    Oakleigh is a _very_ Greek area where even the signs are in Greek sometimes, but I grew up and went to school in SE Melb so I've just known lots of people with Greek families or that have married into them or just from everywhere really.
    They're fun people

      We are Hellenics and we belong to European Community, and to Europe. The little "Greece" is not Hellas. This suburb and general the city of Melbourne are nice but something totally different from Hellas and Europe. We wish and we have to come more close to the other European countries because that's our state. And the people from other countries, like Australia, U.S.A. are totally different. If they want to be Hellenics they have to come closer to Hellas and Europe. And they have to learn about real Hellenic's culture, real Hellenic's modern music, modern theater e.t.c. Does anyone outside of European state knows that Athens is the third city at Europe in modern culture with a lots of awards ? Totally NOT! Fortunately Hellas are not like Melbourne and Hellenics are not like Australian. Modern Hellas and Hellenics are European.

    They are not Hellenics, they are Australiangreeks. Even the music are outdated. Τhe real Hellenic modern music is totally defferent with a lots of european awards. Different cutlure recognized throughout Europe. Even they dont have real souvlaki and real frappe (xaxa). Sorry but they are different people, even we have almoste same blood and almost same language. Not exaclty both. Fortunately, in recent years, Greeks have come to Australia and renew the old-fashioned condition of Australians living in the same mentality as in 1950-60 Greece.

      @TheHuski  Před 4 lety +3

      To a point you are right. Greeks that moved here have the best of both worlds Australia and Greece. We must not forget there are new Greeks coming to Australia every year. They as you say are pure Greeks. Obviously someone who has lived here for a long time is a mixture of both. Then we have those who travel back and forth to Greece every year or two. As an example my father has property in Greece and travels and lives in Greece every 1-2 years. Thanks for Watching :)
