This very totally enlighting stuff from extraordinary musician . Thank you Guitar Center and Paul Gilbert 👏🙏
he's right about the modern rock thing, people wanna keep it simple these days
too simple it's agony
he's nothing but righteous!
a genius indeed!
Very intersting Paul is a genius unkwown
Does Paul know how to play every riff every written...and every riff to ever be written? damn
'there's some great tunes like that, but too many of them, i think'
YES.
What he said about modern rock is soooooo true
thanks
Paul Gilbert is not only a great player, but a great teacher. His Hot Licks & instructional videos have the greatest educational value for guitarists.
Like it how he does the guitar impression even though he is holding one :D Gotta love paul
It is indeed, and yes you are correct, its just the first song that sprung to mind as it literally was the same
For someone who naturally doesn't have much songwriting ability, being methodical is a good way to go. Very typically I get started from one or two chords, usually thinking modal, and then I'll harmonize the scale. After that it's wide open. But you definitely gotta be careful, too much theory, gadgets etc can be distracting. Just feel it out, your intuition can serve you well when writing!
@lloydster9000 right?! such an awesome song. friggin human jukebox
@Danje1 i see... now i totally understand why... thanks
Jimi Hendrix was the definition. His imagination and dreams = his song writing.
i don't even think paul was talking bad about green day, i think hes just saying people need to change it up, but i'm with you on this.
And by 4-chord song I'm referring to the progression dubbed so by The Axis of Awesome, it's an easier term than spelling it out in theory language.
I believe I am about tired of hearing, "I say the same thing twice, I'm awkward when I speak." Every time I click a damned video.
whats the name of that betovens song sorry if i miss spelled ?
the best way to play music is to play with your heart and feel it!!!!! BUT FUSION JAZZ is still the best eheheh cheers paul
You mean Bad Indie Rock ,I agree
What about for fast metal, beats are that fast they’re impossible to figure with 16th notes and a fast bpm?
anyone know the name of the song at 2:39 ?
3.01-3.09 Still Waiting by Sum 41
It's a regular 4-chord song in 8's, there are hundreds if not thousands of songs on the radio doing that. So I'm pretty sure he wasn't referring to a particular song, as his argument is that there are too many songs that sound that way.
What's weird is when I write songs, they almost always start on the and of 4, rather than on 1.
@Halocon hair loss doesn't affect your guitar playing or songwriting sir ;D
at 3:00 he played all of pennywise´s discography ever
3:00 - every blink 182 song ever written
Is he talking to the amps?
What's the name of that Deep Purple song???
@GuitaristBoi9 and a thousand other songs
anyone know the name of the led zeppelin song he played?
he just said what i mean ;-)
the best advices never makes that much views......
@Danje1 do you know why? mmm... just like petrucci from ibanez to earnieball... but i think laney suits more for paul gilbert
@Benjamin Sweeney lol was bout to say the same
@GuitaristBoi9
Theres about 135184791284760197601740671927861987801898666 songs with that ECXACT riff lol
And he busts out the riff of "The Rover" by Led Zeppelin.... Paul is the MAN
@ibanez250 The Rover
@Jamsessionroom1337 Thing is tho: Doesn't make him wrong. You can either be a musician,or make money
did paul gilbert left laney and changed to marshalls?
2:20 - 2:30 You're welcome
He should play with Benny Greb
Man… Paul looks ghastly. Someone feed him a burrito or something.
2:55 who the hell is he talking to?
Beethoven's 5th starts on the 4, doesn't it?
@Kimmocheck hahaha yea yea
5ht symphonie
The Rover. Led Zeppelin if you forgot what you asked so you don't have to come back to the video.
For a big Pixies fan like me that's a little hard to hear. There is something to be said for the down down down down down down down thing.
Beethoven's Fifth starts on the four
I think the LSD helped Paul Mccartney haha
@ermonski Not thin, I'm talking about his face is white as a ghost and he likes like he's high.. I know he's been thin that doesn't have to do with being up for 4 days : |
Angus Young to Beethoven in the same scentence....
When he was like "I found this new chord." I'd like to thank the person holding the camera for NOT showing us what he was talking about. You might as well be filming the floor.
He wasn't saying HE actually found a chord, he was making an example.
2:20 - 2:30 haha
@GregoryJohnsonJr and no riffing, or solos
yeah paul is right!!!! i dont like the sound of the rock bands nowadays it sound so different than the old days!!!
oh god the pit stains
try speaking the truth
lol hes talking about the offspring :P
/watch?v=VrZ4sMRYimw
@taxxxman11111111 Maybe i'm a leo
are you talking about greenday......jk..haha
Ask any producer and he'll probably say the key is to get a pretty face to sing a song with a generic sound and simple lyrics about how they just borke up, or had a "good time", or about sex, or about some party, or any other meanigless thing. Or the baddass look either rock or rap, where the "badass" rock stars wear black and play the same chord progression, and the rappers are thugs from compton who do drugs and have sex wih all the hoes and wear rediculous "bling"
intelligent? check your notation '/' vs '\'
and about half the pop and punk songs ever recorded. lol.
@TreyArmstrong01 FOR THE LAST FUCKING TIME... GREENDAY ARE NOT A FUCKING PUNK BAND!
....4-4-4-3.. Many songs that you could say were 15\8 if you wanted to sound more inteligent than you really are
@TreyArmstrong01 tre cool is a don, go away
@SilentAce86 actually what he says about modern rock is extremely ignorant and generalized.
not necessarly all songs need to have a solo
Why does he looked he's been up for 4 days and had nothing but coke.. lol
Theres no 'formula', it all depends on what style of music you play. Robert Fripp writes songs differently to Taylor Swift just as extreme examples. Singer songwriters often have a melody that they then find the chords that work with it whereas metal bands use riffs as the starting point and most rock bands work up songs by jamming and keeping the parts that they like.
2:21 to 2:31 i think he's probably referring to Stereophonics - Dakota, but just didnt want to say and criticize them, but yeah its a shit song :L
modern rock = gay
If you've got nothing to say forget it. If you are dumb and uniformed you will write dumb, uninformed songs. No one "writes songs". if they don't write themselves you are, and never will be, a songwriter. No effort or learning will help. If you ain't got it, you will never have it.
