Joe has the best graveled screams in all of the history in music. Nobody did it like Joe could.

You should watch his performance (live at Woodstock) of "With a Little Help from My Friends", a Beatles song that Joe can perform even better than the Beatles themselves.

No one could touch Joe Cocker, when it came to expressing raw emotion. I still get chills, when I hear this number. Big time goosebumps. Real music lovers will always miss this English giant of Soul Pop music .... RIP, Joe .... The guitar really soars on the solo. Such an emotional release! I feel like I'm leaving my body! Whew !!!!!!!

The power and the glory of that voice.
You have to see him at Woodstock. Jaw dropping.

It's catchy because it's written by Bryan Adams and Diane Warren. Joe Cocker makes the song what it is, though. That gritty, bluesy voice 🥰

WHY!!! OMG you ever hear the backing vocals on that? Cringe at the highest level. The real back-up singers were stuck in Woodstock traffic. PLEASE don't use this version, any other is fine. It's the ONE JC song live I would NOT react too.

No one could touch him except his idol and major influence Ray Charles. Joe was invited backstage to meet Ray after a concert in 1969. They sang together years later on at least one occasion.

There are so many really, really good vocalists from the era, but Joe Cocker was not only unique and so very different, he was incredible. I have been lucky enough to see him live a number of times and every single time, he blew us all away with his powerful vocals and stage presence.

One of the best concerts! So grateful I had the opportunity to see him, he lived the last couple decades of his life in Colorado ( saw him at Red Rocks) he did some great stuff with Leon Russell who you should also check out. You would like his version of You can leave your hat on, it’s a fun song. So much great music by this man!

Mighty, Mighty Joe The Great. If you do the Woodstock Little Help From My Friends the female background singers couldn’t make it and the guys in the band sang falsetto. Still one of the greatest live performances ever.

Joe Cocker.. growing up in the 70s mostly I truly became a huge fan him since 'Sweet Little Woman' 1981 and then his string of big albums in the 80s and 90s (His 60s 70s stuff is already mentioned a lot in comments). 'Don't You Love Me Anymore' , Highway, Highway 'Can't Find MY Way Home' among too many to name highly recommended in addition to the best known hits.

I wanted to introduce you to Joe so you could hear one of the all-time greats! I agree with the comments below, the Woodstock performance of his Beatles cover of A Little Help From My Friends is a must see for you to truly get the Cocker experience. Cry me a River is another Fire song. Thank you Sal. I'm sorry the first song I requested of Joe (Unchain My Heart) was not able to be uploaded. It is a calmer side of Joe but definitely worthy of a listen. Sal, you are the best!

Nobody could deliver a vocal like Joe, when he did Woodstock in 1969 there is no way that 30-40 years later he would still be able to belt it out. Most guys would have shredded their vocal cords by that time but Joe could still do it. He should be in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame, just a travesty that he is not.

So I'm at work, watching this reaction vid, and near the end when Joe was going off with his gravel/screaming, the look on your face almost made me spit my coffee all over! LOL I have never seen this live version, it's very close to the sound of the studio recording. We are the lucky ones, who grew up with this kind of stuff on the radio constantly. On MTV constantly. Back then, this was background music for me, nothing remarkable because there was just so much good stuff on all the friggin time. You've only begun to scrap away at the tip of the 1980s iceburg, my man. If you keep this up, you've got many more years of hidden gems and lost classics to find, not to mention entire discographies of bands who are no longer around, or some of them have died or retired or lost their voice, etc...I can't tell you how much I envy you all these "first listens".

  • @KevinRCarr
    @KevinRCarr Před 2 měsíci

Great song, great reaction. I highly recommend looking next at a live recording from Berlin from 31st October, 1980. There are two versions from Berlin on CZcams, the one that you want is 3:58 in length. The other version is a later performance, they're both good, the one from 1980 though, is special.

I see that you like this exceptional artist Joe Cocker, you should listen to the last 2 hits before he passes away which are extras "Fire it up" and "I come in peace" but less known to the general public because they are studio recordings, he unfortunately was not able to sing them in public because his illness took over before, for me this gentleman and Tina Turner were my favorite voices and I had the pleasure of seeing them live during my stay in Vienna, Austria in 1996 and 1997

  • @sailinbob11

I'm 64 for context. Been hearing Joe for a long time. Every time I see him he reminds me of 100 men I see standing on a corner with a cup in 1 hand and a sign in the other. No shade... We should really do more for those people. Then Joe starts singing. He almost looks like he has palsy as he, and I don't believe this is affected , looses himself in the music. It's like watching him having an "out of body" experience. Sooo good. Cool... Thanks.

Your first guess on the guitarist was dead on...that was Stevie Ray Vaughn! Yep! Many, many artists lined up to play with Mr. Joe Cocker. Joe was an artists, artist...they respected and enjoyed his music that much. One tip though, stay with the live performance videos instead of studio, these are the best way to enjoy and feel his music. I hope you choose to explore more of him, you will not be disappointed.
