    Yes!!!!! I teach my students about this every year and everyone needs to know about this. Not only this, France only relieved the debt a few years ago and this is why Haiti remains one of the poorest countries in the world. France’s actions were and are shameful. THEY need to be paying HAITI reparations in today’s valuation to begin to restore what they stole. Thank you for bringing exposure to this.

      My guy they wasn’t Dominicans at the time, they also used Haitians as well who fought for the freedom. It’s why the leaders were terminated by the Haitian people. Haiti enslaved everyone in the island to pay off the European debt, Dominicana did not fight for their freedom from Spain, Haitians freed the entire island. It wasn’t until after that the people on the east decided to separate because Haitians started to do the same thing the Europeans were doing. Which I do not blame the Dominicans at all for going their own way.

    • @rafm3068
      @rafm3068 Před 18 dny

      @gboarhtur3402 Dominicans existed on the island before the French brought the Haitians similar to Puerto Ricans and Cubans.
      The majority of Dominicans were not.slaves and the Dominicans were already independent in 1821 before Haiti annexed the nation in 1822. The Dominican Republic then removed Haiti in 1844 and then the Haitians invaded and lost in the wars against the Domimican Republic.
      I support the Haitian independence but some of these Afrocentric teachers in the US purposefully omit large parts of history to suit their narratives. Haiti also did wrong and had internal issues something a lot of these activists avoid talking about.

Most of Europe is still benefitting from their colonial exploits whilst the countries they stole from aren't. Any time you mentioned reparations, they say oh it's too difficult and you can't expect the every day British person to pay for something their ancestors did. Thank you for talking about this injustice. make a part 2 about how this liberation paved the way for independence for so many Caribbean nations and France and all colonialists are racist robbers!

      Haiti got $6 billion after the quakes.
      Clinton Foundation stole half of it.
      Haitian thug leaders stole the rest.
      Google: Haiti's genocide against ALL whites and mulattos (not just the French) under Dessalines. Any useful whites to help the country rebuild were killed and foreign investors were scared off.
      Also, google: The racist expulsion by Haiti of Syrians and Middle Easterners in the 20th century when they started to succeed economically (and the locals got jealous).

    Read The Black Jacobins by CLR James. You can find a free pdf online.
    Haiti has also been the victim of invasion, military occupation, and regime change throughout its history. Just recently, mass protests prevented a "helpful" military occupation by the US.
    Instead, police are being sent from Kenya to help prop up Haiti's unpopular, corrupt, unelected govt. This seems like a good thing superficially (They have the same skin color right? That's all that matters right?), but Kenya's govt is quite deferential to Western colonialism and has been recently cracking down on its own people's protests against the IMF (which, if you haven't heard of it, is essentially payday lending but for countries.) So in all likelihood they will more or less do the USA's bidding in suppressing Haiti's people. I hope I turn out to be wrong.

    As a haitian let me tell you something. Many haitians would rather die than go back to slavery. We were willing to give anything to keep our freedom. To this day we are paying for this Roberry. Justice for Haiti

    Thanks so much for sharing this story, it's very important. Too many Black states around the world have suffered from this kind of financial decapitation and very few people know it. Nor do they understand the real economic impact of such a huge financial drain for so long. On top of this there were ancillary insults like having to pay France to print all their currency, and only France could do it by law. Of course they did it at a premium. It's quite tantamount to African American sharecroppers in The South after Reconstruction. No matter how much they made, they always owed more. A special kind of evil.
    I think what's particularly poignant, that no one brings up, is how poor France would be today without that money. They tout themselves as part of the first world, part of the G-7, but they can only hold that place by their thuggery against defenseless third world countries like Haiti. I wonder what France would look like today if Haiti had just said, "No!" ?
    Thanks again for sharing this.
