      The pricing too is copiously optimistic. Page played this guitar on two or three occations, in a very low key setting sitting in with a local band in a local bar, just for fun. And for that, it now supposedly rises in value from 10- 15 thousand dollars to 75 to 100... That's mad(!). But there are even madder attemts out there...
      A while ago, there was a vendor on Gbase who had a late eighties US reissue Strat; not custom shop or anything fancy, just a regular production US reissue; that had been lent to Stevie Ray Vaughan for one gig because there'd been some problems getting his guitars to said gig, or whatever it was... Anywhay... A guitar like that, in very good condition, will sell for somewhere between two and two and a half thousand dollars. Maybe a up to a grand more if it's a limited edition colour (which this one was. It was blonde and had gold plated hardware). They were asking 100 000 for it.
      Like Christian Rose below, I think this one will be an impossible sell.

    You are so wrong.
    1 - Pages first guitar in the zeppelin years was the tele, he recorded with it all throughout their career as a band. The LPs too but they were mainly live guitars. 2nd, 3rd, 4th guitars were LP 59 burst, Custom black beauty 3 pick ups, cherry LP. 5TH guitar was the Martin D##, 6th was definitely the Danelectro (it's all over the albums and live from 1970 up until presence album, even live in 1980!)
    2 - Page was 90% pentatonic until Zeppelin 2, whole lotta love, heart breaker, black dog, are Dorian pentatonic mixed with major blues, sometimes pure Dorian.
    I've gone through all his work and studied it, is pentatonic Dorian with a few exceptions when he is in minor keys (Achilles Last Stand, Since I've been loving you).
    In some sense his music was more major than minor as he clearly loved the 4 chord as a major in minor and blues keys.
    He was not a 'pentatonic guy' after zeppelin 1.

    I was trying out a rack digital reverb at Wurlitzer Music in Boston (it's gone now) 30 years ago with my homemade guitar (inspired by the whole EVH "do-it-yourself" mentality). Matt "Guitar" Murphy approached me and said, "Man, what kinda guitar is that!?".....We traded some licks on it, along with salesman Dave Waters, what a fun time! I had Mike Stern sign the back of it at the Litchfield Jazzfest. --still my main axe to this day, with all the money I've spent on other guitars...Oh well.

    I wonder if this is the one what shows in "In The Evening" where he divebombs at 3:42 and the springs get all jacked up.

    Did Jimmy like it in drop tuning or do you think the guy who has that guitar prefers it that way?

    Its a early 71 transitional, even without the Jimmy Page connection its a very rare guitar. By mid year 1971 CBS Fender transitioned to their Micro tilt neck bullet truss rod models.

    Tyler, wonderful presentation as always. I know it is guitar heresy but I much prefer those pickups to the standard Fender singles. How do you make a single sound that creamy? Especially in the top strings. It just sounds awesome. And I am sure your playing helped it out! Mojo + Skill + Study = Magic! Thanks for all you do for guitar lovers!!!

    If you haven’t already you should make a playlist of songs that all beginner guitar guitarist should learn to help them learn and become confident in how they play guitar

    Awesome guitar. is that really olympic white? must of been in the smokiest of smokey bars to get that tint. and why the truss rod adjustment at the headstock and the heel?

    Dead serious when I say this. I don't think there is another musician who has played more iconic guitars from legendary musicians across so many genres of rock.

    I own an original Floyd Rose guitar that has pickups in it that were out there by said Jimmy Page. And yes I play it often. Great vid.

    I don’t think an average early 70s Strat is worth USD 15 grand, even if it’s in Yngwie yellow
    Probably closer to half that or less for an amazing example. These are ‘almost vintage’ because not even early CBS…

    • @jr13227
      @jr13227 Před 2 lety +2

      Not to mention those aren’t original pickups (are they?)

    • @j_freed
      @j_freed Před 2 lety

      @@jr13227 - yes, an amazing example would have to be pretty clean.
      I think 70s guitars are quite overvalued, and people overpaying for all manner of things will get old at some point.

      For real. They are listed on reverb right now for half…which is still over priced. I’d rather just buy a custom shop for half of that.
