As I say I'm no mechanic with no training so this is just what I have learnt!
Correct me if i'm wrong this is a learning experience for me too!
NOTE!!!
I know its not the RPM pick up, Its the Trigger coil, That the CDI uses to tell when to tell the ignition coil to fire the spark plug....I think lol!

Hey Spicy I’m currently rebuilding the same engine as my con rod snapped I have all the replacement parts and currently cleaning all the parts as I’ve completely dismantled it, any advice for when I put it back together?
I'm a mechanic and I must say, that was class! Top lad. I know all this but I really enjoyed watching. 👍
Thank you! :-)
The lost Yorkshire man is appreciative of a good student! :)
Lol liked in the first 11 seconds because I realized he was going to do this video with his helmet on at a bench!
Hero material!
wonderful explanation without confusing technical terms those which ordinary people hates. you done a great job mate. thanks for your time and effort.
Thank you!
Watching this video really makes me think how far we as humans have advanced in the last couple centuries. How we as a race have managed to design and create a complex machine such as an engine blows my mind.
Very well summarized for a beginner to understand. Cheeky and witty too so we don't fall asleep. Well done.
"safety first" always wear a helmet to work on an engine rofl
Lmaaooo
I've watched this like 10 times easily the best guide I've seen on youtube
One of the best interesting parts of it is you open up everything part of the engine and I understand it fully.
Got to say you explained that really well. Did not know how simple an engine and its surrounding components really are. Of course they are an engineering feat in themselves but now I am gona get an old motorcycle and take it apart to have some fun. Thanks for your effort that you put into this video.
That's what I want; an old engine to take apart and learn with. Great explanations. You're a natural!
I was looking on the internet a way to start looking into motorcycle engines and this video taught me exactly what i needed to start. THANKS!
seriously, Im going to start MMI soon and this helped me ALOT. especially abput the valves and clutch assembly, thank you so much for the time you put into this. Cheers!
I’ve been watching quite a few videos trying to understand engines because they interest me a ton, and this helped me out a bunch. My family is really into cars and motorcycles and I needed to learn! Thank you 🙏
Glad it helped you! 🙂👍
As we were watching this I was **trying* to explain about how an Engine actually works, she loved it, a bit confused but she got the gist :-)
I went through the points you showed, paused to explain and moved on!
Big Thumbs mate!!
considering you are self taught like myself about engines and mechanics this video helped me fully understand engines! keep up the good work!
glad it helped thank you!
spicy110 "suck, squeeze, bang, blow". remeber this with your Chinese motorcycle youll have it in bits more than you have it on the road mate lol also your head residue looks choclatey , its fine , sooty and stuff is a problem , colour of the mixture on the plug and head and depostits can tell you a LOT :) sounds like aminor problem but it can cause melted plugs , overheating and even warp the head if the mix is wrong and you keep on riding hot , depends witch way its leaning , rich or lean
Nice video! Surprisingly helpful. I've known the principles for a long time but it's nice to have someone with the thing in peices literally going through it all peice by peice.
I've watched so many videos (contemplating buying a rebuild bike) and this has been the first real one that his made me truly understand appreciate the time you took to make this thanks.
+james paul miller glad it helped! :-)
Very helpful video, thank you! Even though I understood the basics, seeing all the components broken out like this has given me a great head start. Much appreciated!
I have to say I really did enjoy this video. It may not been super technical but it was fun to hear you explain how a engine works. Great work my hat off to you sir.
i know about engines a lot (car engine) but never seen a bike engine taken apart it looks so easy the same as a cer engine the basics are the same. You did a very good job keep up the good work :)
Thanks mate that helped a lot. I'm going to be picking up a WR450f and converting it too a sumo, and really wanted to understand exactly how an engine works. Still going to do some more research but you've given me a good base idea. I want to pick up and old bike engine and dissemble it and get hands on to fully get my head around it. Cheers!
nice! I will soon begin to learn motorcycle mechanics and hopefully become a mechanic and designer. Your videos teach a lot about how motorcycles work. I don't know anything about mechanics, honestly,(I'm a design student) but with these videos I'll have a better understanding of everything for when I begin sort of "studying" mechanics. Thank you, greetings from Mexico(soon Canada).
awesome explanation. Totaly loved the oil plump thing.
Good stuff man. I'm looking into getting my first motorcycle n' just wanted to see how hard it'd be to repair, and I've gotta say, this video has eased my mind a lot.
im educating myself before i get a motorcycle
me too.
Did you get your bike? If so what did you get?
Dude same I'm buying a mini chopper to start with found a good little one
Need some tools? This is a good looking little set! amzn.to/2mwFD1m
Thanks man u did a great job explaining about this engine, I recently got an engine like this one have to do some service work on it,and hadn't for this video would of never know if and how to find the oil filter, thanks again
Bit of a lurker, but long time vlogger follower; just wanted to say thanks for this, needed the visualisation of the engine's process. Appreciate your having made and uploaded this mate!
No worries glad it helped!
Excellent. Awesome to see how all the pieces can fit together. Just like a work of art (heart). Really informative and seems like you have a real knowledge of bikes.
My first bike after passing my test was an RD400. Blew it up, (obviously), knowing absolutely nothing, just armed with a Haynes manual and decent tool kit, stripped it down on my bedroom floor. Learned so much about how an engine works and goes together. If you can (ignore the complaints of your mum/girlfriend/wife) lay a sheet down and in a clean dry enviroment, even a large, "complicated" engine is manageable. Just be methodical and these days, take digital photos of each stage. There's no great mystery. (plus, if you're a bit of a nerd, its a better passtime than train spotting)
Just learned alot more about engines... Thank you!
great video, had no idea how engines work, this and a couple of more videos, now i know the basics..
Great video man! I'm going to school for motorcycle mechanics atm you did a great job on explaining the basics of how everything works props to you for wanting to learn it :D, never stop learning and ride safe!
Just got a zzr250 and watching this was very helpful in understanding whats what. Add some some humor and it made for a great 101 lesson. cheers mate.
+TheBaldMan28 glad it helped 😀
Cheers bud, you tied together a few concepts I understood.
Nicely explained. I'm about to tackle my 125cc engine for valve clearance and chain tensioner. Looks alot less complicated than I imagined.
Your side-comments are hysterical! The constant swearing at the engine definitely gave me a decent chuckle.
This is all about bloody passion and curiosity and no fear...
man thankyou this really helped me, I only had a very basic understanding of bike engines, you have improved this so much, very easy to understand
ride safe!
Im just starting college now abd learning motor vehicle mechanics, and i understand about the four stroke cycle of: induction- compression- power and exhaust and what they mean, but i still need to revise a lot of stuff, great video Spicy, it has helped me as an overview of what i am currently learning from a book :D
Awesome! Thanks! I imagine putting vent plugs in the air box, changing the front sprocket from a 14T to a 13T and installing a complete FMF pipe and exhaust will also increase my performance. So many possibilities out there!
Thanks again!
Hey man, just wanted to know that you've done an ace job of this! You didn't make it sound complicated yet you gave a good explanation of everything. Thanks for the video I am massively greatfull lol!
Cool glad it helped! :-)
Very Informative. Thank you for taking the time to do this!
I already know how this engine and others work lol, but you made it extremely fun to watch lol......great vid buddy
+19882fast4u thanks dude
spicy110 Yeah no problem. Subscribed just because of your cheerful attitude and great voice. And your teaching of simple fundamentals of an engine. lol, Don't pay attention to some of the haters on here, you're doing a great job, keep it up. Hope to see more vids from you. :) By the way thanks for your time on splitting the cases in half, for everyone to see. Some people don't understand the amount of work it takes to make a video like this.
19882fast4u true
Awesome video. Very clear and concise, I learned a lot. Engines kind of felt like black magic, but after seeing this I have a sense of how it all comes together and, as expected, it's a logical and cohesive system and is comprehensible.
Thanks for taking the time, I loved it!
Thank very much dude ... This was a very well done kindred spirit explanation of the insides.... I needed this very much... I can't Thank you enough ... Good job
Fantastic video mate! Basic layman's terms motor/trans mechanics. Awesome video!
Thanks for the video man am about to try and fix up a bike myself and this helped.🙏
Yes you explained that very well for a person that doesn't know anything about engines good on you 👍
I love it. It does pretty well considering I am probably too heavy for it. There are a lot of after market stuff you can get for it.
Awesome little quick how-to spicy!
.
That thing you didn't know the name of that happened to the piston is blow-by, some amount is always expected, especially with forced induction where you have high effective compression ratios and loose fitting rings to deal with the heat, though excessive blow-by is obviously a problem.
.
The other thing in the left cover is the pick-up for the CDI box - ignition timing. Not sure if your bike has TCI or CDI but either way needs reference for spark timing.
Thank you for this vid, i have an old xr80 in my basement as well as a small pw50 that i would like to get working again, with this info i have the foundation to at least take most of it apart!
Love the visual on the clutch, that's a great help. Thank you!
+Robbie Hontelé happy to help
I have basically no mechanic skill (well very little) and this gave me a basic overview of how things work so thanks :)
Sweet demo!
missed this one mate top video all respect to you I get it to that stage now where did that bit come from
Really great, clear and fun explanation!
Thankyou!!!!! Gone from knowing literally nothing to having a decent understanding!! Very helpful
PERFECT explanation, thank you so much. Im going to work as a mechanic"s assistant at a motorcycle garage, and need some base knowledge about how it all works, and this explains a massive amount of what I THINK I need to know, so thanks a bunch, very understandable. :) :)
Its been a year since you posted this comment, and i was curious as to how it was being an assistant at a motorcycle garage? Do you enjoy it? I too wanted to work at a motorcycle mechanic shop. So i was wondering if you could give some insight about it. Thanks in advance.
It’s been 3 years now

Good job, very straight forward. The difference between a car engine and a bike engine is very small, especially the transmission. I think it's mad how thick a bike clutch is though, only ever seen clutches that chunky on very high performance vehicles, is it because a bike clutch is always kind of engaged?
Honestly this is just what I needed. Im a car mechanic if you want to call me that. I build engines and work on cars from my house. I wanted to build a cross kart and I need to use a motorcycle engine that's chain driven but I know nothing about these engines and I was confused if the trans was attached or not to the engine itself. Thanks
I have also done a video on the gearbox it's self if you want a little more info.
Thanks so much for taking it apart for us
Best of luck getting that back together!!
Oh really i was wondering..
i actually thought a engine was a hammer untill you told me that.. thanks for clearing things up. may you live long and prosper
Thanks very much spicy, well done.! I learned the basics there
Great video! Thanks for teaching!
Another Spicy Masterpiece!
Tres bonne, wonderful, excellent video Spicy!
Hilarious and educational! Nice work mate.
Interesting, you explained it pretty well I am more familiar with 2 strokes though, I haven't messed with the valves or cam chain on a 4 stroke
Thank you very much for your input....you just gained a new subscriber on your channel!
Thanks again!
Amazing explanation !!
Nice explanation spicy! Get into that gearbox ;)
that was a great explanation spicy! thanks
Nicely explained!
