best dash for me would be the mk4 Supra. Even in a non turbo hardtop automatic, It's perfect.
❤️😁👍
